Came into the house a few minutes ago from doing chores at -10F and the smell of oven fresh cinnamon buns attacked my nostrils causing the stomach to immediately start begging for some. The smell also took me back in time another place with the same odor. Got me to thinking what were my favorite smells.
Fresh cut hay.
Fresh broke earth.
The way my shop smells when we smoke meat.

Yep a rain can freshen up the air some alright.
Fresh made popcorn has always been a favorite too. Could be because it's what I eat in the ram pasture.

- Freshly cut grass
- The ocean when you cross from the NJ mainland on to the island
- The house when making home made vegetable beef soup
- The house when a turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes and green beens are all cooking at once.

Burning wood of various types. Too bad they outlawed the burning of leaves in the fall, the scent added a lot to the season.

Grandma's house when I was a kid.

Thanksgiving, Christmas and other big family dinners (many at Grandma's).

Fresh honey right off the comb.

Campfire smoke.

Clean, crisp air on the top of a mountain after a tough hike.

Well I sure ain't never smelled that, can you describe it?
No, I cannot.

You must go stand in there and inhale deeply and think for a while. Enjoy the anticipation.

And carefully choose the perfect shape, and the perfect shade of olive-brown skin.

Long and slender, not too thin, but not too fat.

My mouth must be comfortable around that nipple on the end.

Not too shiny lest she be oily and hard to draw.

Not to dull, lest she be dry and get too hot and burn out too fast.

Pay the price, take her home. She will only last a little while.

Suck her slowly, not too hard.

Pour a drink, she'll stay hot for a minute.

Go back and breathe life back into her. Suck a little, not too fast.

What a good cigar.

Coming home from school as a kid, and smelling chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven. Puppy breath, when you bring home a new little Buddy! Somehow all puppies have that same smelling breath. The first Fall rain.

I miss the smell of quality tobacco being smoked, the politically correct forces have taxed it out of reach of most. Healthy people, especially the youth have a great odor not the nasty human odors of the sick and unwell. Running a tree and landscape business all the odors of the earth were great, fresh topsoil, leaves both fresh and decaying, the odors of freshly split firewood, etc.. I actually like a lot of petro products like diesel and burning coal, they are the smell of industry and production and work.

The first whiffs when getting off of the plane on a tropical island after leaving a harsh winter back home- if you are so fortunate... even mixed with the faint smell of jet exhaust... Magical.

The smell of distant burning coal, driving through the hills on a crisp Appalachian morning.

Korean lilacs.

I'll pass on the coal odor. Get plenty at work and from the coal stove

I was going to add the airplane bit but you beat me to it.

When it comes to food, grilled onions always spark my appetite. Evergreens in the woods. Scents can bring back a lot of memories.

driving across E Wyoming, you could just smell the Ngas in the air

Cutting hay with a tractor and haybine first thing in the morning, the air was fresh, then add in the smell of hay as you laid it down to dry.

as a youngin, stacking fresh hay in the barn. Had to stack to get all we could in it to last the winter. You are in there with 80-100 degree heat, sweat pouring off you, and the smell was intense. Especially second crop with the smaller leaves and more aromatic smell. You would come out of there and head for a garden hose to cool yourself off and wash off the hay all over you as it stuck quite well to the sweat pouring out your body.

Then in the winter, it became your basketball court. Small area at first surrounded by mountains of hay, and gradually the court would get larger and larger until it was time to do it all over again.

In the winter, coming in from the cold and fresh handmade bread coming out of the oven..........

Vanilla
Burning leaves
Cuban cigars. When I lived in Ct myself and a bunch of others enthusiasts would go to the casino once a month for a smoking session. People would come up to us all the time and ask what we were smoking because it smelled so good.
Cinnamin baked in anything.
Pasta sauce thats been on the stove all day simmering away.

Cinnamon sure do make things smell good. Last time I was fishing there was a fellow from Colorado smoking a pipe and it made me talk to him. Ended up trading him some other smokables for some pipe tobac.

Early this AM - onions, green peppers, sweet Italian sausage and eggs being scrambled in olive oil with a hint of fresh coffee in the air.

A little while ago - homemade pasta sauce (gravy) with meatballs, sausage & pork simmering away. Had penne for dinner.

FARTS, SH!T, and Day Long work boot socks are ODORS. :bombs 8:

Those descriptions in the other posts above are Aromas, Scents and Fragrances :spring:

In my long ago Pick-up days one line I liked and it usually was successful " ... you sure stink pretty". It either got me slapped or a chuckle and get a conversation started to break the ice ( I think the slaps were girls that stopped listening to soon). :winter: :loved:

My old lady sometimes gives me a pair of her panties to sniff while I'm at work.
