Those dirty, rotten, bastards plowed my driveway for me...
Column: What can you do about the Trumpites next door?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/c...umpites-next-door/ar-BB1dpVVk?ocid=uxbndlbing

Oh, heck no. The Trumpites next door to our pandemic getaway, who seem as devoted to the ex-president as you can get without being Q fans, just plowed our driveway without being asked and did a great job.

How am I going to resist demands for unity in the face of this act of aggressive niceness?

Of course, on some level, I realize I owe them thanks — and, man, it really looks like the guy back-dragged the driveway like a pro — but how much thanks?

These neighbors are staunch partisans of blue lives, and there aren’t a lot of anything other than white lives in the neighborhood.

This is also kind of weird. Back in the city, people don’t sweep other people’s walkways for nothing.

Maybe it’s like what Eddie Murphy discovered in that old “Saturday Night Live” sketch “White Like Me.” He goes undercover in white makeup and finds that when white people are among their own, they pop free champagne and live the high life. As Murphy puts it: “Slowly I began to realize that when white people are alone, they give things to each other. For free.”

Hezbollah, the Shiite Islamist political party in Lebanon, also gives things away for free. The favors Hezbollah does for people in the cities Tyre and Sidon probably don’t involve snowplows, but, like other mafias, Hezbollah tends to its own — the Shiite sick, elderly and hungry. They offer protection and hospitality and win loyalty that way. And they also demand devotion to their brutal, us-versus-them anti-Sunni cause. Some of us are family, the favors say; the rest are infidels.

The same is true with Louis Farrakhan, who currently helms the Nation of Islam. While the Southern Poverty Law Center classifies him as a dangerous anti-Semite, much of his flock says he’s just a little screwy and unfailingly magnanimous. To them.

When someone helps you when you’re down, or snowed in, it’s almost impossible to regard them as a blight on the world. In fact, you’re more likely to be overwhelmed with gratitude and convinced of the person’s inherent goodness.

You might end up like the upper-middle-class family I stayed with in France as a teenager. They did not attend a citywide celebration for the 100th birthday of Charles de Gaulle, the war hero who orchestrated the liberation of his country from Nazi Germany in 1944. They did have several portraits of Philippe Pétain, Nazi collaborator, on their wall.

When I screwed up the courage to ask how it was for them during the occupation, the lady of the house replied, “We were happy because the Nazis were very polis.” I didn’t know the word, so I excused myself to consult a French-English dictionary. I was in tears when I found the entry: “polite.”

So when I accept generosity from my pandemic neighbors, acknowledging the legitimate kindness with a wave or a plate of cookies, am I also sealing us in as fellow travelers who are very polis to each other but not so much to “them”?

Loving your neighbor is evidently much easier when your neighborhood is full of people just like you.

What do we do about the Trumpites around us? Like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who spoke eloquently this week about her terrifying experience during the insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6, Americans are expected to forgive and forget before we’ve even stitched up our wounds. Or gotten our vaccines against the pandemic that former President Trump utterly failed to mitigate.

My neighbors supported a man who showed near-murderous contempt for the majority of Americans. They kept him in business with their support.

But the plowing.

On Jan. 6, after the insurrection, Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) issued an aw-shucks plea for all Americans to love their neighbors. The United States, he said, “isn’t Hatfields and McCoys, this blood feud forever.” And, he added, “You can’t hate someone who shovels your driveway.”

At the time, I seethed; the Capitol had just been desecrated. But maybe my neighbor heard Sasse and was determined to make a bid for reconciliation.

So here’s my response to my plowed driveway, for now. Politely, but not profusely, I’ll acknowledge the Sassian move. With a wave and a thanks, a minimal start on building back trust. I’m not ready to knock on the door with a covered dish yet.

I also can’t give my neighbors absolution; it’s not mine to give. Free driveway work, as nice as it is, is just not the same currency as justice and truth. To pretend it is would be to lie, and they probably aren’t looking for absolution anyway.

But I can offer a standing invitation to make amends. Not with a snowplow but by recognizing the truth about the Trump administration and, more important, by working for justice for all those whom the administration harmed. Only when we work shoulder to shoulder to repair the damage of the last four years will we even begin to dig out of this storm.

Dumb SOBs.

FIND OUT who your neighbor is, before getting involved like that.

You never know what you'll find. Heather has two mommies; and one of them has a wee-wee...

I guess the moral there is, kill 'em with kindness.

FARK that. I'd rather kill them with buckshot. And feed them to my hogs...I love me some free bacon...

Earlier this week, the right honorable politicians of the United Kingdom rolled out strict new Covid travel rules.

Bear in mind that the UK already has some of the strictest Covid rules in the world right now. People must stay at home and only go out if they have a “reasonable excuse”.

Anyone who attends a gathering of more than 15 people faces steep fines of 800 pounds (about USD $1,100), and anyone who organizes said gathering faces a fine of 10,000 pounds.

All ‘non-essential’ businesses are closed. And, just like incarcerated felons, Brits are allowed to exercise outside once per day.

Now, those rules have been in place already for the past few weeks. But on Monday, the government established harsh rules for travelers.

Effective immediately, anyone who arrives to the UK from the so-called “red list” of countries, (including all of South America, Panama, most of southern Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, etc.) must purchase a quarantine package that costs around $2,400 per person.

The rules require that travelers from the red list quarantine in government approved hotels (not at home), and the package includes accommodation, testing, etc.

As a further measure, the new rules also threaten fines and imprisonment of up to TEN YEARS if anyone is found lying about their travel history in order to avoid the quarantine package.

You read that correctly. Ten years in prison.

The British government, naturally, has defended the severity of these penalties, with the Health Secretary stating, “I make no apologies for the strength of these measures. . . People who flout these rules are putting us all at risk.”

This is typical, small-minded thinking of the scare class.

They believe that Covid is such a terrible scourge that no measure is too harsh, no liberty is off limits. And anyone who isn’t sufficiently terrified is a threat to public health and national security.

This is the same fanatical logic that caused the wholesale dismantling of our freedoms after 9/11. Terrorism was the terrible scourge twenty years ago, and, similarly, no measure was too harsh, and no liberty off limits, to protect us from it.

Reason has been completely abandoned. Even very prominent voices call anyone who disagrees with them a “murderer”.

In late December, for example, one outspoken British medical researcher told BBC Radio that people who don’t socially distance and wear masks “have blood on their hands.”

But what about all the people who have died or been severely injured BECAUSE of the Covid measures?

What about the dramatic increase in suicides, alcoholism, and domestic abuse?

What about the alarming rise in self-harm among children?

What about the untold numbers of people who don’t realize they have unchecked cancer growing inside of them, because they’ve been scared away from having routine mammograms, pap smears, colonoscopies, etc. that would have caught a malignant tumor early?

It seems to me that these Covid rulemakers… and the house cats who cheer them on… have blood on THEIR hands.

Not to mention-- threatening someone with ten years in prison for lying about their travel history seems completely absurd, especially when compared to other sentencing guidelines.

It turns out, for example, that according to section 61(2)(a) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2003, administering drugs to someone in order to engage in unwanted sexual intercourse (e.g. Bill Cosby) can carry a lesser sentence than the new Covid rules.

In fact I’ve taken the liberty to provide a partial list of other crimes in the UK that carry an equal or lesser sentence than lying about your travel history:

- Sexual Assault: 10 years [Section 3(4)(b) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2003]

- Racially-motivated assault: 2 years [Section 29, Crime and Disorder Act of 1998]

- Child Abduction: 7 years [Section 4, Child Abduction Act of 1984]

- Sexual Activity with a Child: 5 years [Section 16, Sexual Offences Act of 2003]

- Intent to injure her Majesty the Queen: 7 years [Section 3, Treason Act of 1842]

- Possession of child pornography: 3 years [Section 66, Coroners and Justice Act of 2009]

- Causing death by careless driving: 5 years [Section 20, Road Safety Act of 2006]

So, in summary, rapists, traitors, violent white supremacists, murderers, and pedophiles, can receive lighter sentences for their crimes than someone who lies about having been to Portugal.

This is what constitutes good governance in 2021.

To your freedom,

Simon Black,

That's why they are bringing in "refugees" and illegals from all over the world that are NOTHING like you to bring in conflict!

Then just do a Fried Green Tomatoes and cut out the need for hogs.

Makes the meat taste like ASS.

:Yuck:

But...hard times require utilization of scarce resources. Second-rate bacon is still better than Soylent Green...and it puts our Leftist friends to their highest, best use.

Had to look-up the movie reference, but yeah...

Serve it to the out-of-towners. Or, better yet, serve it to politicians.

Ask the 84 year old guy who wrote a song about a chick with a dick.

I thought this was the kind of shit we learned as teens, or maybe naive twenty-somethings...
