Husqvarna 346xp BIG big bore vs 550xp Bench Talk
hotsaws101

Published on Jan 9, 2018
So here we have my personal 346xp BIG, big bore kitted 346xp that we are pitting against the "new and improved" 550xp. Time will tell how they compare so stay tuned....
The 346 BIG, big bore kit is a true 2mil overbore which I did before you could buy the 44.3 mm bb kit which is a 1.3 mil overbore from the factory. We are talking about a 49.32 cc bb kit currently available from the factory versus the one I made back in '06 that has a 45mm bore and is sporting 50.89 ccs of displacement.
My 346 BIG bb (Biggie?) pulls a 24" bar with authority and does pretty good with a 28" bar.
I have a miss quote at 4:02 with the 50.32 number instead of the actual 49.32 which came in a few seconds later - I did mention that I am only human....
If you are interested in some custom saw modifications, please shoot me an email.

Bucking A Nice Red For Master Landon
hotsaws101

Published on Jan 17, 2018
Continuation - seen in the "For Master Landon" video, here we are bucking the 1st 20' log off that nice redwood tree. As stated in the video, Master Landon prefers good falling/logging action over cartoons. Way to go Landon!
The 1st cut was 34" at 20'. 2nd 20' log was a 32" cut. 1st long log was a 40'er at 28". 2nd long log was 32 at 22" and then the last log was a shorty at 16". Plenty of length was realized for the land owner in this tree considering the tops disintegrate when they hit the concrete hard ground. Main thing - Saved the meat.
I am currently available for custom saw modifications. Please shoot me an email if you are interested.

The last Husqvarna I used looked and felt like it was made by Fisher Price and I recall one of the flimsy plastic control widgets coming right off in my hand. Their name has lost all value I previously held in it.

My current saw is the Stihl MS250.

The is one of the oddest issues I have ever seen. The clutch threads appear to be m15 instead of m14. I think this somehow means that there is less surface area to grab the sealing bushing, or no area at all... so there is a leak which toasted a piston :(

I put in a different clutch and the leak stopped instantly.

btw, it was only a vac leak, not pressure. .... gone now. now I have to get another new piston

Hi. My name is Darek and in this video I'll show you Chain Saw HACK 2 - Stump removal tool.

Check out Hack 1 -

I am very happy with the final result. The machine works well, there is no vibrations and the power is sufficient. To make knives, I used a thicknesser blades planer. They are incredibly hard and very sharp.
If you want to do something like that, remember that you do it at your own risk. I recommend using spring washers for all screws and protective covers.

Had my still farm boss for 3 plus years now. Bought it the last year they made it. I think that was 3 or 4 years ago. I sharpen the chain, add gas and oil and go cut wood. It works the way its supposed to work, starts overtime. I drop trees and cut firewood.
I don't earn a living with my saw but I do live through the winters because of it. 400 bucks well spent.
Not sure what they replaced it with and a little surprised they discontinued it to be honest. It's just a great all around saw.

Apologies if info on this had already been posted here. 14 pages is hard to go through. :)

Same here on the MS290. Good saw. As I've posted somewhere back there in all the clutter, I have 5 working saws and one I need to rebuild the carb. The MS290 is the one I use mostly for cutting larger trees, the smaller MS180s I use for smaller trees and brush. The Stihls are the saws I'd grab first, no matter what the job.

Taking On An Ingelmann Spruce
hotsaws101

Published on Jan 27, 2018
Here we have my buddy, Mr. Smith, aka Captn' Processor, working on a good sized Inglemann Spruce at around 4000'. He is using an insane-o-ized ms461 Stihl sporting his own "special" grind chain. Actually does well, considering that he is self taught in both the falling and grinding aspects. Seen here utilizing one of my little tricks for checking the initial start of movement - the ax in the back cut in this instance. Mr. Smith is (a bit of a perfectionist) an excellent mechanic and processor operator and has the aptitude (trainable) to be a good stump maker if that was desired.
We were out, trying to have a little "phun", on a snow day expedition taking out the remaining oversized trees on this 80 acre heavy thinning unit. Hopefully some fun was had.......

Husqvarna 346xp vs. 550xp - Is 15k in the wood possible?
hotsaws101

Published on Feb 1, 2018
Because there seems to be a pretty good fascination with the upper threshold of where a saw runs, we do play around with the tach from time to time.
You can see several aspects of this saw-off verified by mine.
I played around with the carb on the 346 quite a bit but need to back the bench for some slight modifications. I did tighten up the low speed in an effort to thin the fuel out a little bit more but that really did not help. It is seen here sporting a much larger air filter than what comes on them in stock form.
The topend on the 346 is brand new and quite tight sill tolerance wise. The 550 tolerance is loose and more like a "pre-broken" in state.
Also interesting to note that the 550 went over a grand higher rpm wise with a load once the chain dug in a little.
I am currently available for port work. Shoot me an email if you are interested.

Stihl 088 Owning a 42
hotsaws101

Published on Feb 5, 2018
Here we are seen having a little fun playing in the wood lot. We did slice off a few rounds getting the carb somewhat dialed in. This is not the cleanest wood either. You can hear the difference in the chain between the first and second cuts - hit something in the process on the first run.
It still has plenty of gumption though. I was pulling up quite hard on the pistol grip in several of the earlier cuts and noticed just how well this saw pulls.
Cousin Gary is heard as well pleased at how his 088 pulls this length of bar.
Important to note that we only made a few cuts before this video was filmed so it is not even close to being broken in.
If you are interested in port work, please shoot me an email.

Husqvarna 346xp 14,880 Run In The Wood - On Pump Gas
hotsaws101

Published on Feb 7, 2018
It's redemption time for the little saw that could. We have the same Husky 346xp sporting the same untouched chain from the 346/550 saw-off video posted earlier. The only thing different is that I did one small and minor carburetor tweak getting several runs over 14k and one nice 14.88k slice. You can see the log moving (wood density change) in a couple of the runs. You can also see that we are sawing through knots which also affected a couple of the times.
All in all, nice showing for this micro mini howler.
Next up, 15k in the wood on pump gas or bust! I am going to do some cylinder tweaking in trying to get that much sought after and elusive super high rpm cutting in the wood threshold surpassed.
I am currently available for custom saw modifications. If you are interested, please shoot me an email.

We bought 550's at work and the guys hated them...at first. ALWAYS over choked them on cold starts...only got them to run half the time....:)
