NEW YORK, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Russia has banned a pro-democracy charity founded by hedge fund billionaire and philanthropist George Soros, saying it posed a threat to both state security and the Russian constitution.
In a statement released on Monday, Russia’s General Prosecutor’s Office said two branches of Soros’ charity network - the Open Society Foundations and the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation - would be placed on a “stop list” of foreign non-governmental organizations whose activities have been deemed “undesirable” by the Russian state.
“It was found that the activity of the Open Society Foundations and the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation represents a threat to the foundations of the constitutional system of the Russian Federation and the security of the state,” the statement said.
It did not elaborate, but the Hungarian-born Soros urged the West earlier this year to step up aid to Ukraine, outlining steps toward a $50 billion financing package that he said should be viewed as a bulwark against an increasingly aggressive Russia.
The Open Society Foundations said it was “dismayed” by the Russian decision.
“Contrary to the Russian prosecutor’s allegations, the Open Society Foundations have, for more than a quarter-century, helped to strengthen the rule of law in Russia and protect the rights of all,” Open Society said in a statement.
“In the past, our efforts have been welcomed by Russian officials and citizens, and we regret the changes that have led the government to reject our support to Russian civil society and ignore the aspirations of the Russian people,” it said.
Soros, meanwhile, said in a separate statement: “We are confident that this move is a temporary aberration; the aspirations of the Russian people for a better future cannot be suppressed and will ultimately succeed.”
Soros founded the Open Society Foundations in 1979 when his hedge fund had reached about $100 million and his personal wealth had climbed to about $25 million. It began its philanthropic activity by giving scholarships to black South Africans under apartheid.
Soros, 85, now funds a network of foundations that support human rights, freedom of expression and access to public health and education in 70 countries around the globe.

State officials are urging the public to avoid all contact with Huron River water in a stretch of the river in Oakland and Livingston counties, after learning of a company's release of potentially harmful hexavalent chromium into the Wixom sewer treatment system that outflows into the river.
The Michigan departments of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and Health and Human Services recommended Tuesday afternoon that until further notice, people and pets avoid contact with Huron River water in an area from North Wixom Road in Oakland County and Kensington Road in Livingston County. In Oakland County this includes Norton Creek downstream of the Wixom Wastewater Treatment Plant and Hubbell Pond, also known as Mill Pond. The potentially affected area also includes Kent Lake in Oakland and Livingston counties.
For the described area, residents and their pets are encouraged to avoid drinking water directly from the Huron River; swimming or wading in the river; watering plants or lawns with Huron River water, or eating fish caught in this section of the river. A "do not eat the fish" advisory was already in place for this area because of contamination with the nonstick chemical PFOS.
Chemical released, hexavalent chromium, is a known carcinogen
Tribar Manufacturing, an automotive trim manufacturer in Wixom, informed state officials Monday afternoon that it had released several thousand gallons of a liquid containing 5% hexavalent chromium into the sewer system. Company officials said they discovered the release Monday but indicated it may have started as early as Saturday morning, according to Wixom city officials. It is believed that much of the contaminant already made its way through the Wixom treatment plant by the time the release was discovered.“This is a significant release into a large, much-loved waterway,” said EGLE Director Liesl Clark in a statement. “Our teams are in the field now assessing the situation. We will stay on the job as long as it takes to ensure residents are safe and impacts to the ecosystem are minimized.”
Hexavalent chromium is a known carcinogen that can cause a number of adverse health effects through ingestion, skin contact or inhalation. OSHA's website says "chromium metal is added to alloy steel to increase hardenability and corrosion resistance."
Kensington Metropark closes lake
Staff at Kensington Metropark east of Brighton directed beachgoers out of the waters of Kent Lake on Tuesday afternoon and closed boat launches upon learning of the spill from an EGLE news press release. Beaches and water access points will remain closed until further notice out of an abundance of caution, park officials stated on the Metropark's website."We are disappointed that this announcement did not come sooner and directly from state agencies, and Metroparks will continue to monitor the situation and seek clarification from those agencies," park officials stated.

EGLE was taking river water samples Tuesday from multiple areas downstream from the treatment plant and was working with local and state health officials to assess the extent of the contamination. Testing is also taking place within the Tribar facility and the Wixom wastewater treatment plant. Monitoring will continue in coming days and weeks.
Results from sampling may take days to receive, officials said.
No threat seen to drinking water
The state advisory "is being made to help protect the health and safety of families who live, work and play in the Huron River in the affected area,” said MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel. “As we gather additional information through sampling, this recommendation may change or be expanded.”Officials stressed that they saw no immediate threat to drinking water. The closest drinking water intake is in Ann Arbor. Time-of-travel modeling indicates it would take the contaminant at least several weeks to make its way to the city’s water intakes. The city has been notified of the release and is also taking steps to monitor incoming water.
Tribar Manufacturing was identified as the source of PFAS contamination to the river system in recent years, and installed additional filtration to help address that problem.
State regulators said they will investigate the circumstances of the weekend release at the facility, but stressed that the immediate concern is ensuring the protection of the environment and public health.

August 4, 2022 Updated 10:50 A.M. ETTAMPA (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended State Attorney Andrew Warren of the 13th Judicial Circuit for failing to prosecuting certain crimes and vowing not to enforce certain abortion laws or potential laws related to sex change.
“State Attorneys have a duty to prosecute crimes as defined in Florida law, not to pick and choose which laws to enforce based on his personal agenda,” DeSantis said.
The governor called Warren’s record “troubling” and pointed to a letters he signed promising not to enforce laws related to abortions and saying he would not enforce potential bans on sex change operations for minors.
“Andrew Warren has put himself publicly above the law,” DeSantis explained. “He said it doesn’t matter what the state legislature does in Florida, he’s going to exercise a veto over that.”
Warren has implemented policies of “presumptive non-enforcement,” which DeSantis said is not consistent with the role of a prosecutor.
“Yes, you can exercise discretion in an individual case, but that discretion has to be individualized and case specific. You can’t just say that you’re not going to do a certain offenses,” he said.
Christina Pushaw, DeSantis’ press secretary, slammed Warren and other prosecutors for being “backed by Soros” and refusing to “enforce laws across the country.”
“But [DeSantis] won’t stand for this. He just suspended one in Florida.”
When the Tampa Bay Times asked Warren if George Soros helped fund his campaign, Warren replied, “We think so.”
“We understand that he gave money to the state (Democratic) party. And the state party money … went to support different candidates. And I have very little insight into the amount of money he gave, who it went to, etc.”

China has decided to cut diplomatic ties with the US in a number of military and civilian areas, the Foreign Ministry announced on Friday. The devolvement of ties is Beijing’s way of retaliating for this week’s visit to Taiwan by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.
The ministry released a list of areas in which there will no longer be communication between Chinese and American officials. It includes military contacts on the level of theater commander and wider defense policy coordination talks. Also suspended are consultations on maritime security, cooperation on the repatriation of illegal migrants, legal assistance on criminal matters, fighting against transnational crime and drug trafficking, and talks on climate change, according to the statement.
Earlier on Friday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced personal sanctions on Pelosi and her immediate family members.

The US-led drive to isolate Russia through sanctions has not succeeded, as half the countries in the Group of Twenty leading global economies refused to sign on, Bloomberg reported on Friday.
According to the publication, senior officials from leading Western nations are surprised by the lack of support within the wider G20, despite their efforts to make the case for restrictions against Russia.
Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Turkey have not joined the sanctions that were adopted by the US, UK, EU, and their allies Australia, Canada, Japan, and South Korea. Some nations, like China and South Africa, have openly criticized the restrictions. The G20 nations account for around 85% of global economic output.

According to Bloomberg, the reasons for the lack of support include strong trade ties, historical affinities to Moscow, and a distrust of former colonial powers.

The Pentagon on Friday rejected DC Mayor Muriel Bowser’s request for National Guard troops to help with the influx of illegal aliens being bused in from Texas.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin rejected Bowser’s request, saying that it would hurt troop readiness, Reuters reported.
Bowser last Thursday requested the activation of the National Guard to help deal with the influx of illegal aliens being bused into Washington, DC.
More than 4,000 illegal aliens have been bused into DC since mid-April.
Bowser last Thursday called it a “humanitarian crisis.”

Earlier this year Texas began dispatching buses to the southern border to transport the illegal immigrants to Washington D.C.
Governor Greg Abbott announced during his press conference in April that his state will begin to use charter buses to ship illegal immigrants to Washington, D.C., as part of his strategy for the overwhelming influx of illegal immigrants.
“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration to Washington, DC,” Governor Abbott announced.
“We are sending them to the United States Capitol, where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border,” Gov. Abbott continued.
The first bus of illegals arrived in DC in mid-April.

An 80-year-old Washington state woman has been banned from using her local YMCA's public pool after she expressed discomfort with a biological male in the women’s locker room as young girls were undressing. The biological male was reportedly with girls from the day camp, overseeing their bathroom activities. Jaman said that she had been showering after her July 26 swim at the pool, when she heard "a man’s voice in the women’s dressing area." She said that she saw "a man in a women’s swimsuit, watching little girls pull down their bathing suits in order to use the toilets in the dressing room."
In an email from the YMCA’s Marketing and Communications Manager to The Post Millennial, they said that the staff member was not "engaging" with these girls, but rather escorting them to the dressing room.
According to the Port Townsend Free Press, Jaman, who had been in the shower when she realized what was happening, hidden behind thin, sheer shower curtains, asked this person, revealed to go by the name Clementine Adams, "Do you have a penis?"
"None of your business," Adams reportedly responded.
"Get out of here, right now," Jaman replied.
"You’re discriminating and you can’t use the pool anymore and I’m calling the police," YMCA aquatics manager Rowen DeLuna told Jaman after she requested that Adams leave the room, according to the Port Townsend Free Press.
In an email from the YMCA’s Marketing and Communications Manager, they said that Jaman was not permanently suspended for this incident alone, but rather due to "repeatedly violating the Olympic Peninsula YMCA code of conduct, specifically, using disrespectful words or gestures towards YMCA staff or others; and abusive, harassing and/or obscene language or gestures towards YMCA staff or others."
The manager said that the facility has experiences past issues, but that the incident in the changing room was "unforgivable and extremely harmful."
As Jaman attempted to leave the building, DeLuna reportedly told Jaman that she was not abiding by the YMCA’s principles and values.
Another YMCA staffer reportedly blocked Jaman from leaving, to which Jaman said, "Bullsh*t! I’m going to the police right now. I want help and I need it immediately."
Jaman went next door to the police, and later received a call back from Port Townsend Police Officer Marc Titterness.
In a police call report obtained by the Port Townsend Free Press, Titterness said that Jaman "had an emotional response to a strange male being in the bathroom and helping a young girl take off her bathing suit."
This call report also contained call records made by an anonymous person from the YMCA, who told police that "Clementine was in the bathroom with a child in the day camp and Julie asked if she had a penis and started screaming at her to get out."
In another call, this person said that Jaman had "been asked to leave and is refusing."
Yet another call said that Jaman "was screaming at employee and calling names and refusing to leave."
Jaman had also spoke with Wendy Bart, the CEO of the Olympic Peninsula YMCA, who stood by the actions of her employees.
Bart said that a staff member claimed Jaman said to Adams, "You’re going to stick your fucking penis in those little girls."
According to the Substack "The Distance," Jaman denied ever saying this, noting "I am an 80 year-old woman and I do not talk like that."
"There is no signage informing women the shower room is now all gender and what that means, nor have parents been informed of what they can expect with these new policies," Jaman told the City Council.
Per Washington state law, "All covered entities shall allow individuals the use of gender-segregated facilities, such as restrooms, locker rooms, dressing rooms, and homeless or emergency shelters, that are consistent with that individual's gender expression or gender identity."
"The Y has not provided any dressing, shower room options for women who do not want to be exposed to men who identify as women," Jaman added.
The YMCA manager told The Post Millennial though that within the changing rooms, there are private stalls that close and lock for individuals that would like additional privacy within the changing rooms.
Jaman continued, "The staff seems to have received little professional training on how to handle reactions to such a radical cultural change, particularly for the most vulnerable, older female patrons and children who may be exposed to inappropriate behavior. The dignity and safety of unsuspecting women who have trusted to use these facilities for many years. This is not right."
In response to her banning, Jaman and supporters have taken to protesting outside of the pool, arguing that that the YMCA has promised the addition of all-gender bathrooms, but that instead, "took over the traditional binary areas."
The following day, on August 2, the YMCA manager told The Post Millennial said that around 60 people had congregated outside the facility, but that a large portion of this group came out in support of the facility’s actions.
"The Y will uphold and respect this law in regards to YMCA staff, members, and program participants that use Mountain View Pool. At the Y, our goal is to provide an atmosphere free from discrimination, hatred, derogatory or unwelcome comments, intimidation, or actions based on an individual’s sex, age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or any other legally protected status," a press release from the YMCA states.

An 80-year-old Washington state woman has been banned from using her local YMCA's public pool after she expressed discomfort with a biological male in the women’s locker room as young girls were undressing. She was in the shower when she heard a male voice and peeked out to find a biological male in a women's swimsuit engaging with little girls who were undressing.
The biological male was reportedly with girls from the day camp, overseeing their bathroom activities. Addressing the Port Townsend City Council on Monday, Julie Jaman, a resident of Port Townsend of about 40 years, described the situation she had been in after her regular swim at the Mountain Valley Pool.

That man is clearly part of Nancy Pelosi’s inner entourage, but, strangely, he does not appear in any other photographs circulating on the internet.

So, the question is, what was the true purpose of Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan that has risked war with China?
My guess is that it is about computer chips and the family fortune, not diplomacy.

Megacorporation Amazon has expanded its empire of data capturing devices by spending $1.7 billion purchasing beloved maker of vacuuming robots and former beloved maker of warzone robots iRobot, which makes Roombas. In addition to tidying up, Roombas are also great at mapping the interior of your home and creating marketable data for its parent company.
This, and its recent acquisition of One Medical, have made it harder and harder to escape Amazon’s panopticon and further entrench Jeff Bezos’s bookstore as an inescapable omnicorporation with its hands in every part of your daily life.
The iRobot acquisition also comes a year after Amazon revealed the Astro—a little Alexa on wheels that spies on you. Leaked documents acquired by Motherboard revealed that one of the goals of Astro was to create a robot that intelligently plotted out the interior of a user’s homes, even creating heat maps of highly trafficked areas. The Astro has not been well received, but people love their robot vacuums, which often do the same thing.
The news also comes weeks after the corporate giant purchased the healthcare company One Medical for $3.9 billion. These recent acquisitions give Amazon access to medical records, maps of customer homes, voice samples through Alexa, home network activity through its Eero brand of mesh routers, videos of neighborhoods and random passersby through Ring cameras, and a wealth of consumer data through its website. Then consider that a giant portion of the internet runs on Amazon Web Services, that 1 out of every 153 Americans is an Amazon worker, that it owns a large and popular grocery store chain, just subsumed GrubHub into its orbit, so on and so forth.
Even if you want to avoid it, it’s become impossible for Amazon to not touch some portion of your life. Amazon has repeatedly violated labor laws, puts its warehouse employees in dangerous work environments, and repeatedly shared footage from its Ring cameras with cops without getting a warrant. There’s a lot of reasons to boycott Amazon.
That’s increasingly hard to do. Even if you stopped buying things from Amazon, stopped watching The Boys, and removed every bit of Amazon backed tech from your home, you’d still have to contend with Amazon Web Services. The cloud servers have a 33% market share and are the single biggest point of failure for the internet. If you’re on the internet, then you’re surfing in the AWS cloud. It’s inescapable.
Every purchase cements Amazon’s market dominance and makes them that much more inescapable. A Roomba, in itself, is not scary. Paired with Amazon’s vast surveillance infrastructure it becomes something more sinister: another device in your home that gathers data and plugs it into Amazon’s systems. The corporation is always watching you, always touching your life, and always eager to figure out another way to sell you something.

It was bad enough my TV was surveiling, now I have the firestick doing it.
I hope they bus in another 40-50,000. Make it so painful for the liberals that they have to force action regarding the border. Send EVERY ILLEGAL home, and put them at the end of the line foe LEGAL migration.

Nine fires break out overnight in foothills, may have been set on purpose
BOISE, Idaho — Nine fires broke out overnight, and some of them may have been set on purpose.
The fires started in the early hours of Friday morning, according to Boise District BLM Fire Information Officer Brandon Hampton.
There is no set timeline for when investigators will have a good idea of how these fires started, or if these fires are related. However, early information concerns the Ada County Sherriff's Office (ACSO).
