NYC Board of Elections Admits It Broke the Law Re: Democratic Primary

The Department of Justice says the city Board of Elections broke federal law by improperly purging nearly 120,000 Brooklyn voters from the rolls ahead of last April’s presidential primary.

The feds intervened in a lawsuit against the board over the massive bungle that resulted in many Brooklyn residents showing up at the polls to vote only to be told they weren’t eligible.

In a brief filed Thursday in Brooklyn federal court, DOJ said the move violated the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.

States are not allowed to kick voters off the roles solely because they’ve failed to vote — but may remove them only if there’s reliable information indicating they have moved away, they don’t respond to a notice sent to their home, and they don’t vote through the second federal general election after that notice.

BOE didn’t follow those rules in its purge — and in fact removed thousands of voters who had voted since 2008, along with others who had not but were entitled to remain registered, according to the federal brief.

The suit was initially filed by good government group Common Cause.

Brooklyn election staff booted some 117,000 voters, leading to an 8% decline in voter registration in the borough.

“The deficient oversight of borough voter removal programs...was a cause of the unlawful removals of voters from the voter rolls,” officials wrote in the brief, which was first reported by WNYC. “Unless enjoined by this Court, the deficient oversight of borough voter removal programs...is likely to result in the same or similar unlawful removals of voters” in the future.

The suit was originally filed by good government group Common Cause. “A lawsuit should not be necessary to get the Board of Elections to comply with applicable federal law. New Yorkers deserve a professional elections administration that makes voting easy, accessible, and efficient," said executive director Susan Lerner.

Awesome, so who's responsible and when will they be locked up. Right, that's never going to happen. lol

Meanwhile possession of a a dime bag = a stay at the gulag. The rule of law is dead as a door nail in this nation.

How much you want to bet that most of those removed voters weren’t Democrats? It’s NYC after all were the rule of law is overruled by feelings and politics with a healthy heaping of corruption.
