"I couldn't decide if I wanted a van or a pickup..." Well, I guess I can check that off my bingo card.

What's next, a limo with a trencher on the back? That would discourage tailgaters...

Great Idea I'll get to working on that now that my "plus" is done.

Yes, I retired recently and built an observatory. Becoming somewhat proficient with PixInsight too. If only the rain would stop ;-)
Congrats on retirement! Looks like you're getting some great use out of the observatory.

I started using PixInsight a while back. Extremely powerful once you get the hang of it. I still have a lot of learning to do with it.

Were you using filters on the nebula pic? The color reminds me of a false color by using different gas filters so I was curious.

Your galaxy pics are great. Your M51 pic has some really good detail being such a relatively compact object.

What kind of scopes have you been using? I can tell it's not a refractor (diffraction spikes).

As someone who knows how much work it is to get images like this; Well done, sir. Hats off to you. :2 thumbs up:

The scope is a planewave 17" and the filters used are H_Alpha, Oiii and Sii. It lacks a lot of data, it was taken before becoming accustomed to taking many exposures over multiple nights. Other stuff and details can be found here - https://www.astrobin.com/users/sink45ny/

17" planewave! You're not messing around! Hey thanks for sharing the pics and all the info. I bookmarked your astrobin.

Clear skies,
Eric

I know, I know, another bird. I tried to get pics of lightning last night and sprites the other night to no avail.

Today is the first time I have seen a scarlet tanager. It keeps coming back and even brought his mate. Actually the female just returned as I am typing this. I have pics of the pair I haven't pulled from the camera yet.

Okay, for something not bird related I took a random pic out my window of some distant horses. I often watch them run around in the distance while I am washing dishes. As the trees/leaves fill in I may lose the view. Before the tornado last September a tree blocked that view anyway.

The male Scarlet Tanager is still here right now as I submit this post. :)

Nice shots Eric. Are you using a macro lens?
Thanks! Using a Tamron 28mm-300mm zoom lens that can focus as close as about 1.6 feet / .49 meters. It is a great lens in terms of versatility and price.

Most of these are at a focal length around 300mm and slightly cropped, the bee one was not cropped.

Indeed, I am busted. :D I had some pics of it oriented the other way as well due to wind but I liked the lighting of this one best. Rotated it to look how it usually looks. I just had a quick moment before my burger was done on the grill to get some quick shots when I noticed it.

Is that rice a roni, the San Fran Cisco treat?
Yellow rice. Made with yellow pepper, onion, garlic, turmeric and chicken bullion.

Man that looks good. My breakfast is usually a handful of almonds, cashews and raisins and if in season maybe blueberries.

Looks like that church steeple is just beggin for it!
There was a lovely cloud to ground strike just left of the steeple when I was framing the shot. I was about 3 seconds too late.
