[SHOT 2018] OSS Helical QD Silencers
TFB TV

Published on Jan 24, 2018
In this episode of TFBTV, James speaks with OSS at SHOT Range Day about their 3-piece Gen 4 silencers and their new 1-piece Gen 5 Helical QD suppressors. They are lighter and several hundred dollars cheaper than the three-piece Gen 4.

From OSS's Website re: Helical SIlencers:

SUPERIOR BACKPRESSURE REDUCTION
Baffle suppressors block expanding gases from fired rounds. This increases barrel and chamber pressure as much as 350psi causing significant weapon malfunctions and toxic blowback into the shooter’s face.

OSS suppressors add less than 30psi to backpressure while redirecting and venting expanding and toxic gases forward out the muzzle and away from the shooters face.

REDUCED BOLT VELOCITY
As gas expands rapidly backward in operating systems using a baffle suppressor, bolt velocity (BV) increases as much as 22%. This negatively impacts weapon performance and shooting experience with increased felt recoil, muzzle rise, and multiple malfunctions.

OSS suppressors do not increase bolt velocity (on some platforms BV is actually reduced), and dramatically reduces felt recoil and malfunctions.

REDUCED FLASH SIGNATURE
Baffle suppressors do provide flash reduction, but they often create a first round plume and sound pop. And with extreme firing conditions, baffle suppressors have been shown to lose flash suppression effectiveness as heat and carbon buildup increase.

OSS suppressors effectively mitigate flash and sound signatures in all conditions and rates of fire.

REDUCED THERMAL SIGNATURE
Because baffle suppressors block expanding gases, the energy from rounds fired gets trapped causing high and prolonged heat and degraded suppressor life. Thermal gains spike quickly with semi-auto fire, and even faster with full-auto fire.

By allowing gas to expand and energy to transfer forward at a natural rate, OSS suppressors deliver effective thermal management with some models experiencing 70% lower temperatures than comparable baffle cans.

NO SOUND SUPPRESSION COMPROMISE
While it’s proven that OSS’s Flow-Through technology delivers superior backpressure, bolt velocity and heat reduction, some have questioned OSS’s ability to deliver hearing safe sound suppression comparable to the best baffle suppressors. With the same rifle type, ammo and weather conditions, we recently tested an OSS 5.56 suppressor against three of the leading 5.56 baffle cans. The results should silence any doubts.

In this video we discuss the new Rogue series of multipurpose and precision centerfire silencers from our friends at KGmade Suppressors. We have collected metering data over the course of several months in various weather conditions and contrary to popular belief, data does change and can be quite misleading throughout the industry when comparing different silencers across the board. We'll be discussing this in a future video, regardless the data we collected at the shooter's ear during the filming of this video is posted below so you can get an idea of how well these different cans actually perform. The Rogue 30 and 338 come with your choice of muzzle device as well a branded Cole-TAC Metal Python suppressor cover making for a great value overall. Stay tuned, much more on the way.

Daniel Defense DD Wave 3D Printed Silencer
The VSO Gun Channel

Published on Mar 7, 2018
The DD Wave is a new silencer from Daniel Defense based on the concept of 3D printing or additive manufacturing. Sound Suppressors have long been limited in technology by traditional machining practices. With the integration of 3D printing, internal geometry can be achieved that would otherwise be very difficult to achieve. The can is constructed of a variety of metals including stainless steel and titanium; more in depth data can be obtained from Silencer Shop:

Hitting the range with Q's compact .30 caliber suppressors, the QD Trash Panda and the direct thread Half Nelson to pick a favorite. These all titanium cans are extremely lightweight and, thanks in part to their larger-than-usual 1.75" diameter, very quiet for their length.

"Declassified" 3D Printed SMG Silencers: The Delta P Brevis III for the H&K MP7 and SIG Rattler
TFB TV

Published on Apr 7, 2018
In this episode of TFBTV, James reports from Nellis Air Force Base outside of Las Vegas and gets hands-on with the Delta P BREVIS III SMG silencers for the SIG Rattler in .300 Blackout and the H&K MP7. The Brevis III silencer is 3D printed and, according to Delta P, "surpasses conventional technology and meets the full range of NATO suppressor requirements. Based on the proven BREVIS II, the BREVIS III adds features to reliably suppress machine guns from the MP7 to the M2 BMG."

The BREVIS III suppressors are smaller, lighter, and more durable than typical machined silencers and are thus more readily able to resist extreme heat and pressure.

The titanium MP7 silencer is only 4.8in (120mm) long and weighs just 8.3oz (235g) with an average sound reduction of 1m to left of muzzle of 28.5dB. 4.6x30mm Fiocchi 40gr FMJ runs at a cyclic rate within approx. 10% of the unsuppressed rate.

The Rattler suppressor is made entirely of Inconel steels and offers similar performance, but weighs about 15 ounces. The additional heft of steel is needed to handle the more powerful .300BLK.

Silencer Cleaning (First Time): Lyman TurboSonic 6000 Performance Testing
The VSO Gun Channel

Published on Apr 15, 2018
This is the first time I have cleaned my Griffin Optimus Silencer after years of use. Today we are going to be testing the performance of an ultrasonic cleaner, the TurboSonic 6000 from Lyman products. To note, this is an all stainless steel sound suppressor, however We will also be cleaning the Rugged Obsidian, to show how to clean a partially aluminum can.

While this is an instructional video for silencers- this sonicator isn't just good for gun parts as it has several secondary functions (like a heater) that make it great for cleaning small car (automotive engine) parts like carburetors, Jewelry, and electronics. This device would be right at home in a laboratory as a piece of scientific lab equipment.

HK Mk23 Mod 0 OHWS with KAC Silencer

The HK Mk23 Mod 0 pistol was adopted by USSOCOM as an Offensive Handgun Weapon System (OHWS). It went up against the Colt entry which is either known as the Colt SSP or Colt OHWS pistol. The Mk23 made by Hecker & Koch is a huge hunk of lovable polymer and steel that when coupled with the Knights Armament Mk23 silencer, it's truly my favorite suppressed .45 caliber pistol. You'll see why after watching this video.

Silencer VS Suppressor: What's the Difference?
The VSO Gun Channel

Published on May 23, 2018
What's the Difference between a silencer and a suppressor? There is a big misconception on these regulated NFA items (tax stamp, form 4, sin tax, unconstitutional background check), correcting people and infighting over terminology. It really serves no purpose. However, to set the record straight, most people are technically wrong with the use of the term suppressor over silencer.

Taking a look at POI shift in silencers. What causes the point of impact to change when using a sound suppressor? In this instance we used the MK-47 Mutant in 7.62X39mm and the Rugged Surge to test how a premium can handles a loaded test and how to prevent this.

World's Smallest Silencer: Bowers Bitty
The VSO Gun Channel

Published on Jul 4, 2018
The Bowers Bitty was recently announced. The suppressor is designed for the very popular .22LR Cartridge. We recently did a head to head with the Rugged Oculus but it was less than a thorough video on the Bitty. This is perhaps the worlds smallest functional silencer so we are going to do a full vid. As always we suggest you go to Silencer Shop to see all the technical data that didn't make this video. Unfortunately, due to YouTube's censorship policies we cannot provide you a direct link. Other notable mentions in this video are the Volquartsen Scorpion pistol, Trijicon RMR, and the Midwest Industries optics mounts.

Oh and by the way. Bowers thought you all were very cool with the head to head so they have decided to give away one of their Bitty cans.

SureFire SOCOM-300 SPS Suppressor Rundown
TFB TV

Published on Aug 4, 2018
In this episode of TFBTV, Ivan (from Kit Badger) runs down the SureFire SOCOM 300 SPS Suppressor. Arguably SureFire's quietest 30 Caliber Suppressor. While designed around the 300 Blackout Cartridge, and full auto rated down to a 5.5" barrel, it can serve on various weapon platforms. Whether it is 5.5" Sig Rattler or a 20" 300 Win Mag bolt gun, this suppressor will preform. Check out some of the nuances with this 300 SPS suppressor versus the SureFire SOCOM 762 RC2.

NO SILENCERS for Home Defense

VIDEO: BEST GUN for Home Defense - https://youtu.be/i3sLHGduI3w

VIDEO: Silenced .22 from EDC Bag (from clip in video) - https://youtu.be/L7eXBp564H4

Cans / suppressors / silencers are cool and have a bunch of great applications ranging from clandestine military operations, to recreational shooting for hearing protection. Though I love suppressors, I do not advocate using them for home defense. When I released a video on the best gun for home defense awhile back, I mentioned this in passing, and many people adamantly disagreed and cited that I would damage my hearing and i wouldn't be able to communicate with my family. In this video, I tackle these objections (which are pretty fair IMO), and talk through some other considerations that I believe are even more important.

B&T SILENCERS - Innovation and Controversy

B&T got its start in the firearms world by Karl manufacturing silencers in Switzerland. That evolved into manufacturing firearms and finding great success with his designs. He's partnered with global powerhouses like HK and designed small arms used by militaries and police units world wide. In this video we talk about B&T's early days and their silencer designs. We also learn some interesting history that feeds the arguments online as to who came up with what first.

This guy might know something, but he does not know the proper way to write the date. At 8:00 he ridicules the Europeans, so do I, BUT not on this, for being "backwards" concerning a date written 14/5/71. This is the way EVERYONE on earth does it, but us, even our military writes day/month/year, it is the proper sequence. I made missile drawings for many years & learned the right way to display a date. It is interesting, the remarks I get, until I explain that day/month/year is really the correct way.
You might call this nit picking, but he started it !!! :winks2:

How loud is a rifle down range when silenced?

We've been asked many times to do a test where to measure the sound of a rifle shot down range between a OSS and other baffled type silencers. So we do just that. We take a meter down range and test an un-suppressed shot and suppressed shots with two different silencers from 25 yards to 400 yards.

Please watch OSS's video on the same subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYmN2...

The only reason the military does it is NATO.

LoL my first job task as an engineer was converting our engineering drawings from metric to US Standard so that the hillbillies out in the floor didn't shit kittens

I sent out a job packet one afternoon with the engineering drawings and it wasn't 2p minutes before Pc/Qc, the Floor manager, the floor supervisor, and the lead setup man came stomping in my direction mostly less than amused......

Screw the eurofags, I don't give a fuck what they do or why.

Telephone numbers are written (555) 867-5309

Dates are written month/day/year

When I was doing engineering drawing on missiles, Minuteman, TOW & Shillelagh, it was Day, Month Year, the proper sequence. I still do it & it screws with people's minds !!
BTW, we are the only country, that I know of, that does it out of sequence. Pretty stupid in my book !

The logical sequence would be year, month and day, consistent with the sequence of distinctions the reader would draw.

Yes, you read right. In this video we attempt to kill a can and we have no idea what might happen. This particular high performance, 5.56 caliber 718 Inconel/321 Stainless Steel hybrid silencer is the debut model from a new local company, RMS2 Suppressors, using old school and proven Omega baffle technology developed by Joe Gaddini of SWR fame. Running any suppressor on a rifle will keep more of the hot gases in the operating system for longer and increase the stress on the barrel, gas block, gas tube and bolt carrier group. We are running a standard 16" DI barrel AR-15 and M855 NATO spec ball ammo for this test. Stay tuned, much more on the way.
