The United States is calling on the Venezuelan government to give American officials immediate access to Citgo executives jailed in the South American country.

The Associated Press reported Friday that the U.S. Embassy in Caracas has asked the Venezuelan government to allow U.S. officials to visit with the oil executives.

Six executives from Citgo, a U.S.-based subsidiary of the Venezuelan state oil company, were arrested this week, with authorities alleging embezzlement linked to a $4 billion bond refinancing deal.

Five of the executives have dual citizenship in the U.S. and Venezuela, according to the AP.

Venezuela has the world's largest oil reserves, but has suffered from low crude prices. The country has been roiled by economic hardship and social upheaval in recent years.

Does the State Department provide this service to drug dealers and shoplifters too. Maybe Trump needs to get involved...

This must be what barry obama meant when he called Venezuela the greatest threat to US national security.

Welp we were warned...and now the unthinkable has happened! Six guys have been arrested and charged with crimes.

If they are completely guilty they should be lined u against a wall in front of a firing squad. They would be doing the world a favor.
