We are still charleston centered, been coming here since 99... so the invite is out there, but i'll gladly help... keep in mind the beaches in CR are nothing like US beaches. There is an occasional shop to buy but no massive build up of tourist traps, the basics:
MCO, FFL, and MIA all have one stop hops to SJO, usually about 350 to 500, depending on day and season.
September through November is low season and rainy... unless you really enjoy rain I'd avoid..
Mid December into the dry season and high season through April, higher prices dry and hot... sun hotter than FLA..
For me August is perfect, lower humidity, rain every other day starts as a drizzle around 2-5. Hard rain at night, the scenery is a beautiful green compared to the dull green to brown of the dry season..
The hotel can arrange a private shuttle that will pick you up outside SJO airport, up to 4 people is 180 one way, its about a three hour ride. Be sure to stop at the crocodile bridge and just past the JACO sign tell the driver to show you the macaws...
1. Slow cook chicken thighs in crockpot with italian spices in order of importance:
salt, black pepper, fennel seeds, paprika, oregano, basil, parsley
2. Sautee Garlic with olive oil
--when half done
3. Add chopped/clean rapini and sautee with garlic and olive oil until tender
*white pepper is a magic spice when cooking rapini
*sometimes I'll add hot peppers to the mix (roasted, then sauteed with rapini)
4. Add a little olive oil and salt to frying pan, add soft corn tortillas to pan
5. Slice of provolone on each taco.
6. Chicken on half of taco
7. Rapini on other half
8. fry tacos until everything is melted, golden brown taco, and desired level of crispness
We all love Broccoli Raab, so extra gets served as a side dish.
nick -- Does this happen to you? --> Every fargin time I see one of those multi-storey, slab-sided behemoths up close, I immediately think:
"Why would anyone spend a ton of money to be locked up in a prison -- while going nowhere slowly, with a chance of drowning?"
My SIL went on an Alaskan cruise. (First: ToAlaska??) Just before arriving, a whole bunch of the passengers came down with the green apple quickstep and were calling dinosaurs. Herself amongst them. Hadda be removed from the expensive prison ship.
My sister went on a cruise ship. The ship broke down and had to be towed back to port.
My mother went on a cruise ship. It grounded out in the Nassau Islands.
I went on a casino ship out of Ft. Liquordale. They sail out ten miles and the casino opens. I had a gambling budget. Lost the last of it just as the ship started up to go back.
I figure I am the only one in the family who sorta broke even.
I used to live in Jacaranda off Sunrise Blvd & Nob Hill Rd which is 15 mins from Port Everglades in FTL. I took my first wife on cruises all the time. Some big ships and one time a very small boat that rode right up to the docks with no tender needed.
I met lots of musicians from Dion DiMucci to the top Elvis impersonator over the last 30 years. I also met Little Anthony on board.
Go on a nice ship or you will be disappointed. I don't like the huge ships which are like cattle drives where you need to wait in line for everything. I am not a line waiter person.
The locals here in costa rica have been working diligently to reintroduce scarlet macaws, its been a ten year effort but it is amazing how many pairs we saw on this trip. Farmers and exporters moved them out in the 1960's, but we saw 14 pairs on one tree outside of Jaco... they are amazingly colorful to watch..
This combined image of the Phantom Galaxy uses optical data from Hubble and mid-infrared data from Webb. Red colors indicate dust, young stars are in blue and older stars near the center are in cyan and green. Pink indicates areas of star formation.
Looks like a nice time. Getting ready for concert. Enjoying concert. Trip to liquor store. Ending with OTC pain relievers. My biggest advice is: stay hydrated. Drink lots of water, decaf tea, or whatever you like. And keep doing it. That will reduce the hangover.
