108 people in Florida were arrested during a six-day undercover human trafficking operation, “Operation March Sadness 2,” which began on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.Polk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the effort by police departments from Winter Haven, Haines City, Lake Wales, and Auburndale, as well as the Office of the State Attorney 10th Judicial Court, members from the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), and anti-human trafficking organizations: One More Child, Heartland for Children, and Selah Freedom of Sarasota.
Detectives identified prostitutes who posted online advertisements as well as the “johns” who were seeking out the prostitutes via online communications, with the intent to identify and free any victims who were being forced into prostitution (human trafficking), or anyone participating in the trafficking of victims. Detectives also identified and investigated adults who engaged in online sexually charged communications with those they believed were children—four men were arrested for preying on children online.

“The arrests of a human trafficker and four child predators alone makes this whole operation worthwhile. The online prostitution industry enables traffickers and victimizes those who are being trafficked. Our goal is to identify victims, offer them help, and find and arrest those who are profiting from the exploitation of human beings. Johns fuel the trafficking and victimization. Where there is prostitution, there is exploitation, disease, dysfunction, and broken families,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
Undercover detectives communicated online with the suspects and arranged for a meetup at a location where they were arrested after their arrival.
Members of the anti-trafficking organizations were on hand to speak with the prostitutes to help determine if they were human trafficking victims—they were offered services and counseling.
The oldest person arrested was 67-year old Derek Collins who showed up to the residence drinking Ensure, the youngest was a 17-year old male. Both were arrested for soliciting for a prostitute.
Among the 108 arrests made, there were several which stood out.
Human Trafficking Suspect:
32-year old Tiffany Nash of Orlando was arrested for trafficking another woman in prostitution. The woman, an adult female, arrived at the residence as a prostitute, but an investigation revealed that Nash repeatedly threatened violence against the victim if she didn’t prostitute herself. Nash would take all money derived from the victim’s prostitution. When Nash arrived at the location to check on the victim, she was taken into custody and charged with: Human Trafficking (F1), Deriving Proceeds from Prostitution (F2), Possession of Cocaine (F3), Possession of Methamphetamine (F3), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (M1).
Nash’s victim was provided the assistance of one of the anti-trafficking organizations.
Child Predators:
39-year old Timothy Finley of Mulberry began communicating online with an undercover detective, thinking he was chatting with a 13-year old female. Finley traveled to the residence with the intent for sexual conduct with her. He was arrested and charged with: Travel to Meet a Minor/Using Computer to Lure (F2), Attempted Lewd Battery (F3), Transmit Material Harmful to Minor (F3), Possession of Methamphetamine (F3), Resisting (M1), and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (M1).
41-year old Shannon Johnson of Orlando believed he was chatting online with a 13-year old female, sent a nude photo, and then travelled to the residence with the intent for sexual conduct with her. He was arrested and charged with: Travel to Meet a Minor/Using Computer to Lure (F2), Attempted Lewd Battery (F3), and Transmit Material Harmful to Minor (F3).
36-year old Jody Rose of Gainesville communicated online and via text with an undercover detective posing as a 13-year old girl. Rose sent sexual images and graphic descriptions of what he wanted to do. A warrant was obtained on Rose for Transmission of Material Harmful to a Minor (10-counts, F3) and Unlawful Use of 2-Way Communication Device (F3), and he was arrested in Alachua County.
27-year old Xavier Jackson of Kissimmee communicated online and via text with an undercover detective posing as a 14-year old girl. During the communication, Jackson sent sexual images and graphic descriptions of what he wanted to do. A warrant was obtained for Jackson for Transmission of Material Harmful to a Minor (3-counts, F3) and Unlawful Use of 2-Way Communication Device (F3).
Other notables…
49-year old Seth Phillips of Bradenton arrived with a woman, 34-year old Christina Garite, with the intent of both committing prostitution with two undercover detectives. When a detective tried to cancel the meet-up due to a scheduling conflict, Phillips became angry, and made demands that the undercover detectives would have to give him money for the appointment and for the drugs he was going to sell them. Phillips showed up at the residence, and when detectives opened the door, he pointed a gun at them. Phillips was arrested and charged with: Attempted Armed Robbery with Firearm (F2), Extortion/Threats (F2), Possession of Meth with Intent to Sell (F2), Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon (4-counts, F3), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (M1), Offering to Commit Prostitution (M2).
42-year old James Compton of Kissimmee told detectives that he is married with eight children, and had left one of his children at a soccer game taking place nearby in order to meet with a prostitute. He was arrested and charged with soliciting a prostitute. Compton was charged with Soliciting a Prostitute (M1).
66-year old Daniel Peters of Palos Hills, Illinois told detectives that he is a retired judge (Cook County 4th Sub Circuit) and a Special Assistant for Legal Affairs at the Cook County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois. He was charged with Soliciting a Prostitute (M1).

Independent NSW MP Gareth Ward has been charged by police with the alleged historical sexual abuse of a man and a teenage boy.
The Member for Kiama, a former Liberal frontbencher, resigned from the ministry and moved to the crossbench in May last year after it was revealed he was being investigated by police.
The 40-year-old attended Oaks Flats Police Station today.
He has been charged with three counts of assault with act of indecency, and one count each of sexual intercourse without consent and common assault.
Detectives allege Mr Ward indecently assaulted a 17-year-old boy at Meroo Meadow in February 2013, and sexually abused a 27-year-old man in Sydney in September 2015.
He was granted conditional bail and is due to face Port Kembla Court in May.
In a statement, Mr Ward said he was completely innocent of the charges.
Premier Dominic Perrottet says he wants Mr Ward to resign from Parliament immediately.(ABC Illawarra)
"I will be instructing my lawyers to seek to bring this matter before the courts as quickly as possible and I look forward to demonstrating my innocence there," he said.
"While others have already attempted to prosecute my case in the media rather than the courts, out of respect for our system of justice I will not be doing the same.
"Accordingly, I will be making no further comment at this time."
Mr Ward moved to the crossbench after confirming he was being investigated by police in May 2021.
At the time, he was serving as Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services under former premier Gladys Berejiklian.
Current Premier Dominic Perrottet issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon saying he would seek Mr Ward's immediate resignation from Parliament.
"While Mr Ward is entitled to the presumption of innocence, as any citizen is, the standards expected of an elected Member of Parliament are not compatible with the seriousness of the charges he is facing," Mr Perrottet said.
"Following discussion with the Acting Premier, I have therefore attempted to contact the Kiama MP to seek his resignation from the Parliament with immediate effect.
"Should Mr Ward not resign, the government will move a motion to remove him from the Parliament."
The Premier said he had also written to the Liberal Party's state director asking Mr Ward be suspended from the party pending the outcome of the criminal case against him.

By Audrey Conklin | Fox NewsUtah authorities have arrested 21 individuals involved in a large-scale human trafficking sting.
The Utah County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO), in collaboration with seven other Utah police departments, Federal Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Utah Attorney General’s Office, rescued three trafficking victims during their operation conducted between Feb. 14-17.
Some victims were trafficked through social media, though UCSO told Fox News Digital it could not disclose which platforms due to ongoing investigations. The sheriff's office noted that some are "less-known or less-used" social platforms.
One of the three rescued victims included an 18-year-old Honduran immigrant.
He had sought help from suspects who eventually "took his passport and his phone and forced him into human trafficking sex operations and would not let him go," Utah County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.
"This young man thought he was working to earn his freedom. He spoke almost no English and felt trapped with no way out," Cannon continued.
Some of the male suspects involved in the case traveled to meet children for sex. One suspect had ropes, sex toys and lingerie in his possession when he was arrested, FOX 13 first reported.
A forensic examination of eight cell phones allowed law enforcement to identify several potential victims, traffickers and a witness who cooperated with authorities.

Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes' office issued a statement Thursday saying it is "observing a growing number of teens are putting themselves in danger" on social media "by getting involved with strangers who pretend to be friendly but who are, in reality, dangerous."
"Young people may not be fully aware of the risk involved," the release states.
The primary focus of the operation was to identify and rescue victims of human trafficking or sex trafficking, USCO said. An investigation into the trafficking case is ongoing.

Eliot Cutler arrested following search of two properties
Cutler, 75, is charged with four felony counts of possession of unlawful sexually explicit materials of subjects younger than 12.
A two-month investigation led police to conduct a search at two of Cutler's residences earlier in the week.
He previously worked for the Carter administration in the 1970s in the Office of Management and Budget. He has also worked for the office of Maine Sen. Ed Muskie, also a Democrat.
Cutler ran for governor in Maine in 2010 and 2014, both times as an independent candidate.
Cutler was held on a $50,000 bail at Hancock County Jail and was expected to appear in court on Monday. Each of the four counts carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Matt Agorist March 27, 2022Roswell, NM — In August of 2020, former New Mexico State Police officer, Ricky Romero, was granted a plea deal after admitting to soliciting and receiving sexually explicit images from an underage girl on social media. Instead of jail time for this child predator, Romero’s badge granted him blue privilege and he was given probation.
Because he pleaded guilty before the trial, Romero was given an 18-month probation on each of the two counts he faced: child solicitation by electronic device, child 13-18; and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to court documents.
As part of the agreement, five other charges: four counts of causing or permitting a child to engage in sexual exploitation, child 13-18; and one count of possession of a visual medium of sexual exploitation, child 13-18, were dismissed or reduced.
Despite the details of the case which were documented using text messages from Facebook messenger, involving a young child, Romero didn’t have to register as a sex offender and was simply allowed to go free on the premise that he wouldn’t do it again.
Like so many other child predators, Romero had multiple victims, another of whom was recently discovered while the officer was out on probation for his other crimes against children. As a result, Romero was once again arrested for preying on children.
According to the United States Attorney’s office for the District of New Mexico, Romero appeared in federal court on March 23 where he is charged with coercion and enticement of a minor and receiving child pornography — again.
According to the indictment and other court records, from March 4 to March 6, 2019, in Chaves County, New Mexico, Romero allegedly coerced a minor to produce child pornography and received videos and images of child pornography on his iPhone. Romero was a New Mexico State Police officer at the time the offenses were committed.
The DoJ states that if convicted, Romero faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison.
If he is indeed guilty of these crimes, hopefully he is not given another sweetheart deal like he was in 2020. Unfortunately, however, if history is any indicator, it is not only possible but likely.As we reported earlier this month, Brian O. Beck, 47, formerly of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee was suspended without pay in June 2018 after allegations came to light that he repeatedly raped a 14-year-old child beginning in 2016 and lasting for over 20 months. He was subsequently charged with two counts of rape by force or coercion and two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.
Beck would have been facing up to 90 years in prison had he been convicted of the four counts upon which he was initially indicted by the grand jury. Instead, he was allowed to plea down to a single misdemeanor assault charge and was sentenced to four years in prison, all of which were suspended — and he will not have to register as a sex offender.
And these cases are a dime a dozen.
In December, we reported on a similar case involving Byrnes Mill officer Ryan Shomaker.Shomaker, 48, admitted to the abuse and pleaded guilty to second-degree sodomy, not once, but twice. On Dec 2 in Jefferson County, and on Nov. 22 in St. Louis County, Shomaker admitted to the crimes against this boy.
In Jefferson County, Shomaker was charged with first-degree statutory sodomy, an unclassified felony punishable by five years to life in prison, and in St. Louis County he was charged with two counts of sodomy. However, he was allowed to plea down to one count each of second-degree sodomy.As the Leader reports, on Dec. 2, Jefferson County Div. 5 Circuit Judge Victor Melenbrink sentenced Shomaker to seven years in prison in the Jefferson County case, and St. Louis County Circuit Judge Joseph Dueker sentenced Shomaker to seven years in the St. Louis County case.
Despite these sentences, after the fact, Shomaker’s sentences were both suspended and this child rapist was given just 5 years probation.
Shomaker’s attorney called the lack of jail for the child rapist, “a fair outcome.”
Also, last September, TFTP reported on a similar travesty of justice when Benjamin Reinhart, a disgraced officer with Genesee County was “sentenced” as part of a plea deal, to just five years of probation. The Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team, or GHOST, caught the officer in April attempting to lure a child for sex. He was on duty at the time. He didn’t even have to register as a public sex offender.

Roswell, NM — In August of 2020, former New Mexico State Police officer, Ricky Romero, was granted a plea deal after admitting to soliciting and receiving sexually explicit images from an underage girl on social media. Instead of jail time for this child predator, Romero’s badge granted him blue privilege and he was given probation.
Because he pleaded guilty before the trial, Romero was given an 18-month probation on each of the two counts he faced: child solicitation by electronic device, child 13-18; and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to court documents.
As part of the agreement, five other charges: four counts of causing or permitting a child to engage in sexual exploitation, child 13-18; and one count of possession of a visual medium of sexual exploitation, child 13-18, were dismissed or reduced.
Despite the details of the case which were documented using text messages from Facebook messenger, involving a young child, Romero didn’t have to register as a sex offender and was simply allowed to go free on the premise that he wouldn’t do it again.
Like so many other child predators, Romero had multiple victims, another of whom was recently discovered while the officer was out on probation for his other crimes against children. As a result, Romero was once again arrested for preying on children.
According to the United States Attorney’s office for the District of New Mexico, Romero appeared in federal court on March 23 where he is charged with coercion and enticement of a minor and receiving child pornography — again.
According to the indictment and other court records, from March 4 to March 6, 2019, in Chaves County, New Mexico, Romero allegedly coerced a minor to produce child pornography and received videos and images of child pornography on his iPhone. Romero was a New Mexico State Police officer at the time the offenses were committed.
The DoJ states that if convicted, Romero faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison.
If he is indeed guilty of these crimes, hopefully he is not given another sweetheart deal like he was in 2020. Unfortunately, however, if history is any indicator, it is not only possible but likely.
As we reported earlier this month, Brian O. Beck, 47, formerly of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee was suspended without pay in June 2018 after allegations came to light that he repeatedly raped a 14-year-old child beginning in 2016 and lasting for over 20 months. He was subsequently charged with two counts of rape by force or coercion and two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure.
Beck would have been facing up to 90 years in prison had he been convicted of the four counts upon which he was initially indicted by the grand jury. Instead, he was allowed to plea down to a single misdemeanor assault charge and was sentenced to four years in prison, all of which were suspended — and he will not have to register as a sex offender.
And these cases are a dime a dozen.
In December, we reported on a similar case involving Byrnes Mill officer Ryan Shomaker.
Shomaker, 48, admitted to the abuse and pleaded guilty to second-degree sodomy, not once, but twice. On Dec 2 in Jefferson County, and on Nov. 22 in St. Louis County, Shomaker admitted to the crimes against this boy.
In Jefferson County, Shomaker was charged with first-degree statutory sodomy, an unclassified felony punishable by five years to life in prison, and in St. Louis County he was charged with two counts of sodomy. However, he was allowed to plea down to one count each of second-degree sodomy.
As the Leader reports, on Dec. 2, Jefferson County Div. 5 Circuit Judge Victor Melenbrink sentenced Shomaker to seven years in prison in the Jefferson County case, and St. Louis County Circuit Judge Joseph Dueker sentenced Shomaker to seven years in the St. Louis County case.
Despite these sentences, after the fact, Shomaker’s sentences were both suspended and this child rapist was given just 5 years probation.
Shomaker’s attorney called the lack of jail for the child rapist, “a fair outcome.”
Also, last September, TFTP reported on a similar travesty of justice when Benjamin Reinhart, a disgraced officer with Genesee County was “sentenced” as part of a plea deal, to just five years of probation. The Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team, or GHOST, caught the officer in April attempting to lure a child for sex. He was on duty at the time. He didn’t even have to register as a public sex offender.
