Not strong in geology but obviously formed in layers in a moisture accretion process.
You are correct about that. Which would make it a sedimentary rock.
It's an agate. Banded layers of quartz and other trace minerals which cause differences in color.

Way to capture those gorgeous creatures Eric. The TV flying over the tree is my favorite. It must be the contrast.
You can really see the difference in the body shape of the sharp shinned hawk versus a red tail/etc.. Impressive shot.
I swear, nature has a sense of humor. This morning I got up early so I could be at one of the parks before sunrise hoping I could get an owl pic. On my way less than 100 feet from my property there sits an owl on the fiber line. Too dark to get a pic but I was highly amused. I rarely see owls.

Trivia: Around Abilene, Texas, there are large areas where most of the rocks are agates. Pick up a baseball-sized rock and bust it open. Bingo.
About 1 in 100 would be a geode.

Caught the propellers like they weren't moving.
Camera has been getting a work out today. If it were the film days I would have gone through about 5 rolls.
