Jorge Ramos was born in Mexico City and became a journalist there. He eventually came to America on a student visa, got a job at a Spanish-language TV station in Los Angeles, liked it, and stayed. Along the way, he became rich and famous as the face of the news on Univision, America's largest provider of Spanish-language content. Although registered as an independent, his political stances, especially his support for open-borders, align him completely with the current hard-left incarnation of the Democrat party.
On Friday, a very unhappy Ramos acknowledged that Trump fulfilled one of his campaign promises. When Trump said that he was going to build a wall and that Mexico would pay for it, Leftists simultaneously castigated him for racism and laughed at the notion that Mexico would ever pay to keep its citizens from fleeing corruption and poverty within Mexico by illegally crossing into the United States.
After all, for Mexico, illegal immigration into America is a great gig, because it acts as a safety valve and a source of funds. If they didn't have unlimited access to America (that is, unlimited by such constraints as visas and immigration policies), Mexican citizens who have been burdened by decades of corruption and mismanagement would have no option but to suffer and then, finally, to rise up in revolution. For decades now, from the government's point of view, it's been better to give unhappy citizens a pamphlet with advice about crossing the border safely (albeit illegally) and then sit back and wait for the remittances ($26.1 billion in 2017) that help keep the Mexican government afloat.
Imagine the shock for the open-border left when Trump didn't just keep his promise, but went one better, by getting Mexican president Andrés Manuel López-Obrador (aka AMLO) to act as his armed enforcer at Mexico's southern border, blocking caravans making their way to America from mismanaged countries south of Mexico.
Well, you don't actually need to imagine the shock, because Ramos spells it out for you in a New York Times opinion piece:
Mexico has effectively turned into an extension of Mr. Trump's immigration police beyond American territory. And this is the case on multiple fronts: On the southern border with Guatemala, they prevent Central American migrants from coming into Mexico; on the northern one, they block those seeking entry to the United States from leaving. The decision of Mexico's President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, also known as AMLO, to follow this approach is misguided. He should let migrants continue their journey north.
This is a radical change in immigration policy for the United States. In the past, Central American asylum seekers were allowed to remain on American soil while waiting for their cases to be processed.
Central American immigration has always been a source of frustration for the United States. But the most powerful country in the world holds a certain degree of responsibility for what goes on in its hemisphere, and it is perfectly capable of accepting the most vulnerable people on the continent. It has done it before, and can still do it.
That's some serious arrogance there. This man, whom America graciously allowed in, now insists that America simply open her borders and welcome tens of millions of illiterate, unskilled people because he claims she has an entirely imaginary responsibility to make life better for them.
The fact that unlimited illegal immigration often makes life less good for those in America legally, whether African-Americans who lose jobs and housing to these illegal aliens or taxpayers who find themselves funding people who have no right to be here, is irrelevant to Ramos. He's like the houseguest who insists that he's entitled to invite his whole family and their neighbors over and, by the way, would you please give all of them your ATM card?
Ramos is correct that Latin America is bedeviled by "extreme poverty and gang violence." Large parts of Latin America are in terrible shape — but that doesn't give the population license to bring those problems to America. This is not a war or a genocide, and they are not refugees. Their desire to come to America is rational, but that doesn't mean it's rational for Americans that they come.
Moreover, as noted at the top of this article in connection with Mexico, Ramos's approach does nothing more than give corrupt, ineffective Latin American governments a way to relieve population pressure and bring in money. In other words, Ramos wants to prop up the same dysfunction he claims to despise.
If Ramos wants to help beleaguered Latin Americans, he needs to go to those countries and use his fame and intelligence to change the government and culture on the ground there. That's hard work, though. It's easier to write opinion pieces for the New York Times.
NYT: Black Workers’ Wages ‘Are Finally Rising’ After ‘Decade of Stagnation
The New York Times reported Friday morning that African American workers are seeing their wages rise for the first time after a “decade of stagnation,” further evidence of the strength of the U.S. economy.
The Times report came as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the economy created 225,000 new jobs in January, smashing expectations. Unemployment ticked upward to 3.6% — but that was due to more workers entering the labor force, generating the highest labor force participation rate thus far in the recovery from the Great Recession. Average hourly wage gains also rose slightly year-on-year, to 3.1%.
Black unemployment is near all-time lows, and now wages are climbing, the Timesreported Friday:
President Trump frequently celebrates the experience of black workers, noting correctly that the group’s unemployment rate is at its lowest on record.
Their wages are also going up — a New York Times analysis of government data found that wage growth for black workers has accelerated recently after lagging for much of the decade-long economic expansion.
The Times notes that black workers still face challenges, such as the rising cost of living in urban areas. It adds: “Not only did the gains take a decade of steady job growth to materialize, but they could evaporate at the first sign of economic weakness, as they did after previous expansions.” Read the full article here.
President Trump had a rally in Manchester, NH this evening. You'd think after that, he'd be ready to go back to the White House and rest. Nope.
The guy is amazing. Perhaps the only thing greater than his energy level is his heart.
Those statistics are consistent with all the others that I've seen.
On a side note, what a great way to commit campaign finance fraud; collect data from tens of thousands of people then split up large contributions from one person and make it appear as if all the people going to the rallies contributed to the campaign. Probably very difficult to uncover.
BREAKING: Elite Border Patrol Tactical Agents Deploying To Sanctuary Cities In Crackdown

The Trump administration is reportedly sending elite federal tactical units from the southern border to sanctuary cities across the United States in an effort to boost Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) ability to enforce federal immigration laws.
The New York Times reports that the units will be deployed to the Democrat-controlled cities of Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, Boston, New Orleans, Detroit, and Newark.
“The move reflects President Trump’s persistence in cracking down on sanctuary cities, localities that have refused to cooperate in handing over immigrants targeted for deportation to federal authorities,” the Times added. “It comes soon after the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security announced a series of measures that will affect both American citizens and immigrants living in those places.”
Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence told the Times in a statement that the deployment is coming in response to Democrat policies that make it difficult for federal agents to enforce the law.
“As we have noted for years, in jurisdictions where we are not allowed to assume custody of aliens from jails, our officers are forced to make at-large arrests of criminal aliens who have been released into communities,” Albence said. “When sanctuary cities release these criminals back to the street, it increases the occurrence of preventable crimes, and more importantly, preventable victims.”
The Times noted that the officials indicated that the goal of the deployments was to increase immigration-related arrests by 35%. The officials stressed that the units that were being deployed would not be “busting down doors or engaging in shootouts” and that their role was to simply support local ICE agents that the Democrat-controlled cities were not providing support to.
ICE officials have had an even harder time carrying out their mission as far-left politicians like socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have encouraged people to tip off illegal aliens to impending immigration enforcement actions by federal authorities.
At a recent rally in Iowa, Ocasio-Cortez said, “Organizing is about tipping people off if you start to see that ICE and CBP are in communities to try and keep people safe. I’m not here to reform some of these systems when we talk about immigration. I’m here because Senator Sanders has actually committed to breaking up ICE and CBP. That’s why I’m here.”
Sources told Vanity Fair this week that the campaign of Democrat presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, who is also a socialist, was not happy with Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks because even they thought she was going to far.
Former Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Tom Homan slammed Ocasio-Cortez immediately following her remarks, saying that she was engaged in criminal activity by encouraging people to commit obstruction.
“ICE is keeping the community safe,” Homan continued. “It’s an incredibly stupid statement she made, which doesn’t surprise me because she’s about as far from smart as anybody could possibly be, but what she said is dangerous. These men and women put their lives on the line every day to arrest criminals off the streets, especially in New York.”
“My last year as ICE director, we took 5,000 criminals off the streets of New York,” Homan continued. “These ICE agents have done more to protect the residents of New York than she ever has done or ever will do.”
“It’s a dangerous statement, it’s idiotic, and I just can’t believe that she can stand up on stage and make a statement like that and not have any repercussions from the House Ethics Committee,” Homan continued. “They are trying to remove the president of the United States, a sitting president, and at the same time she’s saying ICE shouldn’t remove criminal aliens. They say the president is obstructing them, there’s no one that’s been obstructing more than Congress. They’ve been obstructing this president from day 1.”
“She’s standing on stage and telling people to give a heads up that the good guys are going to be arresting the bad guys in your neighborhood… that’s obstruction, that’s a crime,” Homan continued. “She’s disgusting, something needs to be done about it.”
"She's about as far from smart as anybody can possibly be!"
Retired ICE director Tom Homan absolutely eviscerates AOC for her "dangerous" & "idiotic" attacks. She encouraged folks to tip each other off during ICE raids, which ends up protecting, in many cases, violent criminals.
