Drill HACK 1 Tapping Machine
Made in Poland

Published on Dec 25, 2017
Hi. My name is Darek and in this video I'll show you Drill HACK 1 Tapping Machine.
I used broken AEG drill which, unfortunately, I could not fix, old drill stand which I did not use anymore, cheap cordless drill and taps (link below)

As you've seen on video, the tool works very well. It easily handles threading on m10 screws. I have not tried m12 or m14 because I rarely use such sizes, but I am sure that it will also handle such taps.
If you want to do something like that, pay attention to the chuck because it must have a lot of downforce and have jaws in very good condition. It's best to use a new brand name. In this case, I do not recommend chuck self-locking.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some cheap tools that I use and recommend:

https://goo.gl/quNNcU - Tap and Die Set
https://goo.gl/Sh32kh - 90 Degrees Corner Clamp
https://goo.gl/yBn5Ta - 90 Degrees Angle Aluminum Alloy Rectangular Clamp
https://goo.gl/sgS5eg - 2.5 Inch Plat Nose Pliers Aluminum Alloy Vise
https://goo.gl/GXtWTc - Vise Workbench Swivel 360° Rotating Clamp
https://goo.gl/yk56NG - 5Pcs 15-35mm Professional Woodworking Drill Bits Set
https://goo.gl/R8q7z2 - 4-20mm HSS Step Drill Bit
https://goo.gl/9jmNei - 10pcs 16mm-50mm Steel Carbide Hole Saw

How to Order Concrete: Ep.14
Essential Craftsman

Published on Jan 4, 2018
I have been buying my concrete from Concrete Service
( Umpqua Sand and Gravel) exclusively for 24 years. They have NEVER let me down and I am delighted to introduce them to you in this video. This third generation family business is providing - at no cost to me - the concrete and rock for these retaining walls. If you are getting value from this series will you please let them know you appreciate their support of this channel? Let them know here: http://bit.ly/2lRjHvz
http://www.umpquasand.com

Building a retaining wall of this size in Douglas County Oregon requires a building permit. A building permit gives a property owner the permission required to build a specific structure in a specific place. Any deviation from either of these items could result in failing an inspection and withholding of a "Certificate of Completion". The consequences of not completing a project vary widely. The worst case scenario can be pretty extreme and costly. Although I personally feel that well protected private property rights increase the prosperity of communities and protect scarce resources (like my labor!) I have made the decision 'not to fight city hall'. For the most part I have found the permitting and inspection process in my community manageable and (I must admit) in some cases valuable. Your mileage may vary!

This MTM PF22 Foam Cannon is what you want to use with a pressure cleaner to wash your car. Do not waste money on cheap KO's. I bought a new one on Amazon for $63 delivered. Prices range up to $100 for the same unit.

Heads up on a decent deal on a pressure washer. I just picked up one. They seem to be good, but some fail when mishandled. It is a Ryobi knockoff and for $200 you cannot beat it.

  • Features a Powerful Subaru Engine

  • Includes 0°, 25°, 40° and Soap Nozzles
Was $289.00
$18785 /each

Used it for the first time today to wash my car and knockdown a few wasp nests. What a fantastic deal! The unit was brand new, but shipped in a plain brown box.

Swedish Gearbox Shaft Part 4: Keyways & the Reveal!
Abom79

Published on Jan 6, 2018
Final video for the Swedish metric shaft. This episode I mill the needed keyways in the shaft. I'll show a couple of the tricks I use to measure keyway widths when milling to a precision size.

We also take a look at some of the other machined parts I worked on for the gearbox, some of the gears, and the actual gearbox itself! It's not completed in this video, and there is another section that sits on top of this one that makes up the completed unit. I hope to share more of it later this month.

Antique Beam Drill [Restoration]
Hand Tool Rescue

Published on Jan 11, 2018
The -40 C/F temperatures made this tool restoration harder than it needed to be.

This tool is a beam drill or boring machine made by the James Swan Co. in the early 1900s. I believe this one is the No. 6502 model as it has a solid cast iron frame. An original 1904 catalogue listing is shown here: https://i.imgur.com/e976xJF.jpg. The James Swan Co. existed in Seymour, Connecticut, USA from 1877-1951 and specialized in drilling tools.

I decided to replace all wooden parts as they were either rotten or warped. I originally thought these were made entirely of oak, but some maple pieces showed up during the restoration. The original black japanning was almost entirely gone, so every metal piece was de-rusted and painted with 3 coats of filler primer. I was surprised to see black japanning on the semi-circular guides that allow the drill to be adjusted, as the paint would clearly be scraped and worn off from repeated use.

The non-cast iron pieces seem to all be a fairly low grade of steel, and may even be wrought iron.

The auger bit was severely pitted and definitely needs replacing. I was surprised to see grain structure in the bit, suggesting it may be wrought iron as well. I don't think the auger bit is an original James Swan bit, as those were cast steel and would have been stamped with their logo.

I'd like to thank Evaporust for sponsoring this video. Their product definitely came in handy for this tool that was very rusty and pitted.

A Loftbed for my Tiny House (freefloating)
Laura Kampf

Published on Jan 14, 2018
Thank You, Rockler for your continuing support!
Check out the awesome chisels I use here:
http://www.rockler.com/stanley-sweeth...

I wanted to try something new and decided to go with a wedged mortise and tenon joint...during the build I realized, that that would mean I could never take the bed apart in case i wanted to change something. so I left out the "wedged" part of the joint and simply went with a regular tenon for the looks. the joint are super snug but just to make extra sure nothing comes lose, i screwed everything together from the top through a 18mm birch plywood.
I still need to build a rail and better stairs.
The bed is secured into the metalframe of the trailer...it is super sturdy!

any cool ideas?

Bringing the 32" Gould & Eberhardt Shaper Home
Abom79

Published on Jan 17, 2018
The time has come to bring the new to me 32" G&E shaper home!! I rented a forklift to unload it and help get it inside the shop door, and my co-worker Ken helped me with the ride. My brother Kevin also come to help us unload and get it moved in.
The forklift was overkill, but that's all I could get. Hey at least it made for some cool pictures!

Pouring a Concrete Footing: Ep16
Essential Craftsman

Published on Jan 20, 2018
The cost of the concrete, hiring the finishers, and concrete pumping are all shared and discussed on Patreon http://bit.ly/ecpatreon

We poured 49 yards of concrete in this video. Now ordinarily I would not have had this many men on a pour this size but there were a couple of young friends who just wanted to get a look at how this is done and they found themselves "on screen"!

The concrete poured in this video was donated by Umpqua Sand and Gravel. This makes them the official sponsor of this video and we are very grateful for their contribution. Concrete Service is an fantastic family owed batch plant, if you live anywhere in southern Oregon I highly recommend you use their service.

Pouring a footing is a simpler concrete project since the finished surface is not visible. Pouring a footing is a good place to start with concrete - don't be afraid to try this yourself (just don't start with 49 yards!)

Thanks for the patience while we work to get these videos released. I think you would be very surprised if you knew how much time and effort went into making them. We are trying to make the best videos we can - and sometimes this means it takes a while to get them out. We are going to have to get A LOT faster at this once the house itself kicks off!

1930s Thor Gun Drill [Restoration]
Hand Tool Rescue

Published on Jan 24, 2018
The restoration of this 1930s pneumatic Thor gun-style drill made by the Independent Pneumatic Tool Co. was not supposed to happen.

When my basement flooded this tool was exposed to enough water to make it rust. Luckily, the tool is mostly aluminum, so not too many parts were affected.

I decided to use rust remover and sand-blasting to make sure all parts were de-rusted. I gave everything a decent polish, even the brass name plate. I am fairly sure the drill used grease instead of oil, but I decided that oil would be enough for the use it's going to get.

The drill runs very well now and makes noises like a jet-engine and R2-D2 had some fun. I chose to let you all hear the drill without any sound editing.

I'd like to thank Evaporust for sponsoring this video. The drill needed a good soak as I couldn't reach all the steel parts!

SNS 201: Pump Shaft, Shop Lighting, Shaper Cleanup, New Tooling
Abom79

Published on Jan 27, 2018
In this weeks mix we have some new shop tooling, a tool post set I'm cleaning up for another youtube creator, pump shaft work, shaper clean up, and new shop lighting.
Shop work has been a little slow since I'm in the middle of rearranging and organizing things differently. I'll still have plenty of weekly job shop work I can continue to share while the shop gets sorted out.

G&E Shaper First Time Start Up & Run
Abom79

Published on Jan 27, 2018
I get the new shaper wired up and fired off! I had a little machining to do before I could get it running, one of the oil sights was missing and a cap had to be made to contain the oil properly.
After the first run, I start getting the machine cleaned up.

Up next we'll work on the lube system.
