Ron Paul National Campaign Chairman Blasts CBS News

Ron Paul National Campaign Chairman Blasts CBS News

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton released the following statement concerning the CBS / National Journal Republican debate:

“Ron Paul consistently polls among the top three in the key early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire. He is polling in double digits in most respected polls.

“Congressman Paul is ranked among the top three in fundraising results.

“Congressman Paul serves on the House Foreign Relations Committee.

“Congressman Paul is a veteran.

“And, Congressman Paul has contrasting views on foreign policy that many Americans find worthy of inquiry and discussion.

“CBS's treatment of Congressman Paul is disgraceful, especially given that tonight’s debate centered on foreign policy and national security.

“Congressman Paul was only allocated 90 seconds of speaking in one televised hour. If we are to have an authentic national conversation on issues such as security and defense, we can and must do better to ensure that all voices are heard.

“CBS News, in their arrogance, may think they can choose the next president. Fortunately, the people of Iowa, New Hampshire, and across America get to vote and not the media elites.”

GOP Candidates Blast CBS News’ for ‘Disgraceful’ Bias at South Carolina Debate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Fireworks were few and far between at the GOP’s foreign policy debate tonight, but if any issue provoked the ire of some candidates it was not each other but rather how CBS News’ moderator Scott Pelley ran the event.

Numerous candidates from Rep. Michele Bachmann to Rep. Ron Paul complained about unfair treatment from the network, arguing that rival campaigns had received far more attention during the debate. The Bachmann campaign went so far as to release an email that they said spokeswoman Alice Stewart had “inadvertently received” from CBS earlier in the day.
In the email string, CBS News’ political analyst John Dickerson said that Bachmann was “not going to get many questions during the debate and she’s nearly off the charts,” a reference to the Minnesota congresswoman’s low standing in the polls.

After the debate Stewart said that CBS News was guilty of “a bias” against Bachmann.
“I inadvertently received an email where CBS made it clear that Michele was going to receive fewer questions than the other candidates. Clearly this is a problem,” Stewart said. “The debates are an opportunity for the candidates to share their views on the issues. This is an important issue for Congresswoman Bachmann. She’s a member of the House, the Foreign Intelligence Committee. She knows this issue unlike the other candidates on this stage and the email chain that I inadvertently received clearly indicates a bias on CBS’ part to limit the questions to Congresswoman Bachmann.

“We had discussions about [it] and they indicated that they would make sure that the level — that the playing field would be level,” Stewart added. “However she received substantially fewer questions than the other candidates and she wasn’t allowed any follow-ups.

“There’s nothing that can be done now. The debate’s over,” Stewart said. “They assured us prior to debate that it was going to be a fair and level playing field and it certainly wasn’t. We didn’t want to have to get the word out but they made it clear to us that it was going to be fair and it wasn’t.”

Other candidates also complained about their treatment during the debate.

Paul’s spokesman Jesse Benton accused CBS of “disgraceful” actions that stemmed from an “arrogance” in thinking that “they can choose the next president.”

“Ron Paul consistently polls among the top three in the key early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire,” Benton said in a statement. “He is polling in double digits in most respected polls. Congressman Paul is ranked among the top three in fundraising results. Congressman Paul serves on the House Foreign Relations Committee. Congressman Paul is a veteran. And, Congressman Paul has contrasting views on foreign policy that many Americans find worthy of inquiry and discussion. CBS’s treatment of Congressman Paul is disgraceful, especially given that tonight’s debate centered on foreign policy and national security.

“Congressman Paul was only allocated 90 seconds of speaking in one televised hour,” Benton said. “If we are to have an authentic national conversation on issues such as security and defense, we can and must do better to ensure that all voices are heard. CBS News, in their arrogance, may think they can choose the next president. Fortunately, the people of Iowa, New Hampshire, and across America get to vote and not the media elites.”

Bachmann and Paul were not the only ones who complained. During the debate itself, former Utah Gov. and ambassador to China Jon Huntsman at one point remarked, “Gets a little lonely over here in Siberia.” To which former Sen. Rick Santorum quipped, “Tell me about it.”
Afterwards CBS News spokeswoman Sonya McNair shrugged off the Bachmann flap, saying, “It was a candid exchange about the reality of the circumstances — Bachmann remains at 4 percent in the polls.”

Pelley even waded into the spin room himself, but he did not want to comment on the candidates’ complaints.

“I’ll tell you that the time for all of the candidates was limited. We had an hour and a half. We had eight candidates,” Pelley told reporters. “I’ll also tell you we spent an enormous amount of time, several weeks, counting all of the questions of all the candidates, making sure everyone had a fair shot. Gov. Huntsman, who is polling around 1 percent at this point, made a point of coming up to me on stage and said, ‘I really appreciate how much you talked to the candidates who are not polling very high in numbers.’ So I think the candidates felt they were well treated.”

Clearly, though, that was not the case.

Way to go, Tom Woods. :23_28_100s:

I wonder how many emails the Ron Paul campaign will have in their inbox tomorrow, telling them about this YouTube video. Lots, I hope.

I forgot about this debate last night. I quess I didn't miss anything. This is a freaking disgrace. Something radical has to be done. All those that aren't getting their fair share of time should boycote these polls. That would leave the three stooges.

I quess mr. Ubeki beki beki stan stan got a boatload of time, since he's got all the foreign policy answers.

I read a comment someone posted on youtube that Ron Paul should protest by taking a newspaper to the next debate and read it since they don't ask him questions.

I wonder if there is any restrictions in these debates about using props. Something like a giant poster stating "I demand my time". Or, "these debates are rigged". Paul, Bachmann, Santorum and Huntsman all should get together and make these debates more of a sideshow than they already are.

Where it really becomes obvious is when you reply to the "comments" section of yahoo articles on the campaign...

If you're in favor of Ron Paul, a few things happen:

- When you give a pro- Ron Paul "thumbs-up", and you return, say, an hour later, the number of "thumbs-up" has "shrunk", and, miraculously, you're able to "thumb him up" again (so your previous "thumbs-up" had been "deleted".)

- Also, when you make a pro Ron Paul "comment", there's a good chance that a short while later you can't "find" it in the "list". Poof! Yet, when you click the "my comments" tab, it's still there! Staying within the "my comments" tab, if your reply to another comment (which shows up in your "my comment tab" list) - you'll see it in your "my comment" list.. BUT... along with that comment you left, there's the "go to original post" (that you commented on) - then "view replies" - and, oh miracle, YOUR comment isn't there any more - and the "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" that you'd left for the other posters have miraculously disappeared too!

Try it!

I leave thumbs up on all Ron paul stuff. I haven't notched this, but will definetly try it out.

- Also, when you make a pro Ron Paul "comment", there's a good chance that a short while later you can't "find" it in the "list". Poof! Yet, when you click the "my comments" tab, it's still there! I haven't noticed this either. I leave all sorts of trash about Obama and it all seems to still be there. I have to keep track of the RP stuff. It's such a pain in the ass back tracking through all the posts though.

Try it!
One thing I've been doing is going on some of the articles about famous people (not political). Places where the younger people may be reading. I put replies in there something like "if you would don't want war, and don't want to see our young people die needlessly, hear the words of Ron Paul". Generally this gets good response. Ron Paul has a good youth movement. Get them while their young I guess.

Obama good a large percentage of the younger vote in 08. Hopefully not this time. I would think most kids are opposed to war.

Santorum as on Hannity sirius this evening. Hannity said Santorum and Gingrich each got about 900 WORDS in at the debate. Ron Paul got 200 and some.

Of course Santorum was mad about the time. He went on to say Bachmann, Huntsman and Ron Paul all should be mad as well. Hannity even stated that Ron Paul supporters were "furious".

Re: Outrageous: Ron Paul got a grand total of 89 seconds of face time in the CBS deba

Personally, I try not to let this stuff upset me too much. I've accepted the fact that TPTB aren't about to let Paul reach the status of "electibility." They don't have total control, but they have just enough. These days they don't have to kill a man like Paul, which is good for them, that gets all messy. Easier to belittle him, demonize him, ignore him, etc. But they'd still off him if they had to.

I'll still vote for him, teach people what he talks about, support his ideas, but let's be real, there isn't a political solution to our problems. They've made sure of that.

One more thing about the yahoo comments. I posted that Herman Cain should be waterboarded about the sex scandal. A lot of people liked that idea. There was an article about Cain's wife speaking out. A lot of trash replies were posted, especially by women. It seems the tide is turning for Herman.

IMHO Gnewt Green Grinch would be the lesser of the evils of the other candidates. Not that that's saying much.

A ticket of GreenGrinch/Cain might fare well enough to win it.

I now believe you're right. Something strange is happening on yahoo. Today I posted some comments on an article about the lack of progress by the super committee. I asked who was the idiot that came up with this concept. Then I said, oh yes it was Obama.

Later on I checked my post, it had some feedback. Maybe 2 hours later, the post was entirely gone. People I believe can request to yahoo to have posts removed if they find them offensive. Mine wasn't offensive, it may have been slightly sarcastic. Boycot yahoo I guess.

It gets better & better...

hmmm....

Yahoo's "news comments" have been "snuffed"...

This is after weeks of "weird behavior" of the "thumbs-up" & "thumbs-down" feature - being "reset to zero" for instance, as well as many "pro-Paul" posts just plain "disappearing" and the "comment count" dropping from say 2500 to 150... in articles about the primaries...
Well, zero commentaries today...

-------

And how do you like this poll? (Of course, online polling attracts "motivated" voters - rather than "ho-hum, dunno which one has the better hair to vote for"...)

http://www.usnews.com/polls/who-is-your-pick-for-the-gop-2012-nomination/vote.html

When I tried it yesterday, it showed "Other" instead of "Ron Paul"... Strange "shenanigans", really...

Yes, that concerns me a lot...

I've donated to BlackBoxVoting.org since 2006, I think it was that year, if not earlier... After they revealed this:

Yeah, I thought the disruption in being able to post a comment was very strange as well. It's not just the politcal or financial articles effected. I think yahoo should think things through very seriously before making changes to leaving comments on the articles. They may loose a boat load of people.

"RON PAUL 2012" Looks good written on every dollar bill that you get your hands on. Magic marker is the best.
