It's not just Rex Tillerson in the White House departure lounge as Jared Kushner and top economic adviser Gary Cohn may bolt after Trump's first year in office

  • Now it appears presidential son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner would be headed out of the administration
  • National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn could also be eyeing an exit
  • 'You're definitely going to see some people leave after tax cuts get done,' said a White House aide

Kushner and his family were lifelong dems, WTF was trump thinking bringing him in the circle?????????

Some of Jared Kushner’s relatives are distancing themselves from his support of father-in-law Donald Trump in a flap over a Tweet many find anti-Semitic — and blasting the newspaper publisher for invoking their Holocaust survivor grandparents.

The relatives called it “self-serving” and “disgusting” for Jared Kushner to use their family history as a way of backing Trump against charges of anti-Semitism.

Different take-away from our Grandparents’ experience. We must speak out against hate. Anti-semitism or otherwise. https://t.co/zOuDSXNsa5— marc kushner (@marchitizer) July 6, 2016
“I have a different takeaway from my grandparents’ experience,” Marc Kushner, Jared’s first cousin, wrote on Facebook, according to Politico. “It is our responsibility as the next generation to speak up against hate. Anti-Semitism or otherwise.”

The family feud erupted after Trump posted a tweet of Hillary Clinton, alongside a six-sided star and a pile of dollar bills. Many Jews and others objected to the post as anti-Semitic.

But Kushner pushed back by saying that Trump is “and incredibly loving and tolerant person who has embraced my family and our Judaism.”

On July 7, he released a statement in the Observer, a paper that he owns, in response to journalist Dana Schwartz’s open letter denouncing what she called Trump’s anti-Semitism.

“I am the grandson of Holocaust survivors…” Kushner wrote. “I go into these details, which I have never discussed, because it’s important to me that people understand where I’m coming from when I report that I know the difference between actual, dangerous intolerance versus these labels that get tossed around in an effort to score political points.”

Some of Kushner’s relatives don’t buy it.

Jacob Schulder, another cousin, also reportedly said that he does not appreciate Jared Kusher’s invoking their grandparents to justify Trump’s behavior or help advance his presidential campaign.

“For the sake of the family name, which may have no meaning to you but still has meaning to others, please don’t invoke our grandparents in vain just so you can sleep better at night. It is self serving and disgusting,” he wrote.

The Wicked Witch is dead!: Black Republicans unload on Omarosa as a 'tyrant' and a 'liar' who froze them out of the White House - 'she wanted to be the only senior black Republican in Trump's orbit'
  • Omarosa Manigault's exit from the White House has black Republicans who say she shut them out and berated staff feeling jubilant
  • Manigault joined Trump's White House earlier this year on Jan. 20 alongside a slew of mostly-white senior staffers and is leaving on the same day in 2018
  • Multiple sources have revealed to DailyMail.com that Manigault was fired and her conduct was the problem
  • 'She was a major roadblock and speed bump to a lot of black Republicans getting into that administration,' one said
  • Manigault complained Thursday that it was 'lonely' being the only, senior, black, Republican woman in Trump's White House
  • Her statement drew laughter from one person who used to work closely with the administration
  • 'If you had the influence, if you had the ear of the president, why didn't you have a role in getting more African-Americans in there?' he said

What exactly does anyone think the White House is supposed to do to stop the spread of AIDS.

Federal government can’t run with temps

Monday
Posted at 4:00 AM

In at least one respect, Donald Trump’s presidency is already historic: Never before has a president left so many senior jobs vacant for so long. If his goal is to downsize the bureaucracy — not a terrible idea — then he is going about it in a spectacularly wrongheaded way.

There are 624 senior appointed positions in the federal government that require confirmation by the Senate, a number that accounts for about 0.0001 percent of the workforce. For nearly 250 of those jobs, the White House hasn’t yet nominated anyone at all. Of the 371 candidates Trump has named for key positions, 240 have been confirmed, along with 49 lower-level nominees, for a total of 289. (By comparison, his four predecessors all had at least 400 confirmed nominees at this point.)

Aside from being managerial malpractice, this negligence may be illegal: At least a dozen administration officials are currently serving in a temporary capacity, even though the administration hasn’t nominated anyone for the job. That violates the 1998 Federal Vacancies Reform Act, which bars the executive branch from filling jobs with acting officials for longer than 300 days without sending a nominee to the Senate. The administration has attempted to work around this rule by delegating authorities to different offices in the same agency — but those moves may be subject to legal challenge, too.

Because duties performed by these acting officials are considered to have “no force or effect,” the administration risks jeopardizing some of its anti-regulatory priorities. Lawsuits brought under the Vacancies Act could halt, among other things, Trump’s efforts to loosen Obama-era restrictions on methane emissions on public lands and the serving of flavored milk in public schools.

Trump has defended this delinquency by saying most of these jobs are “unnecessary.” But the majority of them were created by congressional statute — which is why Congress needs to apply more pressure by giving the Vacancies Act more teeth. Banning acting officials from drawing a salary after 300 days, or requiring that vacant offices be filled by career civil servants after the deadline passes, might do the trick.

If the president is serious about streamlining the senior leadership of the executive branch — and it has grown by 624 percent since 1961 — he should work with Congress to identify which high-level jobs are no longer necessary. Any essential functions should be reassigned to other parts of the bureaucracy, in accordance with the law.

By all appearances, this administration has little interest in making the bureaucracy more responsive or efficient. Instead, the president seems intent on sabotaging the effectiveness of the federal government by refusing to fill his own branch’s upper ranks. Congress and the courts shouldn’t let him get away with it.

McMaster, Kelly On Their Way Out?

by Tyler Durden

SHARES

Longstanding tensions within the Oval Office have reportedly reached a breaking point, as friction between President Trump and two top advisers may soon result in yet another split within the White House. Both National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster and Chief of Staff John Kelly, both military men, are reportedly close to quitting or being fired - depending on whether you're reading CNN or Reuters.

The two are reportedly livid over Trump's treatment of them in public and private - as well as efforts by Trump and his associates to circumvent security measures designed to keep uncleared individuals from accessing classified information, such as Presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner - who enjoys reading the president's daily intelligence briefing.

“There have been running battles between Trump and his generals,” said one of the officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity. Kelly is a retired Marine general and McMaster an Army lieutenant general.

“But the clearance business is personal, and if Trump sets special rules for family members, I‘m not sure if Kelly and McMaster would salute,” the official said. -Reuters

And while Kelly wrestles with security clearances and reigning in President Trump's habit of tweeting his stream of consciousness, H.R. McMaster and Trump have their own unique difficulties which have reportedly come to a head.

According to "half a dozen defense and administration officials," the Pentagon has been quietly considering options that would allow Trump to boot McMaster - the three-star general, out of his current role and back into the military.

While administration officials have privately said the preference is to move McMaster into a position within the Army or Defense Department that qualifies as a promotion, some within the Pentagon feel he has become politicized in the White House and have expressed reservations about him returning to the military in a prominent role. Some defense officials caution that the President could also go as far as not to offer him a fourth star and force him to retire. -CNN

Five days ago Trump lashed out at McMaster over Twitter, after the National Security Advisor told an international audience at the Munich Security Conference that Russian interference in the US election is "now incontrovertible" following Special Counsel Robert Mueller's indictments of 13 Russian nationals - while failing to mention that "the results of the 2016 election were not impacted or changed by the Russians," as told by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein," adding "the only Collusion was between Russia and Crooked H, the DNC and the Dems. Remember the Dirty Dossier, Uranium, Speeches, Emails and the Podesta Company!"

This isn't the first time McMaster's neck has reportedly been on the chopping block, as West Wing rumors swirled over his departure last fall.

In January, McMaster quashed rumors of his departure, telling reporters "I have a job and it is my intention to go as long and hard as I can in service of the President of the nation," adding that it was "a tremendous honor to do this job every day."

Trump's first National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, resigned shortly after taking office amid a controversy over whether he lied to Vice President Mike Pence about his contacts with Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak.

On Thursday, the Pentagon directed all inquiries about McMaster to the White House. "General McMaster works for President Trump. Any decision with regards to staff, the White House will make those determinations," said chief spokesperson Dana White. Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters on Tuesday that Trump "still has confidence in General McMaster."

A Source within the White House, leaking to CNN, reports that Trump can't stand McMaster's demeanor during briefings - and that the President considers his National Security Advisor to be "gruff and condescending."

He prefers the briefing style of someone like CIA Director Mike Pompeo or Defense Secretary James Mattis, who patiently answer his questions, regardless of the premise. McMaster, meanwhile, is the person who delivers the news that Trump doesn't want to hear on a daily basis, according to the senior Republican source.

The issue is not political but mostly stylistic, as McMaster and Mattis tend to discuss information before it is presented to the President, the same source added. -CNN

Kelly and McMaster both declined to comment, however Reuters' sources were quick to add that "tensions could blow over, at least for now, as have previous episodes of discord between the president and other top officials who have fallen out of favor."

Gary Cohn to Resign as Trump’s Top Economic Adviser

The New York Times

KATE KELLY, MAGGIE HABERMAN and PETER BAKER
22 mins ago

Gary D. Cohn, President Trump’s top economic adviser, plans to resign, becoming the latest in a series of high-profile departures from the Trump administration, White House officials said on Tuesday.

The officials insisted there was no single factor behind the departure of Mr. Cohn, who heads the National Economic Council. But his decision to leave came after he seemed poised to lose an internal struggle amid a Wild West-style process over Mr. Trump’s plan to impose large tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

“Gary has been my chief economic adviser and did a superb job in driving our agenda, helping to deliver historic tax cuts and reforms and unleashing the American economy once again,” Mr. Trump said in a statement to The New York Times. “He is a rare talent, and I thank him for his dedicated service to the American people.”

Mr. Cohn is expected to leave in the coming weeks. He will join a string of recent departures by senior White House officials, including Mr. Trump’s communications director and a powerful staff secretary.

Yet the departure of Mr. Cohn, a free-trade oriented Democrat who fended off a number of nationalist-minded policies during his year in the Trump administration, could have a ripple effect on the president’s economic decisions and on the financial sector.

Even the mere threat, last August, that Mr. Cohn might leave sent the financial markets tumbling.

And his planned exit comes as the president is making a more aggressive return to the nationalist policies that helped sweep him into office as the 2018 midterm elections approach.

Mr. Trump’s announcement last week that he would levy tariffs on aluminum and steel imports was the most immediate catalyst for Mr. Cohn’s departure, according to people familiar with his thinking. Mr. Cohn, a longtime proponent of free trade, believed the decision could jeopardize economic growth.

The resignation also followed conversations Mr. Cohn held with the president in recent weeks about the possibility of replacing John F. Kelly as White House chief of staff, said people who were briefed on the matter. The president never formally offered Mr. Cohn the job, those people insisted, but Mr. Trump had discussions with him about whether he would be interested.

Trump Bracket Madness

March 13, 2018 9:00am by Barry Ritholtz

click for ginormous bracket

Source: Politico

Very amusing:

“Who is most likely to stay in Trump’s good graces until the bitter end? The level of turnover in the Trump White House has been enough to make human resources directors everywhere blanch. Trump says loyalty is one of the qualities he values most in his staff, yet he’s proved himself willing to cast aside staffers at a moment’s notice when necessary—just ask Michael Flynn, George Papadopoulos or Sam Nunberg.”

Trump is on the verge of a DOUBLE FIRING: Hours after dramatically terminating Rex Tillerson by Twitter he moves to oust embattled Veterans Affairs secretary to 'right the ship'
  • The president has floated firing VA Secretary David Shulkin after prolonged bad publicity about his tenure and bringing in Rick Perry, the energy secretary
  • Revelation comes hours after he fired Rex Tillerson as secretary of state by Twitter replacing him with CIA director Mike Pompeo
  • Concerns over Shulkin include ethics violations in connection with his trip to Europe with his wife last summer
  • Energy Secretary Rick Perry had lunch with the president on Monday in what could be a prelude to him replacing Shulkin
  • Rex Tillerson said it had been more than three hours between the announcement he was going and Trump speaking to him from Air Force One
  • Made no tribute to Trump and offered him no thanks as he said he was returning to private life
  • Gina Haspel becomes first ever women to be Director of the CIA after clandestine career and involvement in 'black sites'
  • Tillerson had disagreed with Trump on Iran and North Korea, the president said – but he had also been reported to have called the president a 'f***ing moron'
  • Trump's loss of faith in Shulkin was on display last week when the two men met in the Oval Office – and Trump called a 'Fox & Friends' host for his opinion on vets

What exactly does anyone think the White House is supposed to do to stop the spread of AIDS.
Is there a medical research lab hidden underground at 1600 PA Ave?
Go into the vault, get the existing antidote and distribute it.
