201T Saw Chain Comparison
Human

Published on Oct 9, 2016
Nabbed a couple different chains for my trim saw and compare the cutting speed of them. Of course the full chisels are faster, but they also dull faster as well. A trade off depending on your style.

Chains are.
Stihl 63PM
Stihl 63PS3
Stihl 63PS
Oregon 91VXL

Both the PM & PS are discontinued, only available currently as PM3 & PS3, the low kickback versions.

Sachs Dolmar, my brother gave it to me 25 years ago. It is easy to handle (well balanced) and you can't slow it down. I had to replace the engine mounts once, other than that just file chains and add gas.
Great saws. My girl bought me a Dolmar 510 about 10 years ago.
Lots of power for a homeowner saw.

I got tired of having to fix a chainsaw every time I wanted to use one, so I got rid of all my poulans and bought two stihls. The big one, an MS391, has worked flawlessly since I've owned it, but this 211 is borderline under powered for a 16 inch bar. If I could do it over again, I would replace the 211 with a 271 farm boss. The added weight would be worth it for the extra engine displacement.

Falling some big, rotten cottonwood trees

Glad these trees are down. Have not used my big saws in quite a while, so I wanted to burn out the cob webs. Also wanted to try out the wicked dawgs that my buddy made for me. Bar was overkill for these trees, but I didn't feel like mounting a shorter bar and grinding the chain, since I already had this one mounted, and ground. I hate how rusty I get when I have not used a saw in a while, and consequently mismatch undercuts like that second and third tree.

Huztl / AM MS660 HTSS Update, Where are they now? Here Is A Couple At Work
afleetcommand

Published on Oct 23, 2016
So these guys were cutting firewood and asked if I could bring a couple of interesting saws for them to try at their work site...I was a "guest", didn't know what they had other than my coworker's MS660. Figured it had been well received....why not a couple more??

One MS660 there has been out working for a while, the one with the "Stihl" brand 25 inch B&C. My personal MS660 HTSS ( Hill Top Saw Shop ) saw with a 56mm Farmertek top end and Total Super Pro Lite 20 inch saw has been a "Go To" saw for me this last year and also has time on it. The third MS660 with the 20inch Forester Platinum Bar with Oregon LGX was on loan a bit south of here this last year. It didn't get much use so I figured it needed to go where there was actual interest. Its going to get worked hard is my guess. That saw is pretty much assembled with as delivered parts. Has an OEM chain adjuster & a couple of other bits and pieces. Most of the hard parts are Huztl/Farmertek.

Saw Chain Cutting Speed Comparison.
Human

Published on Oct 25, 2016
Picked up brand new 36RM, 36RSC, and 36RSL chains. Do some timed cuts to see the difference in cutting speed between the three. Varied the pressure applied to try to find each chains sweet spot.

If you're unfamiliar:
-Round Ground Semi-chisel -Slowest Cutting -Longest Stay Sharp
-Round Ground Full-chisel -Faster Cutting Than Semi -Shorter Stay Sharp Than Semi
-Square Ground Full--chisel -Fastest Cutting Of The Three -Shortest Stay Sharp Of The Three

Which is why I was surprised by the times of these cuts. Not sure, but I'm thinking I screwed something up. I did see the little stub on the bottom, didn't think it would make a noticeable difference.

Lots going on in this video and I left a lot out to keep things simple. Took a few of my project saws out to run them back to back to back with the same Sprocket, Bar, Chain, and test log.

A couple of things, when I do a no base gasket build; I ONLY use the Three Bond Brand products. Reason is I have yet to see one fail AND I have seen other brand gasket maker products fail. The Three Bond is both an adhesive and a gasket material. It's been used for years in the Automotive and Motorcycle industries. To this point, going on ten years of using it; none of mine have failed.

Also it is a technic that works on saws with wide gasket surfaces like the 576, 575, and 365/372 X-Torqs. Some saws it simply is a bad idea for example 562/555 series saws should not be built without a gasket. I cover that in another video...about interference issues with 562's....SO if you are not certain, don't do it!

Muffler mods. Open mufflers aren't a good idea in dry parts of the country especially pine forests. Need to build in spark arrestors. Out here in the east coast where things are wet....still a better idea to have a spark arrestor. I'll do a video on how to build those into those "tube" modified mufflers as I typically tack a screen to the inside. Designing a slip fit arrestor for that style muffler so you have a choice.....

Notice I'm also on a PPE kick....upgraded mine. Plan to try and review brands and options as time goes on. I believe money well spent is buying the absolute best PPE's you can get access too. Hoping to spend time on first the major brands, and second some cool concepts sold by lessor known brands...
