EVERY MOTHER'S SON Come On Down To My Boat HQ
Larry Hinze

Published on May 7, 2015
Every Mother's Son was a rock band formed in New York City in 1967. Brothers Dennis Larden (born 22 November 1948) and Larry Larden (born 10 August 1945) had originally performed as a folk duo. In the formation of Every Mother's Son, they were joined by pianist/organist Bruce Milner (born 9 May 1943), drummer Christopher Augustine (born 25 August 1941), and bassist Schuyler Larsen (born 19 February 1947). In early 1967, the group was signed to the MGM Records label (supposedly because management saw the band's clean-cut image as an antidote to the hippie influx). They recorded a self-titled, eleven-song LP, mostly containing songs written by the Larden brothers, that would be described as "clean summer rock (with almost imperceptible echoes of The Beach Boys)." The album's leadoff song "Come on Down to My Boat" (listed on the album as "Come And Take A Ride In My Boat"), written by the band's producer Wes Farrell and Jerry Goldstein, rose to #6 on the Billboard charts in July 1967 (#3 in Canada).

When I first saw this, I thought it was gonna be hokey.
...but it's actually really good. If you like it, try listening again with speed set to 75%. It makes him sound even more like Bowie.

It's been such a long time since I made the last 20min Celtic song, but here we are finally.^^ There isn't much to tell about this, I want everyone to be able to make up their own stories and imagination to this piece.
I hope you enjoy the song and that it can relax you and open up your creativity and imagination, that's actually the whole point for why I do these long compositions.^^

I wanted to make a song that one person with one instrument can play. My vision for this was to imagine a bard playing this on his harp for a queen and her daughter to lull the child to sleep. I'm thinking about doing this more often, I mean bard songs that can be played with just one single instrument or maybe two as a duet. Just how it would have been realistically back then if you met a bard and he played you a song.^^

Tom T Hall was one of the most prolific songwriters/singers to come out of the heart of bluegrass KY, Olive Hill.

I can't identify who is singing high harmonies with old Tom on this one, Stanley Brothers?

This one takes me back to when being a white man in some old smokey American Tavern was about as good as it ever got in this country.

(sure, you have to back up the tape at least 45 years, but it would be worth it just to see the cars in the parking lot during that era)

Not far up the road from Olive Hill, John Conlee, grew up on a tobacco/hog farm. Near the Wild Turkey Distillery where the hog farmers could haul away the used mash for free after distilling. You also used to be able to get their old oak whisky barrels for $10 a pop, but not anymore since the Japs bought out that distillery.

My old g/f from Lawrenceburg KY remembered seeing John Conlee sitting out in front of the local feedmill on weekends, dressed in his old farm overalls (as his parents still had the family farm near Versailles) after he had several hit songs on the Country charts.

Have followed Phil Keaggy since the late 60's in Kent Ohio and many other places since. Gets back with Glass Harp on occasions but mostly plays solo in small venues and mainly churches. This is one of many videos, this probably from early or mid 70's, he still has hair. I'll post other stuff, but this has no vocals, just his unique style.

He's a true believer in Christ, has been for decades so this, as most of his music, is worship. This is what he's been doing the past...20+ years...he uses a "loop" machine, he puts down a bass line, then a beat from tapping on the guitar, a rhythm part and so on. This is a very short version of this song, he doesn't do harmonies this time but when he does, he sings into the guitar, there will be 3 part harmonies. Rather gifted guy.

Yeah, Phil is super talented and worth a listen when in the mood for a rhythmic jazz sound.

Listened to him since the mid 70s myself, hold over from the 'Jesus People' who came out of Woodstock, I believe.

I will never forget those hippies turned Jesus freaks back in the 70s. LSD and heaven? Those guys tripped hard.
