Rollin on TV 2018-09

On this week’s show we meet Lisa Mora, founder and publisher of Vintage Trailer
Magazine. Jeff Johnston spent a day with Lisa and learned how her love of vintage
trailers and hot rods combined with her love of adventure and travel all come together
in the pages of her magazine.

We’ll also show you her vintage 1949 trailer and 1953 Hudson Hornet that are her home
away from home when she’s out on the road doing her stories.

Also on this week’s show, Jeff Johnston shows us how easy it is to get ourselves into a dangerous situation if we’re not careful around an RV gas stove.

Plus, Mark and Dawn Polk from RV Education 101 fill us in on some very common towing mistake made by many RVer’s.

These stories and our Thetford Titan contest are on this week’s episode of Rollin’ On
TV.

Well, 4000 miles later, I regret not having mounted a rear-view camera... Backed into a tree in a parking lot, ugly dent in back door... Along with a row of scratches on the left rear fender from a stone/coral wall turning in a tight street... Well, your vehicle is only 'new' the day you buy it...

Otherwise, I did the "chip reprogramming" and went from 130hp to 180hp, now no problems with hills, hairpins, passing on freeways... Lots less shifting gears.

Avoiding the toll roads, seeing beautiful countrysides (great biking roads through mountain passes too, hairpins galore, 8-foot wide roads... thankfully little traffic!) Did this road 3 days ago in the camper!!! (wife was sh...ing bullets, haha!)

Guess I better get one for my not so new '89 E-350 class B+ or class C (not sure what to call it as it does not have the overhead bunk), motorhome.

We've got it running and mostly restored to usable condition. Better go get me a backup camera as the mirrors don't see much.

While you're at it, a "beep-beep" reverse noise-maker for people walking behind you...

Woman buys an old Greyhound bus for $7,000 and spends THREE YEARS (and $70,000) transforming it into a chic and stylish mobile home, complete with two bedrooms, a bathroom - and even a kitchen

  • Jessie Lipskin, 30, from Manhattan, was scrolling through eBay one day when she came across a 1966 GMC Greyhound Commuter bus
  • What followed were three years of remodeling the bus into a home on wheels so she could combine her desire to down-size and live an eco-friendly lifestyle
  • She said: 'I was working long hours in finance at the time and I felt like there was something else out there'
  • Some of the renovations and additions she made to the bus included LED lighting with dimmers, a kitchen with a large sink, drawers, wooden countertops and an oven and stove top

The most rugged yet luxurious off road campers ever made - Black Series Campers
mixflip

Published on Jun 17, 2018
While at the Overland Expo West 2018 I discovered an of road trailer company that impressed me.

Why? Because they make a super luxurious camper that is actually built to go rock crawling! Yes it is built super tough with the beefiest trailing link air bag independent suspension on an extra thick steel frame, 2 full size spare tires and rock sliders...but the interior is very high end with a queen size bed, tile back splash, sink, stove, oven, microwave, full size shower, full size toilet, full size sink and two 20 pound propane tanks!

Some may discount a trailer this high end for overlanding but I think it would be great for the full time RV'er who wants to travel 200 miles deep in the back country to live off grid for long periods of time. If you are going to be out there for a long time you might as well be comfortable right?

What do you guys think?

Harris Beach State Park - Brookings, Oregon
Love Your RV

Published on Nov 17, 2018
Part of the 2018-19 Snowbird Trip playlist. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...

In this video, I show you a bit of the pretty Harris Beach State Park campground. The campsites are set in a pretty forest on a bluff overlooking a beautiful beachscape. Access to the beach is a few minutes walk or drive away.

Harris Beach State Park is located in Brookings on the Oregon Coast. We visited in mid-November on our way south for the winter. Full hookups for $32 a night.

I was impressed by the views and the number of beaches and trails to explore along this section of the coast. Many great nooks, crannies, and little coves to chill out at or take in the sunset.

The weather was nice with highs in the 60s and little wind. Not usually the case during the wet, stormy fall.

See More Oregon coast RVing info and places to visit in the Love Your RV! archives - https://www.loveyourrv.com/tag/Oregon/

Rustic WOOD HEATED Van Conversion with FIVE SECOND bed system
Nate Murphy

Published on Nov 29, 2018
Get the Van Conversion Guide: https://goo.gl/z9bhYU

This is Maya a really nice rustic Sprinter Van conversion built on a budget and resulting in a very cozy van home!

Hire this van with Quirky Campers: https://goo.gl/YSLxNa

The van is a Mercedes Sprinter 310d 1999with a 5 cylinder chain driven engine (no cambelt) which they call the million mile engine due to its reliability and that it essentially goes forever!

The bed construction is pretty smart. He uses a sofabed mechanism to allow his bed to be put out and taken away in seconds. Using ready-made components in this way is a good way to get high functionality without loads of effort!

This van has a compressor fridge, gravity feed water system, wood stove, LED lighting, lithium battery with relay and solar panel system.

The wood stove is pretty cool, it does seem to take up a fair bit of space - but at the same time in a very cold winter, it would certainly make the van really warm!

I love the clever use of space and that it has great cooking and living facilities while not being a super expensive build.

I hope you enjoyed this tour, don't forget to help us out by liking and subscribing :)

By the time you are done factoring in your time and money you can get a nice used unit

Much less

And it doesn't look like a half assed hillbilly chinamans home

I will build you a quality unit if you pay me lots.

Retired engineer builds transforming, off-grid, stealth campervan
Kirsten Dirksen

Published on Mar 10, 2019
With two years and $20,000, retired winery engineer Dave Orton turned a Ford Transit into a completely off-grid van home that sleeps two, seats four, and includes a toilet, kitchen and indoor shower.

Adding 80/20 aluminum extrusions to a stripped down transit van, Orton built up a kitchen unit with two fold-out tables (one indoor, one outdoor) and bedroom/living room where all furniture can be removed to haul cargo. The toilet room converts into a shower.

Orton designed an electrical system that provides adequate power without the need for shore power or a generator to keep the house battery charged.
