San Francisco spends $70,000 per homeless person on tents

San Francisco has a homeless problem. The city has grappled with human feces and discarded drug needles littering the street.

In the past, the city’s government has tried to solve the problem by funding round-the-clock public restrooms with security. The cost came to about $30 per toilet flush.

Now San Francisco’s government is back in action, spending $18 million on “safe sleeping villages” that provide bathrooms, showers, meals, and security for sites where the homeless can pitch their tents.

This seems like a noble enough goal. The problem, however, is that the camps house only 260 tents. That brings the cost to a grand total of about $70,000 per tent.

San Francisco’s budget plans to spend an additional $1 billion on homelessness over the next two years, on top of the $300 million per year already spent.

With a homeless population of about 18,000 that comes to about $44,400 per homeless person per year, to pay for all of these tents and toilets.

What’s interesting is that, according to rental website Zumper, the average rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in San Francisco is $35,580 per year.

So the city is actually spending 25% MORE on tents and toilets for homeless people than it would cost to give every one of them their own apartment.

Maybe it's not the boomers you should be blaming for your failures there Commander, that degree in Gender Studies may be the culprit for why you've grown into a useless POS to society....and take off the silly mask...it does NOTHING!

Blame Congress for allowing manufacturing to go overseas.

Granted, our government's duty is not to supply it's citizens with jobs.
No argument but anyone who has a trade (electrician, plumber, HVAC, more) is doing just fine. Gender studies graduates, not so much!

No, but they should be protecting the nation.

"Vibration and Noise" was a subject in my final year and almost defeated me.

Thermodynamics 2, 3 and 4 was nothing.

Mechanical Engineering with electrical equations.

The period 1945-1980 were most definitely not the norm. Those were the postwar years...where the whole Western world's infrastructure was destroyed. Except for that of Uncle Sugar.

The world needed manufactured goods, and the US was the only developed industrial base to buy them. And to buy them, the world needed hard money. Only the dollar was both sound (until 1971) and easily converted into machine tools, agricultural implements, railway equipment, and consumer goods.

One reason we got both der KdF-Wagen and the Japanese pickup truck, before the rest of the world...was that that was the way that Japan and Germany were trying to obtain sound money. In 1950, early Beetles were built in a factory with its roof destroyed, virtually by hand, with damaged stamping equipment. Workers lived in military tents, and the city, which had been built by the Nazis as a Party industrial city, was being run by the British as an internment camp. But to eat, and to raise any kind of money, they needed dollars, and the goods and tools dollars could buy.

It worked - and with rapid speed. And you could say that all those jobs were created out of Ford's and GM's potential market.

In 1960, if you got a high school diploma and a good recommendation, you got a job. Not in 1930, where Ford was dumping their longtime workers. Not when the whole of the Lima Locomotive Works (a big employer at the time) was furloughed - all of them, from line workers and laborers to top managers - and the business (which was debt free) was mothballed for three years.

Times have always been hard. The three decades postwar were an historical anomaly. We returned to a more-normal time when the college-educated Engineering Department of Chrysler...all of them...were pink-slipped upon the start of assembly of the new K-Car models. Chrysler was that close to failing, that it couldn't keep the design staff on the payroll once their Hail-Mary model was being produced.

Now it's China, which is waging economic blitzkrieg. And now, as in most times, only the most-serious and well prepared (as well as the most PC, best connected) get jobs. The favored in-groups always have opportunities; but for the rest of us, the pie is shrinking.

Now, how HARD would it be to do a blood test and see what CHROMOSOMES & GENES would REALLY IDENTIFY the "GENDER" of those, uh, "people"?
Whether in SPORTS or BEAUTY CONTESTS, "personal identification" would NOT "TRUMP THE SCIENCE"... since their MANTRA is "Trust The Science"...

NO OVARIES = NOT FEMALE.

PERIOD
You racist!

It's either too many hormones in processed foods or child abuse or both, at this stage...

Talk about "brown shirts"... (in black)...

But "Antifa is just an idea, it doesn't exist" - Joe Biden
I'll bet those protesters would not have been bothered had they had AR15's hanging from their necks

We've seen how the protective magic of just bearing a rifle can prevent this from happening before
