Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, his family has said.

The Scottish actor was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first to bring the role to the big screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers.

His acting career spanned decades and his many awards included an Oscar, two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes.
Sir Sean's other films included The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Rock.
He was largely regarded as being the best actor to have played 007 in the long-running franchise, often being named as such in polls.
His Oscar came in 1988, when he was named best supporting actor for his role as an Irish cop in The Untouchables.
He was knighted by the Queen at Holyrood Palace in 2000.

In August, he celebrated his 90th birthday.

One of my favorite Sean Connery moments; (and he wasn't even there)

He's famous for being a handsome man pretending to be other people in front of a camera. No real accomplishment.

He was an entertainer and he entertained. I'm not sure he ever got much into politics. He did his job well and for that he deserves some measure of respect at the time of his death

He was the highest paid actor on the planet in his heyday, after his first Bond movie. That is an accomplishment. Whether it is a socially redeeming or tremendously difficult task, that is a different question.

“Connery was raised in near poverty in the slums of Edinburgh and worked as a coffin polisher, milkman and lifeguard before his bodybuilding hobby helped launch an acting career that made him one of the world's biggest stars.”

Dead at 90 years old. Lived a fairly good life I suppose. 94 movies to his credit overall and a bunch of them really good ones.
Well he lived a much better & longer life than most. May we all, here at GIM2, follow his lead ! :2 thumbs up:

jeeesh, they just can't help themselves, even with a friggin' obit
they never stop, always pushing us,
they keep comin' and comin' and comin' with their propaganda

In truth, his Bond is now a museum piece; the portrayal of women impossibly dated. The action scenes are still thrilling, but the sex too often bordered on the non-consensual.
Thankfully, it's been a while since 007 slapped a woman on the backside and forced a kiss. But Connery's performance was of its time, enjoyed by millions of both sexes and gave the silver screen a 20th Century icon.

The best actors aren’t necessarily the most talented, but the most watchable. They’re people you just want to see in the movies. Connery was definitely one of those guys, like John Wayne and Kirk Douglas, extraordinarily watchable, with enough talent to make it work. I liked him in a lot of films, too numerous to mention.

SC had the ability to make you believe he was that character. He WAS Bond.

AND then you have Chuck Norris, Walker Texas Ranger !!! Not a great actor & sometimes tough to watch !!
BUT I have an old quote from him that shows his honesty.
"It's not how good you are,
But how bad you want it "!

I was thinking of Chuck when I listed those other guys. Chuck couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag, but he was so damn likable, I always wanted to see his movies and his tv show.

My first PG movie at a theater was Dr. No. My mom waited and made it my birthday present but she had to go to make sure it was "appropriate".
Actually she was a Sean Connery fan and I was the excuse for her to see the movie too.
No matter the film I have been a Sean Connery ever since those early 60s.

RIP Sean Connery and Donna Jean Estridge

Yes.

He did his job; did it well; and stayed the hell out of politics. Which in the movie biz, usually means, patronizing lectures to audiences or the public by high-school dropouts, often with drug or liquor problems.

I was not a fan of the Bond films; and I missed Red October - having read the book before the movie came out. But he was who and what he was, and brought no discredit on himself in his years in cinema.

Spencer Davis Group - I'm a Man

Lyrics
Well my pad is very messy
And there's whiskers on my chin
And I'm all hung up on music
And I always play to win
I ain't got no time for lovin'
Cause my time is all used up
Just to sit around creatin'
All that groovy kind of stuff

I'm a man, yes I am and I can't help but love you so
I'm a man, yes I am and I can't help but love you so

Well if I had my choice of matter
I would rather be with cats
All engrossed in mental chatter
Moving where our minds are at
And relating to each other
Just how strong our wills can be
I'm resisting all involvement
With each groovy chick we see

I'm a man yes I am and I can't help but love you so
I'm a man yes I am and I can't help but love you so

I got to keep my image
While suspended from a throne
That looks out upon a kingdom
Full of people all unknown
Who imagine I'm not human
And my heart is made of stone
I never had no problems
And my toilet's trimmed with gold

I'm a man yes I am and I can't help but love you so
I'm a man yes I am and I can't help but love you so
I'm a man yes I am and I can't help but love you so
