The sister of late fraudster Bernie Madoff and her husband were found dead in Florida in an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said Sunday.
Sondra Wiener, 87, and her spouse Marvin, 90 — whose lives were among those destroyed by Madoff’s $65 billion Ponzi scheme — were discovered dead from gunshot wounds in their home Thursday afternoon in Boynton Beach, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies received a call at 12:55 p.m. about the couple being unresponsive in their residence, authorities said.
“Upon arrival, deputies located an elderly female and male deceased from a gunshot wound,” the sheriff’s office said.
Detectives from the Violent Crimes Division are investigating their deaths as a murder-suicide, authorities confirmed. It wasn’t immediately clear who killed who, but the couple’s kin requested that authorities shield the name of Marvin, citing Marcy’s Law, which allows relatives to protect the names of crime victims.

Wiener and her husband had not been spared by her brother’s financial crimes, with the couple reportedly losing $3 million when his Ponzi scheme came crashing down in 2008.
“She lost millions in this whole thing,” a source told The Post in 2009.
Before Madoff’s crimes came to light, the siblings appeared close. The Wieners had lived near his Palm Beach estate in the BallenIsles Country Club, a gated enclave home to celebrities such as Serena and Venus Williams.

But in 2009, they downsized after selling the house for $575,000, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
Wiener had been among one of five relatives who received packages filled with pricey heirlooms allegedly mailed by Madoff and his wife, Ruth, on Christmas Eve 2008 — just days after the financier’s sons turned him over to authorities for defrauding his clients.
Though the sister did not work for Madoff Securities, her son Charles, 50, toiled there for decades, once serving as the director of administration.

Another of Wiener’s sons, David, confirmed in 2009 that his parents had suffered financially as a result of the Ponzi scheme.
“Yes, my family’s a victim. More so than anybody else. It’s very painful,” he told The Post.
No further details were immediately released about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The deadly incident at the couple’s home was first reported by Boca News Now.

In an e-mail sent to residents in the couple’s Valencia Lakes neighborhood, a community leader confirmed the deaths.
“Let me start off by stating that as many of you have heard, we had a tragic situation on Barca Boulevard regarding the passing of Sondra and Marvin Weiner,” said the e-mail obtained by Boca News Now.“Our thoughts and condolences go out to their family. There is currently an investigation pending. All I can say is at this time there is no security or safety threat to anyone in the community.”
Bernie Madoff, who pleaded guilty in 2009 to running the Ponzi scheme, died in federal lockup in Butner, NC, in April as he was serving a 150-year sentence. He was 82.
His devastating financial crimes have been linked to a number of tragedies.
His elder son, Mark, hanged himself on the second anniversary of the fraudster’s 2008 arrest and left behind a bitter note.
“Bernie, now you know how you have destroyed the lives of your sons by your life of deceit. F–-k you,” wrote Mark, 48.
The convict’s younger son Andrew also blamed their dad for his recurrence of the rare cancer mantle-cell lymphoma, which killed him in 2014. Andrew also was 48 when he died.
“One way to think of this is the scandal and everything that happened killed my brother very quickly. And it’s killing me slowly,” Andrew told People magazine before his death.
Madoff’s ripoff was also tied to the suicides of three investors, including a hedge-fund executive, Charles Murphy, 56, who jumped his death from the luxury Sofitel New York Hotel in 2017 after his firm invested $7 billion with the financier.

If only this were a commonplace occurrence within the fraud-bankster "community"... they might have more incentive to clean up their act rather than cleaning out our accounts...

i don't miss him

He was a big dick head. I recall, even though he was a big lib democRat and Hannity is obviously opposite, he still befriended Beckel and had him over to his house for dinner and parties on occasion. Still, Beckel stabbed Hannity in the back and disrespected him repeatedly on his show. Not the biggest Hannity fan, but still, what a jerk. Good riddance.

According to Hannity, Beckel had a key to his house and was a very dear friend of the family.

I remember when Beckel was giddy during the Trump pussy grab tape. He kept repeating he knew everything and Trump was over.

He was a heavy drinker, maybe he quit but I wouldn’t want to be his liver.

His brother Graham is an awesome actor

You’re right. I had to look him up, but damn, he’s been in a lot of stuff I’ve seen and he really is a great character actor.*

*Thought I should add, this guy was a detective in a movie called ‘Jennifer Eight,’ with Andy Garcia, Lance Henrikson, John Malkovitch and Uma Thurman. Great little movie and Beckel had a very interesting part.

Gary Brooker, lead singer of Procol Harum dies at age 76

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/feb/22/gary-brooker-lead-singer-procol-harum-dies-aged-76

Gary Brooker, the lead singer of the rock band Procol Harum, whose 1967 hit A Whiter Shade of Pale mesmerised baby boomer fans with its psychedelic melancholy, has died at the age of 76.

The pianist, composer and lyricist as well as frontman for the band had been treated for cancer. He died peacefully at home at the weekend.

A statement on Procol Harum’s website described Brooker as “a brightly shining, irreplaceable light in the music industry”.

Awesome organ work. A hammond but not a B3. This was one of the first songs that I remember featuring Hammond sound style. Departing from the cheesy Farfisa or Vox Continental sound that was on the rock of the era (like the doors light my fire)

this was a real advancement in the art

I know Booker was the lead singer a piano man but he didn’t play that iconic part that made the band famous but his vocal fit perfectly over the work.

a damn shame to lose him

A Whiter Shade of Pale was my dad's favorite song. Lost him relatively young and did not know the name of the band but would sometimes remember the songs and wonder what band it was. One day in my early 20s I remembered enough of a lyric to do some searching and find out who the band was and got a couple albums. Since then Procol Harum as been in my rotation.

Brooker was a hell of a performer. Definitely a sad loss.

The Amazing Johnathan, the ‘Freddy Krueger of comedy,’ dead at 63

https://nypost.com/2022/02/23/the-amazing-johnathan-standup-comic-and-magician-dead-at-63/

1645662102132.png

John Edward Szeles, the standup comic and magician who delighted in shocking audiences for decades as “The Amazing Johnathan,” died at his Las Vegas home Tuesday after a long battle with heart disease. The self-described “Freddy Krueger of comedy” was 63.

“Johnathan Szeles (Amazing Johnathan ) has passed away at around 11:30 pm 2/22/22,” fellow standup comic Penny Wiggins, 60, posted on Facebook. “My heart is broken. One of my best friends, one of the funniest humans I’ve ever met. I loved him so very much and will never forget this wonderful, amazing, kind, funny, great person.”

The Detroit native’s widow, sideshow stuntwoman Anastasia Synn, confirmed her husband’s death just before midnight.

“The last thing I said to him was, ‘I love you, honey, I’ll be with you when you get up from your nap,’ ” Synn, 47, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “We were feeding him oranges and strawberries. He was so peaceful. He said, ‘Yay!’ He had the most pure and sweetest look on his face.”

Szeles gained mainstream fame on Vegas headliner Criss Angel’s mid-2000s reality TV show “Mindfreak,” and often injected gonzo, faux-gore bits into his shows. Signature shock value moments included pretending to suck on his own dangling eyeball, slitting his wrists and spiking his own tongue.

The Bally’s casino star attraction and Comedy Central staple — who reportedly earned $3 million a year at his peak — was diagnosed in March 2007 with “a serious heart condition,” the local outlets reported at the time.

“The greatest time of my life was spent here. I made millions of dollars, I have two beautiful houses, and everything came crashing [pause] down,” Szeles announced during a public appearance in 2014. The audience, assuming the dark declaration was another of his pranks, started to laugh — but he stopped them: “Not a joke,” he confirmed, his voice cracking.

His official website later identified the illness as cardiomyopathy, a degenerative disease that weakens the heart muscle.

The “alt-magician” gained further notoriety as the subject of a controversial 2019 Hulu documentary, “The Amazing Johnathan Documentary.” The film followed Szeles, then 60, as he mounted a comeback tour after defying his terminal illness diagnosis — and simultaneously dealing with an ongoing drug addiction.

Earlier on Tuesday, Szeles’ wife of nearly eight years posted that her husband was “completely unresponsive” and reaching the final stage of life after an “absolute nightmare” week.

“His decline was fast, but it also wasn’t. He is so strong,” Synn wrote in an emotional plea for loved ones and acquaintances to stop texting and calling him during his hospice care. “He has beaten the odds for so long. I know you all love him so much and everyone wants to say goodbye.”

Synn continued, “I don’t think we thought this day would ever come because he is so strong and has beaten it so many times. Thank you for all the well wishes, but as the news spreads it’s getting overwhelming and I’m going to have to take a step back. I love you and thank you for your support.”

There is an interesting part in his wikipedia entry as well:

In March 2021, Lanegan was hospitalised with severe COVID-19 and almost died.[100] The virus had led to him going temporarily deaf, being unable to walk, and slipping in and out of a coma for several months.[91][100] In a 2020 interview, Lanegan had described his beliefs in a number of COVID-19 conspiracy theories, including the idea the virus is linked to 5G technology. He also described paranoia that he and his wife were being surveilled by technological appliances.[93][99] However, in 2021 he said he had concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic was a "natural event"[85] and also admitted that "I was one of those knuckleheads who was wary of the vaccine. But I learned my lesson. I’ll be the first one to get a booster shot when it’s available in Ireland."[14]

Lanegan died at his home in Killarney, Ireland, on the morning of February 22, 2022, at the age of 57. No cause of death has been announced at present.

Sally Kellerman, Hot Lips Houlihan in ‘M*A*S*H,’ Dies at 84

Cheryl Cheng
Thu, February 24, 2022

1645766143452.png

Sally Kellerman, the husky-voiced actress known for her Oscar-nominated portrayal of U.S. Army Maj. Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan in Robert Altman’s M*A*S*H, has died. She was 84.

Kellerman, who also sang and had a Grand Funk Railroad tune written for her, died Thursday morning at an assisted care facility in Woodland Hills after a battle with dementia, her son, Jack Krane, told The Hollywood Reporter.

A native Californian, Kellerman had a memorable role in the third Star Trek episode, “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” in which she portrayed Dr. Elizabeth Dehner, a human Starfleet officer aboard the USS Enterprise. When Dehner sacrifices her life, her dying words to Capt. Kirk (William Shatner) are, “I’m sorry … you can’t know what it’s like to … be almost a god.”

And in the comedy Back to School (1986), Kellerman was wonderful as the free-spirited college literature professor Diane Turner, the love interest of Rodney Dangerfield’s obnoxious rags-to-riches businessman, Thornton Melon.

“This is my one brag in life: The director [Alan Metter] said he felt that I helped make Rodney human, believable in a relationship. Because I just had to love him and be sincere about it,” Kellerman said in 2016 on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast. (She played Maron’s eccentric mom on his IFC comedy.)

Kellerman also noted that when fans encountered her in public, they either yelled, “Hey, Hot Lips!” or recited a classic Dangerfield line from Back to School: “Call me sometime when you got no class.”

Kellerman had appeared in guest-starring stints on many TV shows of the 1960s, including The Outer Limits, 12 O’Clock High, Ben Casey, That Girl and Mannix, when she won the role of the by-the-books Houlihan in M*A*S*H, an adaptation of Richard Hooker’s 1968 novel about Army surgeons saving lives during the Korean War.

“Rest Easy Matt, You Are Finally FREE!” — Heartbreaking Obituary for J-6 Prisoner and Suicide Victim Matthew Perno

By Jim Hoft
Published February 27, 2022

7E91597D-93F0-4725-AA78-F0A589E461FE.jpeg

Matthew Perna, a non-violent Trump supporter who was arrested after January 6 committed suicide.

He was never accused of violence or vandalism. He walked inside the US Capitol.

His government targeted him, made up charges against him, and then destroyed him.

In the end, it was too much.

In December Matthew Perna, 37, pleaded guilty to felony obstruction of Congress and three misdemeanor charges associated with his entry into the Capitol on Jan 6, the U.S. Attorney’s office for the District of Columbia reported Friday. He is scheduled for sentencing on March 3.

Via Taylor Hansen: Last week he heard from they were going after more charges against him. “They informed him the other day that they were pursuing additional charges. He couldn’t take another day.”

matthew-perna-2.jpg

Matthew Perna’s family posted a heart-wrenching obituary following his death at the John Flynn Funeral Home webpage.

From his obit:
Matthew Lawrence Perna died on February 25, 2022 of a broken heart. His community (which he loved), his country, and the justice system killed his spirit and his zest for life. Matt was an amazing man! In his 37 years, he experienced more than most people do their entire lives. He graduated from Sharpsville High School in 2002, then went on to graduate from Penn State University…
…He attended the rally on January 6, 2021 to peacefully stand up for his beliefs. After learning that the FBI was looking for him, he immediately turned himself in. He entered the Capitol through a previously opened door (he did not break in as was reported) where he was ushered in by police. He didn’t break, touch, or steal anything. He did not harm anyone, as he stayed within the velvet ropes taking pictures. For this act he has been persecuted by many members of his community, friends, relatives, and people who had never met him. Many people were quietly supportive, and Matt was truly grateful for them. The constant delays in hearings, and postponements dragged out for over a year. Because of this, Matt’s heart broke and his spirit died, and many people are responsible for the pain he endured. Matt did not have a hateful bone in his body. He embraced people of all races, income brackets, and beliefs, never once berating anyone for having different views…
…Matt’s family stood by him during this devastating ordeal, and are extremely proud of his passion for life and his pursuit of many dreams. His actions last year are not looked down upon, instead his family is grateful and humbled by his courage. They say God never gives anyone more than they can handle. That statement is not Biblical, nor is it true. Rest Easy Matt, you are finally FREE!

According to Hannity, Beckel had a key to his house and was a very dear friend of the family.
An Otis had the key to the Jail cell. The commonality ? Both Drunks.

who or what is the miller?
One who milled grain. Grains that could be used to make beers & ales.
The song is set in a Pub:

"We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
But the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
As the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink

The waiter brought a tray

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face, at first just ghostly

Turned a whiter shade of pale......"

Sen. Dianne Feinstein announces death of husband, Richard Blum

another one escapes the human justice system

i'm beginning to understand the 'benefits' of being one of them..., do their bidding, then do what you want with the money they gave you...then die

caviar and human suffering until you puke, then you die

"...Attempts to wrangle these lyrics into linear coherence are thwarted at every turn, in part by red herrings (Reid claimed that the line “As the miller told his tale” has nothing to do with Chaucer) ....".

"...For a pop song, A Whiter Shade of Pale carries an unprecedented amount of literary baggage. Although, Reid reveals, the reference to Chaucer is a red herring. 'One thing people always get wrong is that line about the Miller's Tale. I've never read Chaucer in my life. They're right off the track there.'"....
