Some Came running - Stars Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Shirley MacLaine. who received an Oscar nomination for best actress. Filmed on location in Madison, Indiana and released in 1958. This clip is presented for educational purposes and constitutes fair use.

To read more anecdotes about the filming visit Shirley MacLaine's web site.

On a side note. Many locations for this film were filmed in Madison IN. However I believe this exterior was shot in Hollywood. The TV series "Twilight Zone" filmed part of "The monsters are due on Maple St." in front of the same house.

Alan Freed and His Rock and Roll Band - Rock and Roll Boogie (from the movie Rock Rock Rock - 1956)
John1948OneA

Uploaded on Jan 18, 2012
Disk jockey Alan Freed is widely credited with coining the term "rock and roll" to describe the uptempo black R&B records he played as early as 1951 on Cleveland radio station WJW. Freed called himself "the Moondog" and billed his show as the "Moondog Rock 'n' Roll Party." A tireless and enthusiastic advocate of the music he played, Freed kept time to his favorite records by beating his hands on a phone book. He called it rock and roll because "it seemed to suggest the rolling, surging beat of the music." The Freed-sponsored 1952 Moondog Coronation Ball in Cleveland is believed to be the nation's first rock and roll concert. After conquering Cleveland, he took his show to WINS New York. There, he further spread the gospel of rock and roll via TV, movies and the celebrated all-star shows he promoted at Brooklyn's Paramount Theater. Those stage shows remain the essential rock and roll revues of the era.

Later, the tangled favors of this period would come back to haunt him in the payola scandals of the late Fifties. Amid the atmosphere of a witch hunt, Freed steadfastly maintained that he never played a record he didn't like. Nonetheless, he was blackballed within the business and died a broken man in 1965.

Claudine Clark - Party Lights
JohnB1948Three

Uploaded on Mar 2, 2009
Claudine Clark was the one-hit wonder responsible for the 1962 smash "Party Lights," and she was more responsible for it than most other female singers would have been: she also wrote the music and lyrics herself. Born in Macon, GA, Clark grew up in Philadelphia and received formal musical training at the local Coombs College. She recorded her first single, "Angel of Happiness," in 1958 for the Herald label, but it failed to attract much attention, as did a brief stint at Gotham. Clark subsequently caught on with Chancellor, a label best known for teen idols like Fabian and Frankie Avalon. Her first single, "Disappointed," initially flopped, but when DJs started playing the Clark-penned flip side, "Party Lights," it became a huge hit. Sung from the point of view of a teenage girl ordered to her room while her friends were out having a good time, "Party Lights" struck a chord and shot into the Top Five on both the pop and R&B charts. Bizarrely, Chancellor followed it with the morbid "Walkin' Through a Cemetery," which stalled Clark's commercial momentum; by the time "Walk Me Home From the Party" appeared to continue the story line, the moment had passed, and neither it nor "The Telephone Game" could recapture the public's attention. Clark later attempted to compose a rock & roll operetta, and also recorded for Swan under the alias Joy Dawn, all to little avail. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

THE TEMPTATIONS - Get Ready 1966)
pupovac zlatko

Published on Oct 26, 2013
"Get Ready" is a Motown song written by Smokey Robinson, which resulted in two hit records for the label: a U.S. #29 version by The Temptations in 1966, and a U.S. #4 version by Rare Earth in 1970.The original Temptations version of "Get Ready", produced by Smokey Robinson, was designed as an answer to the latest dance craze, "The Duck". The Temptations' falsetto Eddie Kendricks sings lead on the song, which Robinson produced as an up-tempo dance number with a prominent rhythm provided by Motown drummer Benny Benjamin. In the song, Kendricks informs his lover to "get ready" because "I'm bringin' you a love that's true". Melvin Franklin sings lead on the pre-chorus: "fe, fi, fo, fum/look out/'cause here I come" along with several other similar lines. The song made it to number one on the U.S. R&B singles chart, while peaking at number twenty-nine on the pop charts. In 1966, The Supremes covered the song on their 1966 album The Supremes A' Go-Go. In 1967, Dusty Springfield performed a live version of the song at the British Broadcasting Corporation's television series "Dusty".

Mary Hopkin - Temma Harbour (Top of The Pops - Jan 29, 1970)
John1948NineB

Published on Jan 14, 2015
Mary Hopkin (born 3 May 1950), credited on some recordings as Mary Visconti, is a Welsh folk singer best known for her 1968 UK number one single "Those Were The Days". She was one of the first musicians to sign to The Beatles' Apple label.

Early singing careerHopkin was born in Pontardawe, Wales into a Welsh-speaking family and her father worked as a housing officer. She took weekly singing lessons as a child and began her musical career as a folk singer with a local group called the Selby Set and Mary. She released an EP of Welsh language songs for a local record label called Cambrian, based in her home town, before signing to The Beatles' Apple Records. The model Twiggy saw her winning the British ITV television talent show, Opportunity Knocks and recommended her to Paul McCartney. She became one of the first artists to record on the Beatles' Apple record label.

Her debut single, "Those Were the Days", produced by Paul McCartney, was released in the UK on 30 August 1968 (catalogue number APPLE 2). Despite competition from a well-established star, Sandie Shaw, who released her version of the same song as a single that same year; Hopkin's version became a number one hit in the UK Singles Chart, and reached Number 2 in the US Billboard Hot 100. It sold over one and a half million copies in the United States alone, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A.. Global sales topped the eight million mark. On 2 October 1968 Hopkin appeared at St Paul's Cathedral, London for the 'Pop Experience' where she sang "Morning Of My Life", "Turn Turn Turn" and "Plaisir D'amour".

In December 1968 the NME music magazine reported that Hopkin was sympathetically considering a lead acting role in Stanley Baker's forthcoming film, The Rape of the Fair Country. That particular project did not materialise but Hopkin did sing the title songs to two of Baker's films, Where's Jack? and Kidnapped.

On 21 February 1969 her debut album, Postcard, also produced by McCartney, was released. It included covers of three songs from Donovan, who also played on the album, and one song each from George Martin and Harry Nilsson. It reached number three on the UK Albums Chart, although it proved to be her solitary success story in that particular chart. In the United States Postcard reached Number 28 on the Billboard albums chart.

The next single was "Goodbye" written by Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon/McCartney), released on 28 March 1969 (APPLE 10); it reached Number 2 in the UK Singles Chart. It was kept off the top of the charts by the Beatles' single "Get Back". "Goodbye" has never been officially released by the Beatles, although a demo version can be found on some of the Beatles' bootlegs.

Hopkin's third single, "Temma Harbour", was released on 16 January 1970 (APPLE 22) and peaked at Number 6 in the UK Singles Chart in February. In March, she represented the United Kingdom in the 1970 Eurovision Song Contest singing "Knock, Knock Who's There?". Author and historian John Kennedy O'Connor notes in The Eurovision Song Contest. The Official History that she gave a very comfortable performance and sang in a crystal clear voice but despite being the pre-contest favourite, Hopkin came second to "All Kinds of Everything", performed by Irish singer Dana.

"Knock, Knock Who's There?" was released as a single on 23 March 1970 (APPLE 26) and became her second Number 2 UK hit.[ Her second album, Earth Song, Ocean Song, was released by Apple on 1 October 1971. The record was produced by her husband Tony Visconti and included cover versions of songs written by Cat Stevens, Gallagher and Lyle and Ralph McTell.

After marrying Visconti in 1971, Hopkin withdrew from the pop music scene to have a family. ~SOURCE: Wikipedia

Great cover version of an Italian song. This was also recorded by Francoise Hardy and Caroline Munro, both of which are in my collection and will definitely be uploaded at some stage. Issued in the UK on Capitol in 1966.
