I just bought this license plate and paid all the fees. A few days later DMV sent me a letter recalling them. Saying that Idaho law SECTION 49-443B allows them to recall them. Such Bull Shit! "This is not over."View attachment 273121
Idaho Transportation Department - September 14th 2022
My grievance with your decision regarding my personalized license plates is as follows:
I ordered personalized license plates on 9/6/22 after finding them available online. I chose to not use the website and decided to go to DMV and order them in person.
I had the clerk at the DMV office help me place the order and I paid for them in full. I received the “IDAHO PROOF OF REGISTRATION (PLATES ON ORDER)” window document for this vehicle. This transaction was 100% completed.
Originally I wanted to get (1776) and it was never available. I have been planning on doing an American Flag vinyl wrap on this Jeep for some time. On 9/9/22 I received a letter from ITD stating that the plates were being flagged and recalled due to having the same format used by a state agency or taxing district. Per Idaho Code 49-443B.
According to this Idaho Statute under TITLE 49 CHAPTER 4 these license plates usually have a “letter designator” on them. These plates are only valid for a period of 10 years and must remain on the issued vehicle unless it is transferred to a different vehicle or canceled by the department. I also see that Personalized / Specialty license plates are exempt for the latter designator.
In my opinion, they still need to follow the requirements of the statute and I do not believe they did or this license plate would not have been available for purchase. If you disagree I want to know what department or agency allegedly currently holds this (1776 2) license plates and registration and why it was listed on the ITD website as available.
I have worked in the public sector for many years and to be told that I can not use 1776 2 or any other format is not only un-American it’s just wrong. It’s not like it was in use in the first place or I would not have been able to complete the purchase.
1776 in any format is a symbol of our Independence, Freedom, and Liberty for the Greatest Nation to ever exist anywhere in the world. I feel that for ITD to designate the use of 1776 as a state agency or taxing district is a huge oversight and should have never been approved.
I refuse to take no as an answer.
I am assuming that the issue at hand is the use of the “1776” and not the number 2 or being of a political nature for the denial.
