Just when you thought our Syria policy could not get any worse, last week it did. The US military twice attacked Syrian government forces from a military base it illegally occupies inside Syria. According to the Pentagon, the attacks on Syrian government-backed forces were “defensive” because the Syrian fighters were approaching a US self-declared “de-confliction” zone inside Syria. The Syrian forces were pursuing ISIS in the area, but the US attacked anyway.

The US is training yet another rebel group fighting from that base, located near the border of Iraq at al-Tanf, and it claims that Syrian government forces pose a threat to the US military presence there. But the Pentagon has forgotten one thing: it has no authority to be in Syria in the first place! Neither the US Congress nor the UN Security Council has authorized a US military presence inside Syria.

So what gives the Trump Administration the right to set up military bases on foreign soil without the permission of that government? Why are we violating the sovereignty of Syria and attacking its military as they are fighting ISIS? Why does Washington claim that its primary mission in Syria is to defeat ISIS while taking military actions that benefit ISIS?

U.S. aircraft shoots down a Syrian government jet over northern Syria, Pentagon says

A U.S. strike aircraft shot down a Syrian government fighter jet Sunday shortly after the Syrians bombed U.S.-backed fighters in northern Syria, the Pentagon said in a statement.

The Pentagon said the downing of the aircraft came hours after Syrian loyalist forces attacked U.S.-backed fighters, known as the Syrian Democratic Forces, in the village of Ja’Din, southwest of Raqqa. The rare attack was the first time a U.S. jet has shot down a manned hostile aircraft in more than a decade, and it signaled the United States’ sharply intensifying role in Syria’s war.

The incident is the fourth time within a month that the U.S. military has attacked pro-Syrian government forces.

A statement distributed by the Syrian military said that the aircraft’s lone pilot was killed in the attack and that the jet was carrying out a mission against the Islamic State.

Any 2 cents from trump supporters?

The reason?

It was too far from Israel for them [IDF] to provide ISIS air cover.

This is just another Libya type illegal war heating up.
If you have been paying attention they have been herding ISIS into Syria from Iraq.

I don't believe at this point Trump has any control over the War Department, willingly or unwillingly.

I am positive Trump's trip to the ME was at least partially to confirm whatever "plan" is going down.

Not to happy personally as my boy is in theater and about to change counties for a bit.

Basically its because the US State Department is staffed at the higher levels by folks who are politically minded. Ideally a Civil Service should be focused on whats good for their nation years in advance. They should have a good grounding in matters historical so as to be able to hold some ability at 'Predicting'.

So Civil Servants should be able to bend the political will towards whats in the 'National Interest'. Clearly if you allow political placements at the upper echelons of the civil service, you'll end up with foreign policy decisions that reflect the transient political mood of the moment.

Foreign policy is best left to professionals, not political hacks :)

Local CBS affiliate reported this action as the US shooting down a Syrian plane that was supporting ISIS.

Full 1984. Never go full 1984.
This goes to show how stupid they think we are. You can tell the people ANYTHING and they will believe it.

And the truth that no trump supporter wants to admit is that we are supporting radical militant terrorist "moderate" Muslim Islamic extremist in this fight that we have nothing to do with... Trump has been bought by Saudi Arabia.

Trump didn't get bought, it's just when he moved into the White House the bean counters showed him the real books and he had to decide whether it's best for America to continue the game or go the implosion route. Obama was bowing to them and Bush was holding their hands when Trump was still on TV firing Jose Canseco for not selling enough donuts in Time Square.

Saudi Arabia oil money owns Wall Street (not just Da Jew) and who wants to be the president that has millions of Americans 401K's go "poof" on his watch. Is that MAGA? Or is MAGA tweaking things he can tweak here at home while still playing the global monetary ponzi game which involves keeping certain countries very happy when it comes to official State Dept policy.

Obviously deals were struck decades ago ( they threw babies out of incubators) that are restructuring the Middle East and unfortunately the best Trump can probably do is delay or put on hold these plans. At the end of the day he is only the President .....and I'm too old to believe a POTUS is nothing more than upper management.

MAGA?

Trump is the commander in chief.

If we are protecting Isis then Trump is responsible. I'm sorry but Saudi interests are not too big to fail.

Russia vows to target US and coalition planes and drones west of the River Euphrates in Syria after American navy downs regime bomber
  • The US jet shot down the pro-Assad military plane on Sunday afternoon
  • Pentagon says it was in defense of US-backed Syrian rebels under regime attack
  • Russia said it will shoot down all coalition aircraft flying west of the Euphrates
  • The Syrian air force SU-22 was shot down by a Navy F/A 18E Super Hornet
  • A communications line between Washington and Moscow has been suspended
  • That line was intended to help avoid mid-air collisions in the area
  • Russia claims the US did not use the line prior to shooting down the SU-22

We have no business in the cess pool of the mid east, Im disgusted Trump is ramping up the presence, the elites will without a doubt start a new Vietnam to fatten their coffers, it's already an act in progress. I fear our only saving grace was Clinton not getting elected.

How much more time needs to go by before the masses of Americans wake up to this crap? Clinton admin, Bush admin, Obama admin, Trump admin, etc. all keep the wars moving along regardless of their policies and campaign promises. Isn't that odd? Its almost like these administrations don't really run the show at all? Hmmmm...

(Hint America: They dont. Other entities run the show)

Saw a news segment bringing the slant on the story. US led coalition shoots down Syrian Jet because it bombed Coalition partner forces. They mean it bombed terrorists or FSA backed by jackass McCain. Interesting how terrorists are morphed into coalition forces whenever they say. Started cussing at the TV. I wanted to share so I called CBS and left a comment, lots of cussing there too. Next morning called the Pentagon's comment line, told them we know what they are doing. Saying they are there to fight ISIS and wink and a nod drop a bomb on their real target anytime they think they can get away with it on Syrian Government forces. I hope the Pentagon calls me back so I can cuss at someone and not just a recording.

The Pilots over there should be disobeying orders.

The only way we are going to stop these endless wars is stop paying our taxes. We can't stop it by voting because they just lie to us.
Trump is a con man liar.

Very realistic viewpoint and most likely the closest to the truth. One guy at the top can't do squat if the entire structure is against him, even if he tried. Kennedy didn't have 90% of his political party against him, so they decided lead poisoning was the only answer to the changes he was trying to implement. With Trump they have a good 90% of his "own" party against him, 99% of media sources and 100% of the other branch of the Statist party. The real agenda comes out when they attack virtually everything he does or tries to do, with the exception of attacking Syria or increasing troops in Afghanistan. All activities in favor of the Israeli agenda are great and receive praise in the MSM. Where is code pink? Where is the challenge in Congress to the illegal war fighting and occupation in Syria? The UN? Libya part two.
Any activities that aren't extremely anti-Russian are attacked.

So call the real bosses whatever you want, they aren't in elected office, they control the elected officials using various means, directly or indirectly. They allow one or two true mavericks to buck the system because they really can't do anything alone. One thing we can be sure of, the real bosses still want Syria destroyed, they still want to occupy Afghanistan, they still want war with Iran, they still want Europe flooded with 3rd world trash, and they still want the US flooded with illegal immigrants. Even stranger they seem to want a major war with Russia.

American fighter jet shoots down armed Assad drone that was 'threatening' US troops - as tensions escalate days after Russia threatened to shoot back after F-18 shot down Syrian fighter jet
  • Drone was shot down north of At Tanf, just outside the de-confliction zone
  • One official said drone was shot down because it was 'assessed to be a threat'
  • It was an Iranian-made Shahed 129, thought to be armed in range of US troops
  • On Monday, an SU-22 operated by the Syrian regime was dropping bombs on the Syrian Democratic Forces when it was shot out of the sky by the U.S.
  • First time the U.S. has shot down a Syrian military aircraft, but fifth occasion it has targeted regime and pro-regime forces since Trump took office
  • Incident comes one day after a Russian Su-27 fighter jet armed with missiles 'came within five feet' of US reconnaissance plane over Baltic Sea
  • Kremlin has warned it would track US-led coalition aircraft in Syria as potential 'targets' and halted an incident-prevention hotline with Washington

We need to get the fu*k outta the middle east...........lock, stock and barrel. For what ever reason our elected leaders have placed us smack in the middle of some insane family dispute where we are playing both ends against the middle. It will not end well for us. We have nothing in common with any peoples in the middle east and should never have sided with any one in that hell hole.

You really have to ask why would any American leader even think about giving any thing what-so-ever to any country in that cess-pool when we have problems here? There is something drastically wrong with this.

The simplest explanation is they are all the enemy. No need to distinguish among them.
This makes no sense.

We have Saudi Arabia openly preaching and funding radical Islam and they have attacked us.

I'm not sure what Syria ever did to us.

Well said. Islam, Sunni or Shia, has been and always will be the world's enemy. Little said of the mayhem Islam is spreading in Africa, the Far East ( Phillipines, Malaysia, Indonesia) and every continent between.

Genesis 16:13, explained long ago what Islam is, was, and will be.

"He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers."

.....and that my friends sums up exactly what has happened since Ishmael was born. Mankind was warned about Islam centuries ago.

Yeah...sure. At least until there's a new enemy. I remember when Chinese communism was the great enemy, the Soviet bear was the great enemy once. Those nasty nazis, those vile empire building japs. There's always some enemy "over there" to justify our massive military spending and some reason to send our kids abroad to kill and die.

I think the USG is our enemy. Running around the globe being the puppet enforcement arm of the nasty cowards in the terror sponsor state of Israel. Murdering its own people in NYC to justify global warfare on a feeling. Now US forces are illegally occupying Syrian airspace and firing on Russian built Syrian aircraft. This is fukking stupid.

You have confirmed my suspicion that you are very young indeed. A product of today's education? Communism both Russian and Chinese was evil. Sonny boy, my mother lives today, half of her native born country was sent to the Soviet Gulags in Siberia and most died there. We did win that fight forty years later and without a war. My father fought the evil Nazis under Patton, liberated more than a few camps, and did save Europe and half the world from their murderous rule. I grew up playing in my neighbor's basement playing with his dad's war booty, swords, bayonets, guns....and heard his first hand stories of the Japs committing cannabilism on our POW's and captured fellow GIs in Saipan and Okinawa. Son, if you are unhappy with your lot in America today, look no further than the snowflakes of your current generation. Your generation is one without gratitude. I choose to follow my parents generation of real men and woman as a model. My mother and father's generation suffered and endured more hardship as children than you will ever see in your entire life and your children's lives. Be thankful you live in the greatest nation on Earth. I suggest you change your mindset, begin with an " attitude of gratitude", your life will change observing that rule.

lol Obviously you don't know shit about me.

...I'll add it to the list of things you plainly know nothing about.

One would think that if you're so old that you'd have gained some semblance of wisdom and be able to sort through propaganda a bit better, but instead you buy every silly boogie man story Washington spoon feeds you.

Yeah, I could become a warmongering holy rolling hypocrite like some others around here. Hey love thy neighbor right? Unless that MF speaks a different language or prays to a different invisible man in the sky...then murder that sack of shit with prejudice.

Well, if I remember right, they have valuable property highly desired by Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar (?), and Turkey. Is that not provocation enough?

In the mind of a bully, protecting your property or avoiding a fight is equal to an act of aggression against him.
