Screw all that bringing communities together crap. Diversity is our strength!
I agree with you if it's the government doing the 'bringing', but when it's a regular guy doing the doing, it's different.

Exactly, this is “free to choose” not governmental force

Shen Athletics/Twitter Yeva Klingbeil and her teammates

A high school cross country team in New York demonstrated the true meaning of teamwork in an uplifting viral video.
Yeva Klingbeil, a senior at Shenendehowa High School who was diagnosed with cancer in November 2019, had help from a few of her teammates in crossing the finish line at a meet on Monday.

"What a great moment to see Senior Yeva Klingbeil at today's girls track & field meet," the school's athletic department wrote, posting the video on Twitter.

"Yeva's teammates help her across the line in the 4X1 relay," the post continued. "Yeva continues her fight with cancer and we continue to be amazed by her spirit!!"

The video has been viewed more than 180,000 times and counting, showing Klingbeil walk arm-in-arm with three of her teammates as they helped her finish the race. The rest of the team and runners from other schools rushed to congratulate her after, chanting her name in unison.

Video at link:

Klingbeil was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer that affects muscle tissue, mostly in adolescents.

According to a Pledge It fundraising page for Klingbeil, she began chemotherapy in 2019 for a cancerous mass around her jaw, followed by radiation treatments, which damaged her brainstem. After weeks in the ICU and work with several specialists, she's regained some of her function, and the tumor has shrunk to half of its original size.

"Yeva and her family pray her brain will continue healing and she'll be able to breathe, walk, and eat once again," her coach Rob Cloutier wrote on Pledge It. "While Yeva has gone through all of this and more, she has never stopped caring about her friends and family and has never given up hope of recovery."

Cloutier organized a marathon last fall to help Klingbeil's family offset the cost of her medical expenses. The marathon raised $21,474, which they also shared with Family Reach, an organization that offers financial assistance families of cancer patients.

Judge who gave former drug dealer a 2nd chance swears him in as a lawyer

The first time Edward Martell stood in Judge Bruce Morrow's Wayne County Circuit courtroom, he was a 27-year-old high school dropout facing a 20-year sentence.

This month, he returned to Morrow's courtroom to be sworn in as a member of the Michigan State Bar.

Edward Martell

It was 2005 and Martell had been out on bail when he was arrested in a drug sting in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

After pleading guilty to selling and manufacturing crack cocaine, Martell could have spent the next 20 years in prison.

Instead of throwing the book at Martell, Judge Morrow gave him three years of probation and a challenge to return to court next time with an achievement, such as becoming a corporate executive.

"Any other judge would have flushed me," Martell told The Washington Post.

"He said, 'I challenge you to be a CEO of a Fortune 500 company instead of being out here selling drugs'," Martell recalled. "And I love a challenge."

Today, Martell isn't the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. But he did earn a full scholarship to college and another to law school.
He passed the exams, and last week raised his right hand to be sworn in as a member of the Michigan Bar, in the courtroom of the judge who spared him, and who also administered the oath.

"That was better than walking your daughter down the aisle," Morrow told Deadline Detroit.

Martell is currently working at Perkins Law Group in downtown Detroit, a general practice law firm that specializes in criminal law. He hopes his experience will help him with future clients in situations much like his own turning point.

Morrow, who credits God with the way Martell's story has played out, believes most failures are because people who need help never get it.

"Everybody needs love," Morrow added. "It's a crazy cliché, but some defendants, that's what they need, too. If you believe like I believe, that there but for the grace of God go you and me... It took some intelligence to get in and out of the kind of trouble he got into. I told him, 'You could be my son. Let's see how far you can go.' And man, he hasn't finished yet."

Same problem in NC. They want to be able to cycle they say, during periods of peak demand.

Stupid because my whole house generator will kick on automatically

When I expressed concern that so many had their power bills double or triple after having 'smart' meters installed they said it was because the analog meters were wrong. They have a gun pointed at your head and comply or die.

I was in Aldis yesterday getting some grub. Although I never wore a mask there, a judge struck down the mask mandate so most didn't have on masks. But what struck me was a mom and her three girls, one a young teenager, one about 8 or so, and a two year old or so in the cart. They were obviously wearing their church clothes, the mom and the oldest wearing matching white blouses and black skirts. Everybody was clean, trim, neat, there was no crying or running around, no grabbing stuff, they were just casually getting groceries. No masks.
Man, who knew that something normal like that would become so unusual in just a year or so. It made me feel so good in a way that I had to resist the temptation to follow them around the store (STALKER!). I don't know who they were, but God Bless them for being normal and giving this old man a ray of hope for the future.

tar and feathers...

and, if any local anyone has issues with this, that will be handled accordingly

God Bless! we didn't have to wait for the convicts to help us...

:summer:

now, where are those who would argue this Is Not a proper way to dispense 'justice'?

it seems to me, some of the mob has spoken

and for the 'show me' crowd, This Is a Legitimate Way, not legal, just Legitimate, imho

saved everyone in that region some tax money...now on to the trial

but, be aware: if he has 'insurance', he'll be paid, if it's discovered or 'reported' to be arson...

that'll be paid out to an attorney, so, it really doesn't matter

anyways, so many ways this can go but I Like It - i didn't authorize it or directly approve of it, but, I Like It

Good old fashioned American justice. This needs a revival. The courts aren't administering justice and the people see this therefore; it's up to the people to deliver the message and the people responded. SO happy to see this

Maybe The American Revolution 2.0 is beginning this morning in Massivetwoshitts! This area (Stoneham/Wakefield) is part of my old stomping grounds growing up as a kid!

Either this is a patriot militia group headed to a weekend membership meeting or it's antifart getting stopped before a planned FF. Either way, it apparently brought out all the local firefighters for what reason I haven't a clue!

China Has a BIG Plan for Post-U.S. Afghanistan
Daily Beast

Beijing just can’t wait for the U.S. to get out of the way.

As the U.S. exits Afghanistan, Beijing is preparing to swoop into the war-torn country and fill the vacuum left by the departed U.S. and NATO troops.

China’s ability to deepen its footprint in Afghanistan will depend in great part on whether it reaches an understanding with the Taliban, which will see its influence continue to grow whether it holds power or not. If the Taliban is okay with China building out infrastructure and other projects in Afghanistan, Beijing will be in a much better place.

<heh> We all know how that works out.

Long term plans in place. Then think of our birth rates.

Three-child policy: China lifts cap on births in major policy shift

BEIJING, May 31 (Reuters) - (This 31 May story corrects attribution of scientific paper in paragraph 22 to Zhejiang University and Beijing Normal University, not Hangzhou University)

Married Chinese couples may have up to three children, China announced on Monday, in a major shift from the existing limit of two after recent data showed a dramatic decline in births in the world’s most populous country.

Beijing scrapped its decades-old one-child policy in 2016, replacing it with a two-child limit to try and stave off risks to its economy from a rapidly aging population. But that failed to result in a sustained surge in births given the high cost of raising children in Chinese cities, a challenge that persiststo this day.

The policy change will come with "supportive measures, which will be conducive to improving our country's population structure, fulfilling the country's strategy of actively coping with an ageing population", the official Xinhua news agency said following a politburo meeting chaired by President Xi Jinping.

Among those measures, China will lower educational costs for families, step up tax and housing support, guarantee the legal interests of working women and clamp down on "sky-high" dowries, it said, without giving specifics. It would also look to educate young people "on marriage and love".

China had a fertility rate of just 1.3 children per woman in 2020, recent data showed, on par with ageing societies like Japan and Italy and far short of the roughly 2.1 needed for replacement level.

"People are held back not by the two-children limit, but by the incredibly high costs of raising children in today's China. Housing, extracurricular activities, food, trips, and everything else add up quickly," Yifei Li, a sociologist at NYU Shanghai, told Reuters.

"Raising the limit itself is unlikely to tilt anyone's calculus in a meaningful way, in my view."

Zhang Xinyu, a 30-year-old mother of one from Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, said the problem was that women bore most of the responsibility for raising children.

"If men could do more to raise the child, or if families could give more consideration for women who had just had children, actually a lot of women would be able to have a second child," she told Reuters.

"...But thinking of the big picture, realistically, I don't want to have a second child. And a third is even more impossible."

In a poll on Xinhua's Weibo account asking #AreYouReady for the three-child policy, about 29,000 of 31,000 respondents said they would “never think of it” while the remainder chose among the options: "I'm ready and very eager to do so", "it's on my agenda", or “I'm hesitating and there's lot to consider”.

The poll was later removed.

"I am willing to have three children if you give me 5 million yuan ($785,650)," one user posted.

Share prices in birth- and fertility-related companies surged.

'TOO LATE NOW'

Early this month, a once-in-a-decade census showed that the population grew at its slowest rate during the last decade since the 1950s, to 1.41 billion, fuelling concerns that China would grow old before it gets wealthy as well as criticism that it had waited too long to address declining births. read more

"This is without a doubt a step in the right direction, but still it's a bit timid," Shuang Ding, chief economist at Standard Chartered in Hong Kong, told Reuters.

"A fully liberalised birth policy should have been implemented at least five years ago, but it's too late now, although its better late than never," he said.

China's politburo also said on Monday that it would phase in delays in retirement ages, but did not provide any details.

Fines of 130,000 yuan ($20,440) were being imposed on people for having a third child as of late last year, according to a government notice in the city of Weihai.

Fearing a population explosion, in 1979 China implemented its one-child policy, which succeeded in curbing population growth but also led to coerced sterilisations and sex-selective abortions that exacerbated a gender imbalance as many parents preferred male children.

A study published earlier this year by academics from Zhejiang University and Beijing Normal University found the two-child policy encouraged wealthier couples who already had a child and were "less sensitive to child-rearing costs", while driving up the costs of child care and education and discouraging first-time parents.

Su Meizhen, a human resources manager in Beijing, said she was "super-happy" to be pregnant with her third child.

"We won't have to pay the fine and we'll be able to get a hukou," she said, referring to the urban residence permit that enables families to receive benefits including sending their children to local public schools.

Swiss start-up develops world’s first ‘personalised skin’ machine

https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/swiss-...-s-first--personalised-skin--machine/46742222

A Swiss company is offering hope to the more than 11 million people worldwide who suffer serious burns every year. The company is launching a revolutionary machine capable of generating skin that can be grafted in large quantities using a sample provided by the patient.

“It’s not artificial skin, but it’s not exactly natural skin either,” said Daniela Marino, cofounder and director of CUTISS, launched in 2017 at the University Children’s Hospital Zurich. “To be precise, it’s a skin-tissue equivalent produced by bio-engineering.”

Using a small sample of healthy skin from a burns patient, cutaneous (skin) cells are “grown” in a laboratory and then combined with a hydrogel to produce new skin. The result, denovoSkin, is one millimetre thick, the same as the average natural dermis and epidermis.

The big advantage over traditional techniques is that a sample the size of a stamp can end up as a piece of skin almost the size of a place mat.

From lab to market

DenovoSkin passed the laboratory prototype stage a long time ago. It is now finalising the second phase of its clinical trials. Switzerland, the EU and the US have designated it an “orphan medicinal product” (intended to treat rare illnesses). This means patients are already receiving denovoSkin grafts, but not more than two per case.

The technology has also been granted special authorisations for so-called compassionate use in cases where it can “surpass any current medical treatment for large and deep skin injuries, with potentially life-saving and life-changing outcomes”, CUTISS said in a press release. Some patients with major burns have already benefited from denovoSkin grafts on large areas of their bodies.

After this stage, the product has yet to prove its efficiency in a large number of patients to complete phase III. Marino doesn’t expect it to arrive on the market before 2023 “at the earliest, and if all goes well”.

“At the moment we can multiply the surface area of the original sample by a factor of 100, and we’re aiming eventually for a factor of 500,” Marino said. The traditional method is to graft a piece of healthy skin, which can be stretched to only nine times its surface area. This quickly creates problems with people who suffer burns of 50%, 60%, 70% or more.

Just for the wealthy?

With its hi-tech – almost futuristic – aspects, is denovoSkin destined to benefit only the wealthy?

“We thought about this from the beginning,” Marino said. “It’s clear that Southern countries experience many more dramas linked to burns, partly, sadly, because of wars. For the moment we’re producing entirely by hand, with very specialised technicians, in sterile rooms – and that all costs a lot. But the machine will allow us to reduce the prices considerably and will make the treatment affordable even for developing countries.”

The machine is denovoCast, developed with CSEM, a Swiss private, non-profit research and technology organisation based in Neuchâtel. It can produce several grafts at the same time in a completely closed process with no manual intervention. Its inventors expect it to accelerate production by more than 30% and to ensure consistent quality.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news (especially in the good news thread) but...

https://www.nbc4i.com/news/teen-her...ductor-gets-up-to-10-years-for-armed-robbery/

Teen hero who helped save girl from abductor gets up to 10 years for armed robbery

boggsweb_173984

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A teenager who helped to save a 5-year-old girl from her abductor nearly three years ago will serve up to 10 years in prison for robbing a city store at gunpoint.

Temar Boggs, 18, was ordered to serve 40 months to 10 years in state prison at his sentencing Friday, according to Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman’s office.

Authorities say Boggs pointed a gun at a store clerk in December when he robbed the El Coqui Market in the 600 block of North Plum Street. Boggs and a 16-year-old accomplice who served as the lookout then fled with about $200.

He pleaded guilty to felony counts of robbery and conspiracy in June.

In court, Boggs and his attorney said he was drawn into the wrong group of friends after gaining notoriety from assisting police in the July 2013 kidnapping case.

Boggs was 15 when he and a friend spotted a girl who had been abducted from the yard of a Lancaster Township home. The boys chased the kidnapper’s car on bicycles until the man stopped and released the girl.

Congressman Joe Pitts praised Boggs and his friend on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, and a New York woman was so moved by their heroism that she set up a scholarship fund for them.

The girl’s abductor, convicted sex offender Harold Leroy Herr, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and sexually assaulting the girl in August 2013. He is serving a prison sentence of 50 to 100 years.

What gives?

- Scholarship Fund, yet "peer pressure" WINS?....

Sadly, it seems that EVIL trumps MORALS in much of society today... (even though the "pics" show him as much "whiter" now, lol !!!)

12-year-old boy defending mother fatally shoots armed home intruder

A 12-year-old boy in Louisiana fatally shot an armed intruder who was threatening his mother inside their home, local authorities said.

The boy feared for his mother's life when he used a hunting rifle to shoot 32-year-old Brad LeBlanc, who broke into their home located east of Clinton on June 30, according to a July 1 report from the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office.

"Witnesses stated that a perpetrator forced entry into the home at this address to perform a home invasion. The perpetrator was in possession of a firearm. At some point during this incident the perpetrator was fatally shot by a resident of the home," the department wrote in a statement.

First responders were dispatched to the scene, and CPR was administered to LeBlanc before he was transported to a local medical facility. He was pronounced dead at the hospital by the East Feliciana Parish Coroner.

"I don't know what you tell a kid at that age. I've tried to reflect myself when my kids were 12-years-old, or maybe when I was 12-years-old, what I know is a very horrific incident. He's really a hero for taking care of his mother," Sheriff Jeff Travis told the Washington Examiner.

Two other individuals allegedly involved in the attempted burglary were discovered and booked in prison. One of them is Jonathon Barker, who is charged with second-degree murder, principal to aggravated burglary, and principal to aggravated kidnapping.

The other suspect is Jennifer Bond, who was booked in the East Feliciana Parish Prison for "Accessory After the Fact," the department wrote.

Barker is not accused of directly killing anyone, though Travis said Louisiana law states that participation in a crime that results in a murder or death can be applied to other suspects. No evidence at this time points to charges for the boy, he added.

"At this time, the East Feliciana County Sheriff's Office has no evidence, whether it be physical evidence, or testimonies from witnesses, that the 12-year-old young man did anything that would implicate that he committed a crime," Travis told the Washington Examiner.

After the investigation concludes, the sheriff's department will turn its findings to the district attorney, who will decide whether the child was justified to shoot the intruder.

The victims in the case have not been named by authorities.

Travis has been in contact with the mother, who informed him her son is seeking appropriate help following the incident, he said.

His mother "has got a pathway to start therapy" or "counseling" for the boy, he said, noting that steps were in order to help him cope with the "very abnormal situation."
