Two French kids reportedly discover two gold bars worth over $100,000 during lockdown

https://leprent.com/2020/05/22/two-...-gold-bars-worth-over-100000-during-lockdown/

Two French kids reportedly stumbled upon more than $100,000 worth of gold while they were in coronavirus lockdown.

According to local media, the children — both around 10 years old — made the discovery when their family went to stay with an older relative in the French town of Vendome after lockdown measures were enforced in March.

A few days after their arrival, they decided to build a fort, BFM TV reported, which led them to search for objects they could use around the house. During the search, the children found the two gold bars wrapped up in old sheets.

Until he saw the bars, the children’s father thought they had found his mother’s antique knife holders, according to BFM.

But when he saw the bars, which weighed around a kilogram each, he contacted local auctioneers who confirmed that they were gold bullion.

The bars are set to be auctioned off at Rouillac auction house in Vendome on June 16. Reportedly worth just over 100,000 euros ($108,979) combined, the bars are estimated to fetch at least 80,000 euros at auction.

[Huh? Read that last sentence again - they're worth over 100,000 euros but will only bring 80,000 euros at auction.]

Philippe Rouillac, an auctioneer at the organization, told BFM the bars had been bought by the children’s grandmother in 1967 but had been lost since then.

“We are going to wait for gold prices to rise a little more,” he said. He added that at the start of 2020, each bar would be worth around 43,000 euros, but by June, their value could rise to 54,000 euros.

Yep, it's pretty sweet once they graduate and get a real job and you can finally cut the umbilical cord to your wallet... Gotta admit though- he worked hard and got himself a USAF scholarship worth about 117K in all so I can't really complain...

That family (who also found the purchase documents by the deceased grandmother) was stupid enough to
- announce it
- take it to an auction appraiser for "certification"
- hand it to the auction appraiser to be put up "for auction" (as if they'd get more than spot & NOT have to pay the auctioneer's fees)
- not realize that they're going to get taxed TWICE on it (1. inheritance tax with LATE PENALTIES, 2. 11% SALES TAX ON GOLD (instead of driving to Brussels or Luxembourg and selling at a coin/gold dealer for spot)...
- make themselves known for their "wealth" to the "scum" in the region... Hello break-ins (2nd home, often empty)...
Stupid is as stupid does... and "daddy" works for the "Defense Department", hahaha!

10 years old is unfortunately too young to be able to keep quiet about a find like that. I remember reading about some teenagers in South Texas finding $600,000 in a freshly dug hole on a ranch. They went on a crazy spending spree and that was the end.

When I get done blowing those kids minds, and disowning em, theyll never be able to find me, or their new mom.

:secret:

I got a plan.

I think we will be good friends after the fact, andt hey will be better people.

I got their back, on the down low. Noone else would do it for em, but maybe their mama.

Im willing to let em squirm. Asshole young boys.

They break all my shit man.

I am a crabby mofucker.

USAF scholarship? My son went to the AF Academy and the US gov. valued his education at $350,000. Even with a supposed full ride, I paid out thousands every year for additional expenses. After the 2nd year, they offer everyone a 25k interest free loan or a 30k loan at 1% - they all take the 30. Then they spend the next 4 years after graduation paying it back at $500 a month.

Yeah, the Kid was in the final pool of applicants for the AFA and then decided to friggin DROP OUT of the running (after all that work, going to the Summer Seminar, and all the interviews) and take a Type VII AFROTC technical scholarship to Auburn he was offered because of a certain petite blue eyed brunette named SuSu because she was going to Troy about 45 min away... No, they didn't last their freshman year together... Grrrrr. Luckily he had an AU President's Scholarship as well so that picked up a lot of it but as you said, still had to cough up a lot every month. Norwich offered him a complete everything ride but he came back from a sponsored trip up there and said "Nope". That's where my family used to go back in the day...

Ah well... Wasted youth et al...

Lots of treasure from the 1715 Plate Fleet wreck off the beaches here on the Treasure Coast. There are certified salvagers w I ho can freelance off project licensed boats and they put their finding up on their FB page. I am also aware there are independents who find gold and silver spanish coins and other artifacts away from the know wreck sites who do not report. It's expected, but you lose the vale of the provenance.

When I get done blowing those kids minds, and disowning em
In France, inheritance laws FORBID you from "disowning" your kids. (But they DO DISOWN YOUR SPOUSE in favor of the kids!!!) The kids EACH get a % of your $$. 2 kids? 50% each, 3 kids? 33.3% each, 4 kids? 25% each etc.
If 3 of your kids never visited you (or even were abusive, or robbed you)- and one stayed with you 24/7 your final years to take care of you, you can't give that ONE kid more than the others.
Oh, and the "untaxed amount" is 100k Euros/kid. Anything above that is taxed @ 20% (if I remember correctly).
If you have only 1 kid, and a million euro apartment/house, the kid has to come up with 20% of 900,000 Euros (so 180,000 Euros) to PAY OFF THE GOVERNMENT IN ORDER TO JUST KEEP THE HOUSE.
And if you have NO kids - your "next of kin" (siblings, nephews, nieces) are taxed 25% on ALL the "inheritance"... So if you're leaving a "house", they have to come up with 1/4 the market value to "buy it back from the government"... (if only ONE "inheritor" - imagine the MESS if there are 4-6 nephews & nieces...)
And you can't "bequeath" to "whomever you want" (like your CAT in the USA)...

Also - you can't "disown" your kids at "age 18 - adult" = if they're "registered in school/university etc.", by LAW you have to PAY FOR THEIR FOOD & LODGINGS etc... well into their 20's...

And there are NO PAYCHECK JOBS that are above $75/100k a year. Aside from a few bank or insurance top managers. You're considered "rich" if you make $50k/year...

Case in point... as an industrial pipefitter in the US the payscale was between $25-45/hour - in France 11-16 euros/hour.. (and your employer has to pay THE GOVERNMENT THE SAME AMOUNT TOO! - AND YOU HAVE TO PAY TAXES ETC ON "YOUR SHARE"). & I know a self-employed car mechanic who only keeps his shop open 6 months a year, because if he earns more he falls into a higher "tax bracket" and ends up earning LESS MONEY FOR THE FULL YEAR THAN FOR 6 MONTHS...

Not to mention 20% Sales Tax on almost ANYTHING you purchase (90% on tobacco)... So... at LEAST "Triple Taxation"...

How's that future socialism in America working out for you? Still want to vote [DEM]?
