Hey up guys,

As we find them, let's put them here so guys can all see how to do things:

That way we all learn from each other,

For a starter,

1) Private Messages are gone and replaced with Conversations
2) You can now change your nic to 'custom user value' that shows up under your avatar
3) Alert system to let you know re site activity vs your activity, which you can customize the alerts under your profile
4) We do have a 'New Posts' Button on the menu, but the Todays Posts is gone.
5) You can watch and unwatch threads so that if you want to keep track of a certain thread, it will store it to your profile
6) Same for watched forums

Please add as you see fit guys

To change colors on forum, or viewing skin/styles

At the bottom of each page is a 'footer bar', and in the lower left corner you should see the term 'GIM Forum', if you mouse over that, and click it, a menu of three choices will come up.

Gim Forum (Brown/gold skin with dark lettering)
Blue Invert (dark skin with white lettering)
Default (default style in blue with white background)

Posting a article,

For instance, I went to this site, copied the whole article, and brought it here:

From upper right, I chose the menu 'Post New Thread'

post thread.jpg

Clicked on that then the following comes up:

create thread.jpg

Then I right clicked in the message box and selected 'paste' and you will see the field populate,

thread fill.jpg

Then it was just a matter of adding the title,
Always including back links to the authors location

backlink.jpg

and finally, I add tags to help google find us

tags.jpg

easy peasy with the new software

4) We do have a 'New Posts' Button on the menu, but the Todays Posts is gone.
This is best new feature in my opinion. For those days when you can't check in, you no longer lose continuity because there are multiple pages of unchecked content instead of only the last 100 or so posts.

On the other hand, it appears that once you read a "New Post" it then disappears (until another post is made in the thread) where as with the "Today's Post" feature, it stayed there and you could refer back to it again if someone posted to it or not for 24 hours.

Question posed about quote someone in reply

Scorpio,

I tried to highlight a quote to a reply, which I do sometimes, but it did not work. Not sure what I did wrong.

Look at the last post in my Xmas thread.
http://www.goldismoney2.com/threads/what-did-you-give-for-christmas.85998/

thought you might want to know
----------------------------------------

For the area you want to highlight, mouse over and choose the area, it will change color,

but with this system it is even more cool, a little box will pop up 'reply', click on that and it will take you straight to the reply box with it already formatted and ready to go

Guys, as follows:

Your private messages exist as 'Conversations' in your profiles, click on that and they all come up going way back as Argentos states. Mine has too many in it as far as I can tell and no way to clear them out.

You can create your personal News Feeds by subscribing to whatever forums you want, then only those forums will send data your way.

That way, if you don't want anything from ex: the politics or newsfeed forums, they won't come thru

OK got it.....kind of like standing next to the water and just knowing.....no.....kind of like a penguin I am, just waiting for some one else to jump in first....maybe I should change that avatar....

I just noticed a draft saved alert above the "more options" click button so the software does an auto save, cool. so no more coping the text of a reply for a just in case a interweb glitch gremlin eats it also cool.

I have to work on the color of that box yet, will get to it,

FOR THOSE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE TICKER IN FIREFOX,

Here is a tip, but don't mess with it if you are not comfortable with computer fiddling.

---------------
If you want Firefox to always download the latest files then you can change the doc frequency setting like this:

  1. type this into the address bar: about:config
  2. you will see a long list of settings with a "Search" bar at the top of the page
  3. type this into the Search: browser.cache.check_doc_frequency
  4. double click on the browser.cache.check_doc_frequency line to edit it
  5. change the value to: 1
i think you may need to restart Firefox after that.

--------------------
After Dan got me this fix, the ticker is working normal now

Just went thru and checked iphones, pads, and various browsers, and all appears totally normal on all platforms.

No issues other than the JMB ticker does not 'responsive' fit the windows, kinda stays the same size

You will note on small screens that the menu bar is totally collapsed, and the full menus are not readily accessible until you expand them.

Is there a button to insert a link into words? The only way I could find to do that is to copy the words into a different application (like a word processor), then insert the link into the words, and finally copy the words with link back into GIM. There has to be a better way!

Edit to add: Here is the old fashioned way to add links to text. A button would be easier. :)

<a href="http://anysite.com/page.html">text the hyperlink should apply to</a>

This <a href="http://www.goldismoney2.com/">link to GIM</a> is a test.

That test failed. Back to the drawing board.

What about emoticons? Are we going to get more options like we had at the old site? I miss some of them and I'm sure Gold Duck is wasting away as we type.

A couple of buttons that may help you out:

Quick Navigation and Subscribe to Forum Feeds, so you can build your own 'news feed' tailored to which forums or all you want to follow

View attachment 79936
I tried this but when I got the RSS feed button it gave one of two responses

1) address not found
2) would you like to open in news

I'm trying to configure so when I click on new posts I get all the posts and threads from members. Es ethically, I'm trying to get everything except for the new news feed.

I appreciate what you are up to, and makes perfect sense.

When I click on the RSS for a particular forum, pic one is the button, pic 2 is what comes up for me,

Then it asks, the questions at the top. Please advise if that is what you get?????

But from there, it wants to bookmark it, when I thought it was building your own news feed. It was not.

When I went to my profile, and hit my 'news feed' it only showed persons I followed.

Which then negates what I had stated before. Grrrrrrrr.

So now I need to find a way to prevent RSS News Feeds from going to 'todays' or 'new' posts.

Hang in there guys, as I also have to reinvent the wheel on all of this while also searching down the intel on the what is what.

Thanks for the heads up!

Here's a tip.

If you post a page from somewhere and you want to copy/paste a piece of it for the thread title I found it's best to not click and drag. It really does strange things (in Safari).
What I found that works after you pasted the body is to place the cursor, either at the end or beginning, of the text you want to copy. Click it and then find the other end and while holding down the Shift key, click and it will highlight the text you want.

Control C or Copy, and then you can paste it in the headline box.

Some of the guys have been putting up great media in the albums. Reco'd that you go over and check it out and like the ones that were worth your time. As we continue on and people get used to this new home, that area will certainly grow quite large.

It is the perfect place to put a 'capsule' of your projects, and your progress, without anyone else being able to add to it. You can set stuff up to have others add, or just the creator of the album. Also you can set who can view, members only, everyone, etc.

I use New Posts a lot, always have.

The problem I am having is after opening and reading a thread the thread disappears until it is updated. I can't go back to it to read it again.

I actually like that feature. If you use FF simply right click on the back arrow in the upper left, find the post you want and left click it and you'll be right back there

ADDED MOBIL USER STYLES/SKINS

It keeps the avatar sizes back to normal, so it does not interfere with cruising the site on mobile devices.

Go to style chooser, lower left corner of the page and choose one of the mobile versions, in Gim Brown and Gim Black

Enjoy!

Happy New Year everyone. I'm sure 2016 will be just as eventful if not more so than 2015. This is my first visit here since the apparent changes were made. It threw me off. What drove these new changes? Looks like maybe the site was hacked?

Scorp did it as a New Years present to the board I believe...

Newer software, newer server, it's a faster forum too. The old VBulletin was failing with slower response time.

I'm getting used to the new digs. I like it!

If a thread has multiple pages can you make them visible so I don't click on the link but am able to click directly on the last page? You can if you hover & they become visible but it would be nice if they were always there.

Might I suggest going back to the old font size for forum names and latest threads. The updated font size is too big imo and throws off the look of the whole thing imo.

If people are having a hard time viewing things, it is easy enough to go to "view" on your favorite web browser (FF, safari, IE...etc.) and change the font of the whole webpage. Right now, the main page looks bad and is almost unreadable to me.

Ugly =

Much better =
