not the GIM way, so here goes,

Guys, I said knock off the personal attacks,

from here on, the ban hammer comes out on anyone beating the hell out of another poster,

everyone got that?

it won't matter if it is retaliation/instigating/whatever

knock it off, as it now permeates the forum and I am done with it,

don't like somebody, don't care, ignore them
Gracias!

I've requested this before - a "No Thanks - I do NOT agree" button, alongside the "Thanks" button.

That would go a long way towards "venting", without going into long "hashing-outs"...

Good idea dacrunchie. I have been on some forums where there are 2 button's. :.................

One states "Thank you for this useful post"

The other states "F*** off for this piece of $hit"

At least people know where they stand................albeit lacking a bit on finesse.........

Then again........if you don't like a particular post - go after the post, not the poster. Pick the post apart and show where it's wrong, incorrect, what-ever. Or simply move on to another thread. And if you don't care for a particular poster why not simply stop reading his/her posts. Or if you don't have enough self-discipline to do that, simply put that poster on ignore. JM2C

dacrunch,

Yes you have, and thanks for that,

I will give you my reasons/rationale for not going there,

For one, there are those that would wear it as a badge of honor, how many no thanks they can build up,

For another, much as we have persons rating threads 1 star because they can't stand the poster, the same would become prevalent there in that no matter what someone states, they will get a no thanks,

and being from the 'just think positive, ignore the negative' school of thought, it kind of adds a negative side to GIM,

not sure we want to go there,

But if you guys poll it up and think we should, as a way to go forward, I will certainly acquiesce to what is best for all,

I still carry around this stupid altruistic vision that GIM doesn't have to go there to be a great forum of info,

I vote "less is more". We already have a thanks button - that says it all, and the rating system, which also says it all. We have "ignore" which i have used in the past, and no doubt others have me on ignore. I also get to take them off ignore when I've had time to calm down. Do we really need a "No thanks", "Hated it", or "Bite Me" button?. Why stop there ?

Beyond PMs, there are many interesting, important, and sometimes bizarre topics posted here. I can't think of another web site that has the broad range of individuals, academics, and characters that GIM2 has. I certainly have my opinions, and not everyone hits the "thanks " button after I post - np.
I'd rather have someone respond and constructively counter my position than a button that says "No Thanks" - in the past, people have offered up arguments against my position that caused me to rethink.

Emotionally charged debates are good, but when you've exhausted all your arguing points and find yourself resorting to name calling, you've lost the debate - log out.

This site is a bit different from any other I've seen...there's the full spectrum of opinions from all vantage points put out...everything from the pro-socialist to the Ayn Rand ultraconservative.

The thing to do, when a group of knuckleheads get together and start running down cops, or drug laws, or anything else that's beyond the realm of good sense or practicality...if it makes you turn purple in the face...just ignore it.

If you don't agree and want to get into it, do so...attack the message, never the messenger. But I don't think a DO NOT AGREE button would do much, other than gum up the works.

I agree with Joseph in that less is more. He summed it up nicely and I think the "No thanks" or down thumb would just turn things into a negative atmosphere. There is a lot of great information and articles that are shared that are somewhat 'controversial.' I can just see a bunch of down votes for no reason at all.

I like this development. IIRC, one thing that made GIM1 great was that you could post pretty much anything; the only thing that wasn't allowed was personal attacks. I'd like to see that sort of policy and atmosphere reemerge at GIM2.

edit: oh, we don't need any thumbsdown/no thanks crap either.

In my never to be humble opinion there is entirely too much of this going on...
I agree and I am guilty of that. But as a discussion forum, part of that is discussing. Would be boring if we stopped discussing as soon as someone disagreed with us. There is a good way to discuss and a bad way. When it starts moving towards name calling, personal attacks, intimidation and the usual methods to attack the messenger, that is where it starts to cross the line. Discussion is good IMO.

I've been called all types of names: racist, liberal, Obama supporter. (Despite the fact that I'm critical of my own race, a long time dr Paul supporter and want Obama arrested.)

When I ask to show proof, there is NEVER a response.

The personal attacks and trolling sure seem to have dropped a lot over the past several days. What happened?

Swarming
Honey bee
A new honey bee colony is formed when the queen bee leaves the colony with a large group of worker bees, a process called swarming.
In the prime swarm, about 60% of the worker bees leave the original hive location with the old queen.

Now that's an interesting way of putting it :beerglass:

It is really nice here now. Almost like an early spring clean took place, windows have been opened for a fresh breeze and the trash has been taken out.

Yeah Cornelius,

it takes a village............
Hi Scorp,

Thanks for the thanks. However, every time I see the phrase "It takes a village", it reminds me of Hillary Clinton of the early 1990's making that statement, and it disgusts me. Because I think "Communism", when that phrase is used.

Sorry. :(

One of the reasons I hardly ever post anymore was all the trolling, casting bait as Irons calls it, that and certain posters seem to only be here to disrupt.

I agree, there are certain members posts I wont even open to see as I already know its going to be divisive.

How about a counter displaying the # of members that have you on ignore?

Does anybody see this post?

Or is everyone ignoring me :fisheye:
