While I was at the bank I saw some Ikes in the teller's tray. I asked if I could have them and the teller said he had 300 more if I wanted them. Took them all. I have an Ike collection so it was fun for me to go through them and look for varieties. No silvers but it was still a good score. On the silver front I did get a solid role and a half of Silver Kennedy Halves once. It was a nice score for one shot at the bank.

Cut it out.

Yeah, I had a teller inform me a old lady brought in 20 rolls of Franklins. Even after repeatedly telling her to take them to a coin shop the old lady was having none of that and got $200.00 from the teller for her $2500.00 worth of halves. So I am both pissed at the teller and jealous at the same time.

Yeah, I told a similar story about my uncle when he liquidated my grandfather's estate. They were both businessmen but that apple fell further from the tree.

I think I’ve already said this but coin star will reject 90% so always check them. I used to find silver left in the machine all the time.

KEYWORDS :...used to...

I find more pre 82 pennies in my change than any silvers.
The koinstar machines have been corrected. I vendor told me the machines now have another sort bucket for "anomalies".
Very few coins drop out now.

Yep, It hasn't been FREE for me since my mid-thirties when I got married.

So true!!! I found 3 silver Roosie's last year in the Coinstar! Still finding quarters and foreign currency so perhaps no change to correct for anomalies in my Coinstar yet, 500 yen coins, many 1 5 and 10 peso's and a steel cent too.

1 more Roosie found in an old abandoned house!

In January this year I got back some Merc' dimes in my change at Little Caesar's so I asked for all dimes back and got 20 Merc's total!

AND this afternoon I found a thick 14k gold chain in the street on my way back from the airport! a good 5g pure of melt current spot, but that's a whole different kinda find.

Nothing found in banks in years!

That's some sweet luck finding the 14k. My wife and I go on lots of walks. I always have my eye to the ground. In the spring I always make a habit of walking over the left over spots where the snow was piled in the parking lot. Found some money, but never anything too exciting.

I have not found anything this big in years, not since the platinum ring in 2006. Last year I found a couple 14k earing backs and an earring, very small stuff, and a 10k antique pin. It seems rare these days.

I have always found the best stuff, cash and jewelry on the ground, in wealthy areas. Currently I am working temporarily in a very nice area and have been finding numerous quarters but the necklace was a boon!

I call December / January finds the "Christmas Effect'. People converting their change jars into bills and paying cash for Christmas presents instead of whipping out the plastic.

Great find and good strategy to collect more "Mercs".

Past prospecting could pay off again if you used Penny Arcade at TD Bank:
http://www.pennyarcadesettlement.com/index
Payout set at $0.26 per $100 transacted..... If the court approves next January......

10/27 is the deadline to submit a claim form if you used it but didn't have a TD account. If you had an account, payout will be automatic.
Anyone see any payment from this? First round of checks/credits went out in April, second round just hit earlier this month. If you don't still have an account with them it comes as a post card check from what I read, like some rebate checks if you've ever done those. Don't throw those out, especially if you did a fair amount of prospecting as I did.........

Was signing my check when I heard lady cashing in some change and $2 bills....the 50 cent pieces were obvious due to size....then I heard the distinct sound as they spilled on counter. I got I line and bought all $20 dollars that the lady deposited. 4 40% halves and 1 90% halve.....been a long time since I found any

Once every blue moon you find someone's collection or stash that wasn't supposed to go into the coin machine. I got lucky.
YES! Yes, you did. That my friend was a lottery "HIT". Maybe once in a lifetime, but keep checking for awhile. Ya never know.

Got a box of half dollars at the bank and found these!!!
I spent a year getting a box a week from the bank.
Silver was around 30ozt at the time.
Bank was charging me $3.00 per box.
After a year, I figured I had broke even at best.

With your luck, maybe you should have bought one of those billion dollar lottery tickets? Congrats.

Yeah, it was luck. I started doing this a few years back when I had debt. I got in the habit and now I just do it for fun. It’s like free gambling. Breaks down to $1.38 an ounce for 90% and $3.38 an ounce for 40%. Now it helps shave off my Ag cost per ounce a few cents. There are mining costs like gas and time to drive around to banks but I get the boxes for free. Happy Hunting all!

Went into local bank the other day to deposit a check. Teller asked me if I could take her Eisenhower Dollars since she hates to carry them in her drawer. Said she had 24 of them. (She knows I pick through rolls occasionally looking for free silver.) Same lady who always asks me to take her $2.00 bills which I do.

Fine, I will take them and spend them or leave as bar tips. Whatever. Four of them were 40% silver, obviously cut out of the old Blue Ike envelopes.

4 silver Ikes, awesome! I have received several Ikes from banks but have never found silver. I collect Ikes and am trying to find the elusive 1972 Type 2.

I'm getting to old for prospecting so now a days I just goto my LCS and buy all the 90% I want. A little over spot but dealer is nice and puts back some `shiney` for me.

Where ever I know of there is a coinstar, I make it a priority to look in the tray. I was watching a young couple emptying coffee containers in a machine yesterday. They cleaned out kick back tray.

I'd be amazed if they had known.
....and there's been a couple times I've been at a checkout and could hear the distinctive sound of silver when the checker was grabbin' coins out of the drawer.

I can vouch for this, the coin machines have been VERY nice to me.
