AWESOME POWER !!! US Military M1 Abrams Tank live fire
ArmedForcesUpdate

Published on Aug 17, 2016
Hear the awesome power of the US Military M1 Abrams Tank in Military live fire exercise. NOVO SELO TRAINING AREA, Bulgaria- The crowd grew silent as the tanks rolled in, a collective breath held as everyone in attendance waited for the first rounds to be fired. While many had seen tanks fired before, the multitude held close to their hearts the knowledge that this moment was not just an average day in Bulgaria.

Soldiers with 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, joined their Bulgarian allies as they fired by tank main gun rounds and small arms and crew-served weapons in Bulgaria at Novo Selo Training Area, Bulgaria, June 25.

Transported as part of a tank section from Germany to Bulgaria, the Abrams tank was included amongst equipment contributed by both the American and Bulgarian Armies as part of the live-fire exercise known as Operation Speed and Power during Kabile 15 as part of Atlantic Resolve, designed to increase interoperability amongst the counterparts.

Operation Speed and Power demonstrated U.S. Army Europe's preparedness to deliver strategic effect in Atlantic Resolve by showcasing the freedom of movement to maneuver and fire M1A2 Abrams anywhere along NATO's eastern flank. This ability enables NATO allies to defend themselves against all threats, and shows that the alliance remains ready to defend itself anywhere, at any time.

Witnessing first-hand the impressive capabilities of joining assets amongst allies, included Bulgarian military officials; Rosen Plevneliev, the president of Bulgaria; and the ambassador to the Republic of Bulgaria, Marcie Ries. The dignitaries appreciated the importance of allies joining forces, and contributing assets while training and working night and day as one united front to provide reassurance to the citizens of Bulgaria.

"In an alliance, interoperability is imperative because it's a partnership between allies as they work together," said Ries. "It's important for everyone involved in the alliance to practice and be capable while working as a team."

As Bulgarian T-72 Main Battle Tanks joined alongside the American M1A2 Abrams tanks, shaking the earth as they fired while jets soared overhead, the realistic setting of the live-fire exercise impressed upon the allies the importance of being able to come together as one united force at a moment's notice, able to have equipment quickly transported from one European country to another within days. Not only does the equipment need to be ready within hours, but the soldiers from both forces involved need to be able to fight quickly and competently side-by-side.

"Our ability to put tanks on planes in Germany and move them here within three days and have them ready to fire displays a cohesion and ability for all NATO allies involved to work together quickly," said 1st Lt. Frank M. Wood, Platoon Leader with C Co., 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, and a native of Macon, Ga.

"That freedom of movement strengthens the NATO alliance, and shows our allies that we're here to help them, while letting our adversaries know what we're capable of," said Wood.

As the American soldiers taught their Bulgarian allies the capabilities of the M1A2 Abrams tank that would be firing alongside their own, both sides noticed that the similarities outweighed the differences, allowing for quick learning and better cohesion during the joint training.

"Their tank is lighter than ours, and ours has more stability when firing, but there are far more similarities amongst the two tanks than differences," said Staff Sgt. Luis Aguilar, Charlie Co. Master Gunner, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, and a native of Miami, Fla.

"We were able to ask each other questions and share basic information, allowing each of us to gain familiarity with one another's equipment and capabilities, which resulted in us feeling well prepared and confident during the exercise despite our tanks having just recently arrived in Bulgaria," said Aguilar.

As the smoke cleared and the tanks rumbled into the distance, the crowds began excitedly discussing the flawless execution of the exercise, as the Bulgarian and American Armies worked as one strong team.

"The exercise today was a real demonstration of what we mean when we talk about interoperability because we saw the seamless performance of the Bulgarian and American troops together with their equipment," said Ries. "The Bulgarian people will be able to see what their military is doing, and what both our capabilities are, and gain further reassurance that their allies are here for them at all times."

--------------------------------------------

Tank biathlon is a mechanized military sport developed by the Russian Military with some similarities to the sport of biathlon. It is supposed to utilize the complex training of tank crews including their rough terrain passing skills combined with the ability to provide accurate and rapid fire while performing maneuvers

http://eng.armygames2016.mil.ru/

Partaking tanks drive a three-lap route of 6–10 km. During the first lap, crews fire at targets positioned at distances of 1,800, 1,700 and 1,500 m. In the second lap, different targets imitating an anti-tank mortar (RPG) squad and an infantry unit are fired upon. These targets are at a distance of 600–700 m, and must be engaged with a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun. In the third lap the tank crews targets a target shaped like an anti-tank gun and ATGM unit by use of the turret-mounted heavy machine gun at a distance of 1,200 m. One or more misses leads to an extra penalty lap of 500 m long. On the final lap tanks have to go through various terrain obstacles; an obstacle missed or improperly traversed adds 10 seconds to the crew's final timing.

To me, one of the most interesting vehicles of the second World War. The M26 truck, was a 12-ton 6x6 M26 tractor was powered by a Type 440 240bhp 6-cylinder gasoline engine. This variant featured a Browning .50 cal top-mount heavy MG, along with a fully armored cab, allowing limited crew protection.

NATO & Romanian Tanks & Infantry Fighting Vehicles. Massive NATO Build-Up In Eastern Europe.
Odo Puiu info

Published on Aug 5, 2016
Odo Puiu info invites you to watch ….
U.S. Army & Romanian Tanks & Infantry Fighting Vehicles.

NATO has considerably increased its military presence in the Baltic countries, Poland and Romania and is actively drawing ever new states into its orbit, Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

“In the past year alone NATO has deployed thirteen times more troops, eight times more military aircraft and up to 300 tanks and infantry fighting vehicles to the Baltic states, Poland and Romania,” Shoigu told an annual meeting of top Russian military officials in Moscow.

The 28-nation North Atlantic Alliance is actively facilitating the entry of the former Yugoslav republics, Georgia and Ukraine and is drawing Finland, Sweden and Moldavia into its orbit. It has also set up a cybersecurity center in Estonia and a strategic propaganda center in Latvia.

In the latest such move, NATO military command redeployed around 70 US tanks to Romania. This is certainly not enough for a blitzkrieg, so what is the reason behind it? Maybe this is just a show of support for the fellow member-state Turkey?

“NATO is the only military organization around which aims to contain Russia, whose forced military buildup in the Middle East will be used by NATO as a justification for its own,” defense analyst Vladislav Shurygin.

“It is with this idea in mind that the United States is going to set up a special military grouping in Turkey, and the deployment of US armor in Eastern Europe is part of this plan,” Shurygin added.

Washington plans to send around 12,000 tanks, armored vehicles and artillery pieces to Central and Eastern Europe to move around the region during NATO drills.

Most of these weapons are already on the ground in Germany ready for redeployment to Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Romania.

Obviously, this is saber-rattling. Technically. But at any moment, everything could go wrong. When you start placing a military on the borders of a country you’ve declared an enemy, it doesn’t really take much to set it off.

Russia is also building-up.

The Russian Defense Ministry published a report on its website on the military hardware which has recently entered service with the Russian Armed Forces.

In 2015, the military has undergone serious modernization never seen before in its modern history.

The army received 1,172 new tanks, including the cutting-edge T-14 Armata, 250 aircraft, including two Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers and three Tu-160 strategic bombers.

Six missile regiments equipped with Yars systems were put on combat duty with the Russia Strategic Missile Forces. 95 percent of Russian missile systems have combat operational status.

The naval strategic forces have also bolstered its military capabilities. They received the Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh nuclear-powered submarines.

VW Schwimmwagen - WW2 amphibious car
Historical Aviation Film Unit

Published on Jun 23, 2013
Between 1941 and 1944 over fourteen thousand Volkswagen Type 166 Schwimmwagen cars were built, making it the most massed produced amphibious car in history. Only around 160 of those vehicles have survived.

In the water a screw propeller attached to the rear engine cover could be lowered and this was driven by a direct extension from the engines crankshaft. This meant that the screw only worked in a forward motion, and if the car had to be reversed in the water either a paddle needed to be used, or the four wheel drive could be engaged in reverse allowing the wheel rotation to slowly take the vehicle backwards.

The two front wheels doubled as the rudder so directional control was maintained with the the steering wheel both on land, and in the water.

Capable of both 2 and 4 wheel drive, the Schwimmwagen could reach top speeds of up to 80km/h on land and 10km/h in water.

M-48 Patton Tank, Design, Development and Testing
ChiTownView

Published on Nov 3, 2013
A little bit away from what we usually offer here at ChiTownView but when I came across this film I had to add it to our library. This is a public domain film from the National Archives that I found on archive.org.

In it we trace the development and introduction of the US Army's M-48 Patton tank. Which was a mainstay of the American army's tank corp for decades and is still in use in countries around the world.

National Archives and Records Administration

Big Picture: Birth of a Tank
https://archive.org/details/gov.archi...

Regularly each year, the American public looks forward to the first showings of the new models by the country's automobile manufacturers. Not as often, perhaps, but awaited more eagerly by the Armed Forces is the appearance of a brand new combat vehicle. THE BIG PICTURE tells the inside story, from the idea to the fighting weapons, of the birth of a tank.

Leyland DAF DROPS Demonstration
Paul Donovan

Published on Aug 29, 2016
Demountable Rack Offload and Pickup System (DROPS) vehicles form the logistic backbone of the British Army.

There are two types of vehicle - the Leyland Medium Mobility Load Carrier (MMLC) and the Foden Improved Medium Mobility Load Carrier (IMMLC). DROPS has the ability to tow a long-wheelbase trailer which allows it to carry two loads using one driver.

Both trucks are 8 x 6 load carriers with a 15-tonne flatrack payload, allowing the rapid loading and unloading of flatracks or containers.

IMMLC is used primarily as an ammunition carrier in support of AS90 155mm self-propelled guns. MMLC operates solo, or towing a skeleton trailer.

It is anticipated that the operational DROPS vehicles will be replaced by the Enhanced Pallet Load System (EPLS) which will be based on the 15-tonne SV variant.

Tanks, Trucks and Firepower Show 2016: Interwar Vehicles and Landrovers
UKAirshowTour

Published on Aug 31, 2016
The events in this arena often featured a parade around it by various vehicles of different era's. This interwar section provided plenty of vehicles to display such as Trucks, Landrover's (there were plenty of these around the entire event) and even a Quadbike. The arena will probably have to be a bit bigger next year as it got quite crowded in there. Plenty of iconic ground military vehicles on show. Enjoy!

A Centurion Tank Flattens a Ford Mondeo at the Tanks, Trucks, and Firepower Show in Dunchurch.

Owned by a good friend of mines Dad, it was the tow vehicle used to collect my Mini a few years ago.

Challenger 1 Prototype 94KC37
Tanks and Panzers in Focus

Published on Aug 29, 2016
We got to meet Andrew Baker and have a quick chat with him about his Challenger 1 this weekend at the Tanks Trucks and Firepower show.

Prototype 94KC37 was for many years a outdoor exhibit at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham.

I believe it was sold at auction in 2011 to Andrew and is the only Challenger in private hands.

It has only just had it's power pack installed, he kindly let me climb up and take a few photos.

Later in the day he started her up and she sounded lovely, And this is that video.
