What 'facilities' are required to reprocess spent fuel-rods for example in France? Do we have them here in US? How long would it take to tool up?My recently retired brother, a nuclear reactor operator trainer / contractor. Would not buy the above script.
The US is sitting on the largest stockpile of spent fuel rods that can be reprocessed a brought back into service.
France reprocesses their spent rods and more Nuclear Power countries except the US are getting into the recycling.
The average fuel rod is replaced every 12-24 mos. Most Cos. replace 1/4 to 1/3 of their rods yearly.

All I know about reprocessing it is similar as the original process, some type of centrifugal force process. The US at this time does not allow reprocessing of fuel rods. What 'facilities' are required to reprocess spent fuel-rods for example in France? Do we have them here in US?
